Good. This guy was way too influential for what he taught.
When looking for a new pastor, and ‘staff doesn’t know what that looks like’...you know you had problems, and you’re going to have more problems in the very near future.
I’ve always thought that a good leader would have some sort of a succession plan in place. He’s been there for 40 years; he doesn’t have anyone waiting in the wings?
Purpose driven life book was pure rubbish, I was at a bible study and the leader pulled that out and said we were going to be studying that. I pointed out the issues, and nobody wanted to listen because it was from the famous “pastor”, I just got up and left.
That's what happened to Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif. He turned his spectacularly successful ministry over to his kids and they ran it into the ground.

They should’ve taken notes from Joel Osteen....look what he has turned his dad, John Osteen’s, church into.
Not an Osteen fan, but just noting the different outcomes.
Yes....very strange that they don’t have a succession plan.
The elders should be the ones guiding and determining the succession plan not the minister or staff.
I’m sure he’ll be replaced by a liberal who will divert funds to causes of “justice” and drive the place into the ground after sucking it dry.
I believe there is an inversely proportional relationship in popularity between those that tell people what they want to hear, and those that tell people what they need to hear.
I had a Bible study group that went through the Purpose Drive series. I found it to be good. What about it did you find to be ‘rubbish’?
It sounds like he found a “Purpose Driven Life.”
Cynicism levels very high on this thread. Its almost like some FReepers were robbed at gun point by Rick Warren himself. I personally never met the man or attended his church, but I did read his books, and I had no problem with his message.
Coming to Christ is not an operations management function.
Its been several years since I read his book, so your response is not really helping clarify the beef with him as a pastor. I am not a member of a mega-church and I know some folks seem to think a mega-church implies a Jim and Tammy Faye Baker commercial aspect to ministry, but if you could be specific about what you dont care for in either Warren’s book or his person, that would be helpful to any conversation.
Absolutely.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!
“Purpose driven life book was pure rubbish...”
AMEN!
I read the whole book. GARBAGE!
Check into his bank accounts, bit coins, real estate holdings, portfolios, etc.
How many MILLIONS while kids all over the world are starving.
