40 DAYS FOR LIFE: MAR. 6 – APR. 14

The word you are looking for is “monster”

March 5, 2019

40 Days for Life starts in 377 cities this week, and sadly it begins in uncharted waters in the United States of America.

Not because of what is being said by fringe abortion advocates yelling in the street, but because of what is being supported by elected governors and senators.

These governors and senators are kind, tolerant and well-dressed. They are smooth talkers and they want you, as an American, to know that even though they are highly sophisticated, they are tender enough to make sure a newborn baby is comfortable before they let the child die on a table after a failed abortion.

Yes, you read that right. They promise that any newborn child born from a failed abortion will be comfortable before making sure the child doesn’t even make it through her first hour of life.

You are probably asking the same question I have asked myself: What kind of a person could stare at a newborn baby girl on a table crying and not give her medical treatment?

Many answers have been given, but all the proposed answers miss the severity of the reality of what happens when an abortion fails.

The baby was supposed to be killed and is now alive. He or she is on the table, moving, crying, looking around. I have seen my seven children come into the world; the last thing any halfway sane person who is looking at the baby is thinking is “Let’s NOT give her what she needs.” But, then again, my wife and I usually just have my sweet mother-in-law in the delivery room and not Virginia Gov. Northam.

This is the scene. We are all standing around looking at the baby girl on the table. What the governors and senators are saying is at that beautiful moment of humanity, they are numb to that baby girl. They have no problem getting her comfortable and killing her.

So, what kind of a person supports this? The word you’re looking for is “monster.”

Only a monster would let a baby die on a table. The sickness behind this barbaric and ruthless act cannot be legitimized or labeled as an acceptable “political viewpoint.” It is cold-blooded murder done to our most innocent. I wouldn’t trust these politicians to watch my dogs (although they would probably never let a puppy die on the table).

We too often look down on other cultures who dehumanize a segment of the population, but look at what we have become in the United States with abortion. We have a large segment of elected officials who would refuse a baby medical care after birth. Monsters indeed — who the hell do we think we are?

It was Flannery O’Connor who said, “In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber.”

Those who live amidst the injustice are often the numbest to the gravity of it. Yet, this wave of infanticide comes at a time when there is more momentum in the pro-life movement than ever before. And I think the monsters are helping wake up many who didn’t realize what is legal in America.

Though angry and frustrated at this situation, our response must be one of courage, love, and fortitude. That is the only way to defeat such evil.

Abortion facilities have closed at a record pace the last six years, and the abortion industry’s response is to push abortion up to birth and allow any survivor to die on a table. This is not a time to be discouraged in the face of such desperation; this is a time to act. So many people think their voice doesn’t matter or that they can’t make a difference. I am here to tell you that is far from the truth. I know because I have seen the impact of simply showing up and praying.

To date, we have saved more than 15,000 lives. And 186 abortion workers have quit their jobs. One of them is being featured in a major motion picture, Unplanned, opening March 29.

Do not throw your hands in the air or curse at your television. Let this barbaric mentality motivate you to offer hope, healing, and medical alternatives to women where you live. That is what is ending abortion at the local level.

More than 800,000 people have participated in 40 Days for Life around the world and now they have more motivation than ever before to pray, fast, and stand vigil for an end to abortion.

Will you join them?

Scripture and Prayer

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14

Heavenly Father, we cry out for Your mercy and ask You to remove the scourge of abortion from our land. Use us as your vessels, Lord, to bring the light of Your truth to our nation once again.

DAY 11: Meet baby Gabriel

March 16, 2019

Baby Gabriel is fighting for his life.

“He has four major issues we’re watching pretty closely,” said his parents Mike and Amanda, who are long-time 40 Days for Life volunteers. “Issues with his intestines, brain bleed, lung problems, and a hole in his heart.”

But today is Gabriel’s one-month birthday.

Born just shy of 25 weeks at less than a pound and half, this beautiful little boy is a living miracle and he’s alive today because his parents fought for him.

Amanda even risked her own life–doctors didn’t expect her to pull through either–to give her son a chance. “Despite the fear, we made our wishes clear: there would be no direct abortion of our child,” she said. They were blessed with doctors who supported them fully.

Mike and Amanda had another decision to make: did they want to resuscitate their son if he were born before 25 weeks?

