The Rodney Howard Browne Test...
04-05-20 | Bill Randles

Posted on 04/06/2020 3:15:17 PM PDT by pastorbillrandles

As our readers know, I have written quite a bit about a certain Pastor/Evangelist named Rodney Howard Browne. I have articles < a HREF="https://billrandles.wordpress.com/2020/03/31/corona-rodney-howard-browne-and-jeremiah/">Here, and here and as well I wrote a Book called “Weighed And Found Wanting;putting the Toronto Blessing in Context” which discusses Howard Browne’s Theology. I regard him as a mystic, a gnostic and a dangerous heretic.

Howard Browne induces thousands of people into states of “Spiritual Drunkenness”, trances, and other mystical states to varying degree. He calls himself “God’s Bartender”, and boasts of hosting Revivals at “Joel’s Place”, which is a pun off of the Book of the Prophet Joel’s reference to “new Wine”.

RHB has been in the news lately, making quite a stir, for being arrested in Florida for having church services during the Quarantine. He publicly announced previously that He would be having church, regardless of the order, and was quoted as saying “Quarantine is for Pansies”.

Browne was arrested, then released.

Browne then made a public statement, saying “I did all of that for the Constitution”. Our US Constitution guarantees the right of Freedom of Religion. Congress can neither promote a particular sect or infringe upon any Religion.

Suddenly RHB is widely acknowledged and celebrated for having the courage of his convictions and for being willing to go to Jail for the constitution.

I have to admit , in this instance, He is right. He said something to the effect that for Governors and Mayors to ban public worship as “unessential” , while Walmart and Planned Parenthood remain open for business, is an affront to God, and to the church. I couldn’t have agreed more. There are a lot of aspects to this plague, but I am convinced that silencing the church is one of them.

I listened to his whole statement, which lasted about an hour, and on many , many points I found myself agreeing with him, and even admiring his willingness to follow his convictions, even to being arrested, mug-shot and put in Jail. Howard Browne is an engaging communicator, and has a sense of humor, and an infectious optimism.

But I couldn’t dismiss what I know of RHB and his ‘ministry’. There should not be any overlooking of the damage He has done to so many people’s faith, the reproach brought upon the church, and the utter destruction wrought through mystical revivals such as Toronto and Pensacola, for years and years! This is not to mention the utter heresy which he has promoted, along with his friends,Kenneth Copeland, and Kenneth Hagin.

What I fear is that so many will be tempted to be enamored by the boldness, an admirably courageous willingness of RHB to pay the price for the principle of religious liberty, that they will accept his heretical brand of Christianity.

Jesus warned us of false “Christs” in the Last days, who would arise and gain followings. Notice, the warning is of “Christs”, not Jesus. The word “Christ” means “Anointed One”. Browne and his ilk, always refer to their brand of ministry as “anointings”, and that they are bringing a new kind of “Anointing” to revive the church. RHB doesn’t claim to be Jesus, or even Jesus Christ, but he does claim a “New Anointing”.

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. ( Matthew 24:23-25)

pastorbillrandles I have never heard of the guy. All I known is I don’t see him as the kind that craves seeing his name and pontificating every day on FR.

Why do you think it is acceptable to come on a public forum and bash your brother in Christ? If you disagree with him, then go to him and tell him his faults. If he listens to you, then you will have gained a brother...

Well, the Pastor DID keep his church open despite all the city orders to close it.

That SEEMS to me to have some disregard for the authority. Didn't Jesus say to "render unto Caesar..." and wouldn't that INCLUDE orders to shut down in the face of a pandemic?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

From the net:
Howard-Browne has a long career as a publicity-savvy religious entrepreneur. Born in South Africa, he and his wife emigrated to the United States in the mid-1990s and founded a nondenominational church and a separate evangelistic ministry. Howard-Brown’s spiritual specialty is “holy laughter,” a charismatic practice that consists of spontaneous laughter during worship services. Howard-Browne’s controversial promotion of the practice quickly made him a celebrity in charismatic Christian circles. In 1999, he rented out Madison Square Garden for a revival he said was inspired by a dream in which he was visited by Billy Graham (who at the time was still very much alive).

"Holy laughter"? Does he laugh all the way to the bank? Excuse the pun...or rather 2/3 of a pun...PU.

How dare anybody have the audacity to interpret scripture differently from you! I also remember reading Ephesians 5:18 and thinking the Holy Spirit is a much better substance than wine. No hangover or anything.

I don't agree with you. How do you KNOW that he will react that way?
He may PRETEND to listen and pretend to agree with you.
He may get VERY annoyed and call you a jerk.
I may think he's a JERK of the first degree and simply avoid him. So why would I bother to listen to someone I think is a JERK?

The responses are almost ENDLESS.

Besides, I don't call someone "brother" here on FR since I don't really know ANYONE here. That's silly too, calling someone I don't know "brother."
