Please pray for pax_et_bonum's Aunt Peggy.

She’s like a mother to me.

She had a heart attack and is in icu.

Doctor gives her a 50-50 chance of survival.

I'm very upset. Not ready to lose her.

Thanks for the update. Kicking up the prayers a notch. That her heart Wii be totally restored so she won’t need a pump or a transplant. All things are possible with God. He knows every fiber of her being. He created the entire universe out of nothing. He just spoke it into existence. Restoring Aunt Peggy’s heart would be child’s play. Right now I speak healing over Aunt Peggy and declare she is healed by the stripes Christ suffered and by the blood He shed on The Cross. In the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Shalom and Amen.

I was traveling recently, changing radio channels, and ended up listening to a program on NPR (I never listen to NPR) and they had a very good program on discussing heart pump surgery. It was very informative.

The heart surgery Mick Jagger recently had was heart pump surgery. He was back doing his act within just a few days.

my mom had bypass surgery at age 80: when I questioned the doctor why that was an option at her age, he said because she was biologically younger than her actual age. She lived another ten years, drove her car until she was 85, and died of cancer at age 89.

But I would not do a transplant at that age, mainly because there aren't enough hearts to go around and I think hearts should go to younger people (sorry, Dick Cheney: No, I wouldn't have advised him to get a heart transplant either).
However, I don't know enough about heart pumps to have an opinion on that decision.

One problem with using “extraordinary” medical treatment on the aging is what we docs call “co morbidity”: other medical problems. So you fix the heart, and they have a stroke. You put them on dialysis and they have a heart attack or lose their leg from poor circulation and an infection, or like my mom, die of cancer.
