But he believes the denomination — and the broader mainline Christian community — have failed to answer the call to fight for racial justice and address the church's inherent white supremacy.
In his book Dear Church: A Love Letter From a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the US, Duncan writes: "Jesus is Trayvon Martin, armed only with a bag of Skittles and an iced tea against an entire world that would rather hang him from a tree than love him. Until we see this, we are lost."

This self absorbed pompous ass has no idea about who Jesus was. For starters he was a Torah observant Jew; there is no way that he would have a tattoo, since the Torah forbids them. A disciple is to follow in the steps of his rebbe, his teacher. As a “Christian” identifying Jesus with Trayvon is an act of blasphemy. It’s absurd. The Fact is that NPR is indeed anti-God and anti-Christian at its core. That’s why they will never allow a real, bible based Christian to speak on their Plantation.

They accept homosexuality without repentance. According to 1 Thess 4:1-8, the ECLA has rejected God. Many churches call themselves 'Christian', but their definition of 'Christian' has nothing to do with Christ.
"Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. What did Christ actually warn .... Luke 12: in particular verse 51 ......
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
It was not the commerce, it was the fact that they were cheating the worshipers.
It worked like this, you would bring your sacrifice to the temple, say a lamb. It was the first born and free of defects so a suitable sacrifice. The priest who does the checking would find something wrong with it. They would ALWAYS find something wrong with it. Your offering has been rejected but you still need to make a sacrifice.
So you have to go to the guy selling already approved animals and buy one from him. But you can not buy it with regular money because it is not "holy". So first you have to go to the guy selling "temple coins" and buy those. Then you could go and buy your sacrifice. And at each step the mark up got bigger and bigger until it was a true financial burden to the worshipers.
When Jesus roared out that the temple had become a "den of thieves" He was not exaggerating or joking. The entire thing was a giant scam.
If they had been selling sacrifices at market value and the priest had not been disallowing valid sacrifices I think He would have been ok with it. Not everyone raised animals and some came a long way to the temple so it made sense to buy your sacrifice there rather then traveling a hundred miles with an unhappy lamb.

What the ELCA does is a lot different than what they say. Where have you been the last 10 years? You nee to do a little research and see what an apostate denomination they are.
I just saw that the Evangelical lutheran church of america allows for gay marriage. Ouch - so just like the Presbyterians and the Anglicans.

From what I've read (not comprehensive, so if you have additional information please do share the links) as in Neusner's "1st century Judaism in crisis" - he points out that the temple "merchants" were, besides animal sellers, coin changers -- you couldn't give donations in Roman coins, so you had to change it to shekels (without any graven images).
What country do you reside? I am plenty tired of global trouble makers pretending they walk on water!!!! There is NO place in the whole of the WORD that sets any race as supreme... or ‘church’... but, Christ did warn of the many coming in His name that were deceivers. Might need to do a bit of self introspection before taking the time to ‘judge’ the many!!!!
