Sounds like this guy wanted a gig working one day a week and figured he could come up with something to pass off as words of wisdom.

My Dad is a Southern Baptist deacon and back in the 1980’s there was an ordination service at our church for a young pastor who was the son of another deacon. We always went on vacation between Christmas and New Years out of town and they scheduled this ordination that week. Turns out the young pastor being ordained was asked a questions similar to those you posed this pastor and he gave a similar response.

He was ordained by those present, but the comment was made by many in the congregation, had my Dad and another deacon who was out with the flu when that service occurred that this young man would have been sent packing and his father would have probably left the church because his son was not ordained. Last I heard this pastor had become a tickle your ear, prosperity preacher in Texas. I asked my Dad and this other deacon and both said, absolutely there would have been objections by both of them. They were both very disappointed in the other deacons and the pastor of the church who allowed this to slide so as to not hurt the feelings of one of the deacons.

Our family eventually felt led to another church which is thriving, it’s Bible based and it’s main emphasis is seeing souls saved and not living by mans dogma but the Bible. We get no ear tickling, or prosperity preaching. When you walk in whether visitor or long time member you get greeted by numerous members and welcomed and you find out the pastor is not a liberal.

We had a lady from the Ukraine visit with another lady one Sunday evening a month or so ago and she was welcomed and greeted but when the pastor started preaching she covered her ears at some points, she was not used to the Southern Baptist service and was not used to non-liberal doctrine. She told the pastor upon leaving as he was shaking hands she didn’t like his preaching, he was too loud at times and wrong. He said ma’am I preach what God leads me to preach and I preach from the Bible, It may offended you but I cannot go against God and the Bible. She’s not been back...
