The battle for Vienna is the reason we have Vienna Roast coffee. The Saracens laid siege to Vienna but could not take it. They fled, leaving behind their bags of coffee. Not knowing how to preserve all that coffee, The Viennese roasted it, and thus Vienna Roast coffee was born.

Thank you for your reminder that there is no place for militaristic and aggressive Islam amongst civilized people.

A forgotten French hero, Charles Martel (”The Hammer”) also rescued Western Europe when his army turned back a Moorish one out of Spain at the Battle of Tours on October 12, 732.

I just watched El Cid last night. It depicts another period of Christian vs Muslim conflict. It’s available for free on Youtube.

Note the date: The battle, a chaotic, bloody affair, began on
September 11, 1683
and also this:
There is an interesting cultural footnote to all of this. Most people do not know that J.R.R. Tolkien's famous Battle of Pelennor Fields, the struggle for the city of Minas Tirith between the soldiers of Gondor and the forces of the Dark Lord Sauron recounted in The Return of the King, is actually based on the charge of King Jan Sobieski and his Winged Hussars.

The Islamic invasion in Western Europe was crushed by Charles Martel and his Frankish army in October 732 thus saving France. Sadly the covert Muslim invasion in the 21st century may be succeeding.

There is a group that wants to put a statue of John Sobieski in Vienna. The mayor of Vienna has refused afraid it will offend the Muzzies. The statue is being displayed in a Polish city waiting to be transported to Vienna.

Yes, defenders of the West and Christianity! We need a return to strong defenders of both. We have way too many namby-pamby Westerners and pablum Christians .

“Day of the Siege” is a great movie about this historical event.