“Our baby deserved to be loved regardless of any possible brain damage [resulting from his preterm birth],” they decided. “He deserved to have Christmases and birthdays and…to know that we loved him and fought for him. We both knew that there was no way we could face our other children and tell them we didn’t do everything we could for their little brother.

Mike and Amanda were so kind as to share a very special moment–Gabriel’s first time seeing his mommy and daddy. Watch the video in the player above, or click here: https://youtu.be/iqub029xLk0

Abortion supporters have spent the last two months justifying late-term abortion and infanticide by (falsely) claiming it’s only used for “non-viable fetuses.”

The next time you encounter that sort of dehumanizing rhetoric, remember these cynical politicians are really talking about children just like this beautiful little boy–no less precious because he has eight separate IVs plugged into his body.

That sacred moment of Gabriel opening his eyes to meet his parents for the very first time is why we stand on street corners through ice storms, heat waves, and persecution. And if you’re ever tempted to count the cost, take one more look at that video and remember that every sacrifice is worth it.

Baby Gabriel’s parents and doctors fought for him. Will you fight for the babies who don’t have anyone to fight for them?

40 Days for Life is a family, and families stick together in times of need.

Mike and Amanda credit prayer for powering them through their bleakest hour. So please pray for Baby Gabriel, for Mike and Amanda, and for their entire family.

I beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness, and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love. — Ephesians 4:1b-2

Dear Heavenly Father, we are humbled that you have called us and appointed us to be ambassadors of Christ in a world that is not our home. We pray that your Holy Spirit will empower us to walk worthy of the calling. We pray that Your unconditional love will flow through us to those who desperately need Your saving grace.

DAY 12: Who Planned Parenthood fears most

March 17, 2019

Nothing terrifies the abortion industry more than an abortion survivor.

Every survivor forces society to confront the fact that every aborted child is just as human as you and me.

Perhaps that explains the push to legalize infanticide–especially for children who survive failed abortions. It’s easier to just kill an abortion survivor than to reconcile her existence with support for abortion.

“Set them aside and make them comfortable.” That’s been the refrain from abortion fanatics holding elected office. It almost makes cold-blooded murder sound compassionate.

Melissa Ohden knows better. She was set aside, left to die of neglect following her mother’s forced-but-failed abortion.

A nurse with a conscience saved her life. Today Melissa’s alive and well and joined this week’s episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast to share her story and discuss how she’s given a voice to abortion survivors everywhere.

Click here to listen to Melissa’s incredible story: https://40daysforlife.com/2019/03/12/the-abortion-industrys-push-to-legalize-infanticide-with-abortion-survivor-melissa-ohden-podcast-season-4-episode-11/

And, in case you missed them, check out these podcasts highlighting the abortion industry’s late-term abortion and infanticide push:

Virginia Beach, Virginia

The woman entering Planned Parenthood already had two abortions. This one would be number three. “She just wanted ‘that thing out of her,'” said Dawn in Virginia. “This woman needs lots of prayers.”

An encounter earlier this week with another woman left on a more hopeful–but still uncertain–note. Cheri, who operates a mobile pregnancy center in Virginia Beach, persuaded an abortion-bound woman to get a free ultrasound before she makes her decision.

Pray that she makes the right choice!

Zagreb, Croatia

Nearly EVERY city in Croatia is holding a 40 Days for Life campaign!

The Zagreb campaign team prays in front of the Sisters of Mercy Hospital–around the clock. A group of pro-life men known as “Night Watch” keeps the vigil unbroken until daybreak.

My power is made perfect in weakness. —2 Corinthians 12:9

Lord, during these forty days, we ask that with each day of this sacred vigil, everything in us that separates us from your perfect will would be pruned from our hearts and souls. In this blessed freedom may we experience a powerful anointing of your Holy Spirit.

DAY 13: God, paper, scissors

March 18, 2019

PROGRAMMING NOTE: I’ll appear on EWTN’s At Home with Jim and Joy TODAY to discuss the current 40 Days for Life campaign and the March 29 release of Unplanned.

The show airs at 1 pm Eastern/Noon Central/11 am Mountain/10 am Pacific. Want to call in? Dial 1-800-221-9460!

Today we know of 91 babies saved from abortion by YOUR prayers since March 6…

…and the fate of one of those children was left to chance.

