Warnings in the PCA - Conservative Christians Are Dabbling in Marxism
https://ewerickson.substack.com/p/warnings-in-the-pca ^ | Erik Erickson

The (Nashville)statement appealed across Christian denominations and various Christian denominations passed resolutions to embrace the statement as compatible within their denominations. The Southern Baptist Convention and the Presbyterian Church in America declaired the statement, in the words of the PCA resolution, a “biblically faithful declaration.”

Within the PCA, however, a group of pastors has agitated against the statement and started an organization called Revoice that attempts to claim one can be a gay Christian and be defined as both gay and Christian, even while foregoing homosexual acts. Most troubling, Revoice drew from some professors at Covenant Theological Seminary, the PCA’s own church funded seminary.

Essentially, this group is trying to allow people to express an identity separate from being a Christ-follower so that one can be a gay Christ-follower and a straight Christ follower. It matters in the long run because what is a “gay Christian” that makes him different from a “Christian”?

It’s important to get that background because those identifiers come from something called “critical theory,” which has found a foothold within several PCA churches including some prominent ones like Scott Sauls’ church in the Nashville area. Sauls, by the way, was also opposed to the Nashville Statement.

So what is critical theory and why do you need to know about it?

Critical theory is derived from Marxist political thought. It has been wholly embraced by self-described Marxist groups like Black Lives Matter — a group whose founders not only explicitly call themselves Marxist, but is also a group that in its own words calls for undermining the two-parent household as “Western prescribed” instead of biblically ordained.

Tim Keller's most popular book was all about criticizing those knuckle-dragging folks out in flyover country based on what he heard from "refugees" who found love and acceptance in his big city church. Standards? We don't need no stinkin' standards.

Looks like the PCA, like many other denominations, is starting to go woke on many issues.

Erik Erickson (author) tried with all of his might to get a Marxist elected in 2016.

FUEE.

Someone who can be that wrong can never be trusted again to that right. I give you Ann Coulter and George Will as well.

Scott Saul's church has a reputation, at least among Nashville Catholics, of harboring a nasty streak of anti-Catholic bigotry, e.g., of being impossible to work with on pro-life issues because they refuse to work irenically with Catholics.

It's that particular church, too, not a "PCA thing". I got to be friends with the minister of the next nearest PCA church. He kindly tried to convert me, I kindly tried to convert him, neither succeeded, but it was all in good fun and friendship.

Not a trace of nastiness or bigotry from him toward this Catholic man; he was just a fine Christian gentleman. Unfortunately, he was forced out of the pastorate of his church. I don't know why.

Gay Christian?

Is that like a Christian serial adulterer?

Or a Christian extortionist?

Or a Christian prostitute?

Or a Christian drug dealer?

Or a Christian shoplifter?

Or a Christian liar?

Christians can learn a thing or two about self loathing from us Jews..... Throughout Jewish history there have always been self hating Jews who turned on their own people... The reason for this phenomenon is because Jews have always been persecuted..... So a certain percentage of them have this deep seated resentment of “why was I born Jewish and why do I have to deal with this persecution”..... They resent being Jewish and resent the sense of solidarity the Jewish people have...... Why am I bringing this up? Because Christianity is in decline in the Western world, and religious christians are being persecuted.... And the more this persecution continues, the more people who come from a Christian background will want to diassociate themselves from Christianity in order to escape this persecution..... The biggest Christian haters in America will not be people who practice other faiths, it will be the children and grandchildren of religious Christians....the Bible Belt needs to be aware of this

I do not see abortion as a place any one who claims Christ in their lives can not work together.

In fact, non-Christians may also hold such pro-life stances.

I applaud all who help.

Well some Christian believers are for sure, but I doubt seriously that the truly conservative ones are.

“Erik Erickson (author) tried with all of his might to get a Marxist elected in 2016.”

I am not familiar with that.

Which Marxist did Erickson try to get elected in 2016?

And he’s going to leave California. You know brilliant people can be stupid. Albert Einstein’s brain conceived the theory of relativity-—

and yet he was a LEFTIST, entranced by Marx’s baseless, indefinable abstractions of dialectical materialism.

How can such an intellect hold two completely opposing views of reality at the most profound levels?

A brilliant idiot.

Presbycast: Erick Erickson: Warnings in the PCA
PCA member, seminarian, and major conservative media figure Erick Erickson joins us to talk about why he wrote an article called "Warnings in the PCA". We discuss critical theory, intersectionality, racial reconciliation, and Marxist-influenced secular ideologies.

From a week or three ago. Worth the listen.
