They have to be real. Brian Williams interviewed them right after they were kicked out of the Garden.

My take is that there is a good chance that they were symbolic, but I lean toward them being real people.

When you research the Jewish history, you find that when the Jewish people were held captive in Babylon for 100 years around 600BC, they had lots of free time on their hands.

Jewish history says that this is when much of the four books of the Bible were first written down.
Before that, they were stories passed down from generation to generation.

I used agree with the common idea that Moses wrote the first 4 books but the FIRST time they were actually written in a modern language and SAVED in one place was in Babylon in 600BC

Here’s a shocker: perhaps the Bible means what it says.

Adam and Eve sound a bit Anglosised for an accurate representation. As are Joseph, Mary, Luke, Mark, etc...... Such names did not exist among those during the time or place.

Genesis 4 New International Version (NIV)
Cain and Abel

4 Adam[a] made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b] She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[c] a man.” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

5 This is the written account of Adam’s family line.

When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[a] when they were created.

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

Some believe the fruit was fig because of the references to fig leaves and Jesus destruction of fig tree in final week before the cross.

It can be fun and sometimes helpful to argue about the meanings of names and events.

However, if folks don’t reckon Adam and Eve as actual real human people, regardless what translated names you want to give them, then these people apparently don’t believe the Gospel.

Luke lists ALL the generations of the bloodline from Adam to Christ.

If Christ’s buddy Luke had meant to be allegorical in an way, then he is really bad at it.

“We all know that..”

That’s Hell Speak. Translated it means: The following is authored by Satan.

“Eve ate the apple..” bad scholarship right there. It was the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Nowhere in the Bible does it say Apple.

And yes they were real and etc. in Adams fall we sinned all. Jesus refers to them as real people, as does the rest of the totality of scripture.

First, answer definitively these questions:

When was the alphabet and system of writing developed? All at once, or did writing evolve over many generations?
Who wrote the book of Genesis, and when?

It’s commonly held that the first 5 books may have been written by Moses.

There is a stylistic confusion in the Old Testament, in which individual names are sometimes confused with tribes. And it gets worse because the name might refer to the current tribal leader, or the founding or greatest leader of that tribe no longer alive.

Sometimes the context makes it clear, but far too often it isn’t. The name Adam is even worse, because it is also used as a synonym for “mankind”. Likewise, in Hebraic tradition, there are other Adams, such as Adam Kadmon, which is the first spiritual World that came into being after the contraction of God’s infinite light. Adam Kadmon is not the same as the physical Adam Ha-Rishon.

Adam Kadmon is divine light without vessels, i.e., pure potential. In the human psyche, Adam Kadmon corresponds to the yechidah, the collective essence of the soul.

A personal thought

The Bible gives the genealogy of Jesus from Adam.

If Adam is a myth then Jesus must also be a mith.

Jesus is real, so wes Adam

You know why Adam was created before Eve?

God figured He didn’t need the advice.

Logic and physics are needed to understand Adam and Eve.

Yes, Adam and Eve were real, since God made them either out of dust or out of sharks. Catholics know where their graves are. Cool stuff.

No, the Bible is not the answer key for scientific conclusions, since the Bible lacks equations.

There are four ways to interpret God’s Word and science works with motion.

Peter Abelard clarified all this in 1100 in Paris.

Two good books worth reviewing:

Modern Physics and Ancient Faith (2003) by Stephen M Barr

The Genesis Enigma: Why the First Book of the Bible Is Scientifically Accurate Paperback (2010) by Andrew Parker