“One couple stood out,” said Tina, who volunteers for the 40 Days for Life campaign in Forest Park, Georgia. “They were playing ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors.’

“They must have made an agreement that if one of them won, they should go in [for an abortion],” Tina continued. “But if the other person won, they would walk away. It was apparent that one of the two wasn’t happy with the results because they played the game repeatedly.

Finally, the couple walked over to the local pregnancy center. But it was closed!

“Praying all the way, I approached them and asked if they wanted to speak with someone inside the pregnancy clinic,” Tina said.

They did.

Tina had the pregnancy center director’s phone number in her cell phone. She called, and the director opened the center to welcome this couple inside.

“I returned to the sidewalk to continue praying,” Tina said. “Please keep this young couple in your prayers.”

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When a young woman exited a busy Philadelphia abortion center, vigil participants were sure she had the abortion. They handed her a brochure that would direct her to the resources she’d need to find support, healing, and recovery.

“She read it…looked at them [and] in a quiet voice, she said, ‘I changed my mind,’” said Monique, who leads the Philly faithful.

“She has been suffering with nausea and vomiting,” Monique reported. “They informed her of all the phone numbers she could call to address her needs and assured her that HELP IS AVAILABLE!”

Near the end of a four-hour prayer shift, a young woman approached a volunteer named Joe and his fellow prayer warriors.

“Can you help me?” she asked. “I was going to have an abortion but I changed my mind.”

Joe and his crew were more than happy to direct the young mom to the resources she needed to choose life. Before she left, she hugged each of the men who helped her.

Little Rock, Arkansas

“Praise the Lord! We have a CONFIRMED baby save this morning!” said Toni in Little Rock. “Parents came out of the clinic and told the sidewalk helpers that they changed their minds.”

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. —Psalm 68:5

Heavenly Father, we thank you for caring about each of us so deeply. Help us to see and know you as our Father in heaven each and every day of our lives. Your loving hand also rests on every child today carried in its mother’s womb. May they be born into this world and come to know fully and personally your endless love.

DAY 16: The 12-year save

March 21, 2019

Programming Note: Tomorrow, I’ll be on the Glenn Beck Radio Program at 11:30 Eastern/10:30 Central/9:30 Mountain/8:30 Pacific. Click here to find your local station.

Sometimes God answers our prayers quickly and dramatically…

…but more often He’s content to let us wait a little bit. As the Lord reminds us, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

The 40 Days for Life campaign in Green Bay, Wisconsin is located at an abortion referral center where dramatic stories of last-second saved babies are a little tougher to come by.

“At about 9:55 pm…we noticed an individual struggling to climb over a snow bank,” said Thom in Green Bay. (This is already the most Wisconsin 40 Days for Life story ever.)

“At first, we didn’t know what to make of this individual…cigarette in one hand and some kind of object in the other.”

Upon scaling the snowbank, a young woman shared her story. “I made a bad decision 12 years ago. I was going to terminate,” she said. “But then I saw people quietly walking on the sidewalk like you two are tonight and I didn’t go through with it!

She now has a “wonderful” 12-year-old son. “I have never regretted the decision to bring this beautiful life into the world!” she continued. “It’s cold out here tonight, and I know you take a lot of flack. So I wanted to come and tell you that what you are doing makes a difference–a big difference–just like it did for me 12 years ago!”

She brought the volunteers a cup of hot chocolate in thanksgiving. “The cocoa was flavorful and warm…but it could not come close to the warmth she left in our hearts,” Thom said. “Tonight we saw the power of our Lord in the face of a young single mother!

West Covina, California

“We are having a great start in West Covina,” said Yvonne, the longtime campaign leader. The great-grandmother of a baby saved from abortion NINE years ago has a weekly prayer shift at the vigil.

“During the kickoff rally, Carmen happily shared her testimony of helping to save her great-granddaughter Leia by seeking help from the 40 Days for Life vigil participants,” Yvonne said.

Leia’s parents have since married, and Leia now has a little brother.

“Leia tends to everyone’s needs,” Yvonne said. “While baby brother is nursed, Leia ensures Mama eats as well by bringing her a snack.”

Mobile, Alabama

“This may be the largest turnout of children from the Catholic Schools and their parents during 40 Days for Life!” wrote the Mobile leadership team.
“What a joy to see so many souls sacrificing to support life! Even though the morning was dreary, the future is BRIGHT!”

