If I had to live in Europe, Switzerland would probably be my first choice.

Thank you for that post. The difference between the USA and all of Europe lies in a simple phrase: “It is forbidden.” (For now) the operative phrase on the USA is “It can be done.”
And note that the phrase here is NOT, “It is allowed.” The difference is more profound than that.
The Gramscian marxists among us now and for the last 100 years have tried to change that.
The power of the state derives from the people.
It's a nice theory but it doesn't really work that way, hardly anywhere, including the USA these days.
What we've seen in the Trump era is that even when the citizens elect new leaders they are tortured to the point of impotence by the State and it's deep actors.
On a practical level the State controls us all the time: people don't do things that they otherwise might because of fear of the State, or if they are fearless the State may have arrested and incarcerated them and they are living in prison.
Sometimes it’s good to depart from the established rules. This rule, government control of children’s minds, is one such rule from which departure is required.
