Pope Offers Halal Meal on Third Day of the Poor

Backlash after Vatican modifies cuisine for Muslims

Pope Francis' annual meal with the poor in St. Peter's Basilica took place again last month, gathering 1,500 people in the Paul VI Hall during celebrations marking the Third Day of the Poor. For the first time since the Sunday lunch with the poor was established in 2016, a meal observant of other religious restrictions was served: The menu offered a bolognese lasagna without pork (an essential ingredient in the centuries-old recipe). Wine was absent from the table as well.

The adjustment was announced by Msgr. Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization: "There's no pork in here, so all guests can eat with no problems." According to newspaper Il Giornale, this was a "precise choice desired by Pope Francis."

A Nod to Muslims

The Pope's inspiration was his Italian counterpart Cdl. Matteo Maria Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna, who last October, on the feast of St. Petronius, patron saint of Bologna, made headlines for the archdiocese's choice to offer the public a Muslim-friendly version of tortellini, a traditional bolognese pasta filled with raw prosciutto, mortadella (a pork-based bolognese luncheon meat) and pork loin. As an alternative to the classic recipe, the archdiocese offered a chicken breast filling option, an unheard-of modification.

Apologies to all the Catholics here, but your Pope needs to be thrown off the roof of a cathedral.

OK, the 14 minute homily i’m good with.

THIS is insane.

The homilies were 10 to 15 minutes 40 years ago when I went to mass and haven’t varied much at all.

Different priests = different times (and different stimulation. Some are just better at it than others)

THIS is different.

He HITS at we REAL Catholics and bows to everyone else.

He CANNOT believe in the resurrection if he is a true communist.

And I believe he is.

I went to bat for him for a LONG TIME on this site.

He just went WAY over the line too many times.

It is the goal of Islam to rid the world of Christianity. So what do Christians do? Be politically correct and help them. Go figure!

not the most inspiring pontiff, either, imho.
JP2 was very pastoral, caring, inspiring to faith
Benedict was very different but his theological expertise and studious nature was inspiring imho

this one...duh

The “globalists” have clearly chosen the religion that suits their goals the best.

It would seem that Christians are the only ones who are still resisting...

Within the Catholic religion...there needs to be more resistance for sure. Don’t Latinos mostyly follow the Catholic faith? Maybe a resistance is in order...

You know the line “Is the Pope a Catholic?” and of course the answer WAS yes.

I’m not Catholic but seems like the Pope has forgotten who he represents.

On a British art history show, they showed an Italian renaissance painting of a pope with his two grandsons, one of whom he made a cardinal while the kid was in his teens.

This pope is worse.

You know the line “Is the Pope a Catholic?”

Followed by, "Do the bears s*** in the woods?

I'd reverse that now. The bears are definitely more Catholic than the pope. And the pope is definitely s****ing on the church

The Catholic Encyclopedia in 1913 said:
The pope himself, if notoriously guilty of heresy, would cease to be pope because he would cease to be a member of the Church.

I am of the opinion that Halal meat has been sacrificed to a pagan god. As such, I will not eat it if I know that it is halal.
