Correcting a common misunderstanding of the Christmas season
We all have our pet peeves, right? We all have those little things that seem to bother us more than they should. Well, I hope you'll forgive me if this seems petty, but one of my pet peeves involves the "Wise Men" (or "3 Kings" or "Magi") who are almost always included in nativity scenes and plays that show up each Christmas as depictions of Jesus' birth.
Why do Wise Men bother me? It's not a personal thing. I have nothing against the Magi as individuals, I'm sure. It's just that they weren't actually present on the night when Jesus was born. In fact, they didn't hit the scene until a long time later.
Let's go to the text to see what I mean.

Then this afternoon I received in the mail a children's book about amazing facts and photos in the Bible. There they were in a photo. . .the three wise men at the manger. I decided to contact the publisher and the customer service representative indicated that he was going to forward my concern to their editorial board.
We all know it's not just one book. . .not one publisher.
We three kings of Orient are...Come on, everybody sing.
What is your point?
As we walked, we smoked a cigar.
Why not grab yourself an eggnog with a shot of Jameson, and enjoy the season.

I see you left your Italians on. Was the entire article in Italian?
You’re smart. Keep letting people know.

Obviously, you wanted this to remain a myth.
I feel the same...it is not biblically correct...therefore, I do not include the Wise Men in my manger...just a personal thing with me too.
Not wise enough to post the entire article while she had the chance. The wise men would have known to post the entire thing, in their wisdom, as they were wise.
I won't argue with anyone who doesn't, but I put them there, knowing they didn't show up for at least a year afterward.
OTOH, in the Western church's liturgical calendar, the first 30 years or so of Jesus' life are covered in 12 days (His baptism and Epiphany occur on Jan 6), so in terms of the church year the Magi show up around Boxing Day anyway...
There are historic errors which have developed over time.
For example, haven’t we all heard that Jesus was not really born on December 25th? Yet we all celebrate then.
I’ve also heard our calendar is wrong. I’ve heard historians believe Jesus was born somewhere between 4 BC and 6 BC. But this gets back to the fact that we really don’t know the exact date of Christ’s birth, or year.

There was a magi convention in Bethlehem that weekend! Prove me wrong but post it here!
Italics
I don’t include in my manger because I have a small yard and already have Baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, Cow and Camel.
It’s in every Christmas hymn, book, story, movie, TV show etc I’ve ever seen, since 1949.
I read somewhere that they were from Persia. I guess being East of Israel qualifies as the Orient. They were probably astrologers.
Oh, none of them would have been from Sub-Saharan Africa. Probably were not gay either.
The cathedral in Cologne has the bodies of the Three Kings; theyve been there since the twelfth century.
