So the Catholics took out the commandment about "images" and added one to the covet list?

Interesting.

Yes, they split ‘covet’ in half to make a commandment to replace graven images.

The Spectator: “Is the Pope a Catholic? You have to wonder.”

Yeah, now that used-to-be-obvious answer isn’t so obvious any more. It is the rough equivalent of the discovery that all bears are actually permanently constipated, and don’t - after all - $hit in the woods.

Let's make this easy and go straight to the source:

From Exodus 20. Translation: NASB

1Then God spoke all these words, saying,

2“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

3“You shall have no other gods before Me.

4“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5“You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

7“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

8“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9“Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

12“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

13“You shall not murder.

14“You shall not commit adultery.

15“You shall not steal.

16“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

That’s seventeen.

What was on the tablet Moses dropped and broke?

Let’s go right to the source.

The missing Five Commandments were discovered
in the Qumran caves and translated as below:

11. Thou shouldst pick thine own cotton.
12. Confuse thou not the Apostles with the Epistles.
13. Remember thy coming of age to keep it weird.
14. Covet not thy neighbor’s ass.
15. Do not believeth everything thou readest.

I count 10. There are 17 verses involved...but only ten commandments.

I don't think Bergoglio is gay, but I think he surrounds himself with homosexuals because he knows they are morally compromised and he can effectively blackmail them.

Spectator asks the wrong question in regards to the “Francis papacy”.

The correct question is

“Is it possible for a non-Catholic to be Pope?

I think there is virtually no chance that Bergoglio will say, "Mea culpa" and resign, and I have added “virtually” only because there's a theoretical chance that anything could happen. It is obvious that he does not believe in the Catholic faith — at all. When he deigns to speak about theology, what he says is distinctly Lutheran in flavor, in that he emphasizes the futility of man's prayers and actions. He clearly has a personality disorder, i.e., narcissism, without ANY compensating positives. (Donald Trump is narcissistic, but he also is generous.) He is also spiteful and vindictive. Finally, in addition to not believing in the Catholic faith, he appears to HATE the Church, to want to destroy it — as he is rumored to have joked early in his Pontificate that he would — as he obviously seems to wish to destroy Europe by abetting the Islamic invasion of Europe.

I posit that it would take a true miracle for Bergoglio to resign. Do I believe in Miracles? Of course I do. However, I also believe that 99% of the time, God works via the Holy Spirit's nudging us and allowing our Free Will to act, well, freely. And I have ZERO hope that Bergoglio will exercise his Free Will for the good of the Church. Hope I'm wrong...but I don't think I am.

Lets play the game a little differently. Here’s the beginning of Exodus 20, from a translation to which no sane Catholic will object (Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition):

And the Lord spoke all these words:
2 I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.
8 Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works.
10 But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be longlived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house: neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.

And here are the same verses, from a translation to which no sane Protestant will object (King James Version):

And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Nobody took anything out of the commandments. Some people have trouble remembering V.16, though …

Clowns in America have had a hand in the direction of the Papacy since about the time of stopping the Communists from taking over Italy, and by extension the Vatican.

No, let’s leave the goalposts where they are.

Why is ‘graven images’ removed from the ten commandments?