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. —Matthew 11:28

Father, hear our prayer! Snatch desperate mothers from the fire. Bring them out of our abortion businesses and into our pregnancy help centers. Deliver them from evil. Use us to help them chose life and see your hand of provision.

DAY 17: Lies about…you!

March 22, 2019

Abortion can’t survive without lies…

…lies about medical science, the humanity of the pre-born child, and the devastating effect abortion has on women.

But abortion supporters also tell lies about YOU.

“You’re not pro-life; you’re pro-birth!” they say. “Pro-lifers quit caring about the baby after it’s born!”

Anyone who’s repeated that lie has never met Margarita, the leader of the 40 Days for Life campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. She and her team maintain a relationship with families long after they choose life, helping to meet their material and spiritual needs.

Margarita’s 40 Days for Life volunteers have rallied to help provide groceries, rent money, a phone, and other basic needs for families they’ve met at the abortion center.

Volunteers even paid for lacrosse fees and equipment for the daughter of a family they helped save from abortion–during the 2007 campaign!

“If anyone would like to attend one of her lacrosse games, it would mean the world to her,” Margarita said. “Let me know, and I will try to go with you! We are a family!

The team in Atlanta helped save two more babies from abortion this weekend. “When they first drove in, the mom laughed and sneered at us,” Margarita said. “But about 45 minutes later, they came out crying.”

The family enthusiastically accepted the gift of Margarita’s Bible…and the offer of a baby shower. “Please keep them in your prayers,” Margarita requested.

Christchurch, New Zealand

The vigil site in New Zealand was located just around the corner from the recent terror attack that claimed the lives of nearly 50 Muslim worshipers. In the aftermath of the attack, the vigil has been moved inside a church for security purposes.

Pray for all those impacted by the senseless act of violence!

Before the vigil moved inside, a man rode his bike to the vigil and read a poem about a child scheduled for an abortion to the volunteers. As tears streamed down his face, he revealed HE was the baby once scheduled to lose his life in an abortion center.

“Thanks be to God it did not happen!” wrote the Christchurch team.

Facebook

Many post-abortive women report that they would have chosen life if just one person had encouraged them to do so.

We recently received a Facebook message from one such woman. “Years ago, I had two abortions. I thought it was my only choice,” she wrote. “I’m thankful for God’s great mercy.”
She said if someone had been on the sidewalk for her abortions, she would have stopped. “The work you do is so important. So many more women need to see the sidewalk counselors before they walk through the door…”

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. —Genesis 2:7

Lord, we are yours. Thank you for breathing into us the breath of life. Thank you for claiming us as your own. May our words and actions in defense of human life proclaim to all the world that you alone are Lord of life and death, Lord of our freedom and of our choices.

DAY 18: Glenn Beck coverage

March 23, 2019

Yesterday, I joined the Glenn Beck Radio Program to discuss both the Unplanned film AND YOUR prayer, witness, and sacrifice in front of abortion businesses.

Tune in to our conversation by viewing the video above or visiting https://youtu.be/Y4mPVwxMELo

Glenn and I discussed how Unplanned is a true story of God responding to the prayers of ordinary people in extraordinary ways. Do you trust Him to work miracles in your community?

If so, visit https://40daysforlife.com/browse-campaigns/ and sign up to pray in front of your local abortion business.

Maybe the next pro-life Hollywood blockbuster will be about the way God answered your prayers!

Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix campaign co-leader, Ellen, celebrated a birthday this week.

The first thing she did on her special day was head to the vigil to pray that unborn children might get to celebrate their own birthdays.

Her wish was granted early as Ellen’s leadership partner, Nancy, reported TWO babies saved in the Valley of the Sun last weekend.

Happy birthday, Ellen!

Quito, Ecuador

For Quito leader Xavier, praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil is a family affair.

“When my children and my niece get together, they do not want to do anything but play games,” he said. But when Xavier told them it was time to pray at the vigil, “They all stopped playing and got in the car with a big smile on their faces.”

Xavier said he and his wife feel “blessed by the Lord through our children and our family” because the little ones’ love for the Lord “sets an example for the grownups.”

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. —Psalm 127:3-5

Heavenly Father, please keep me from taking for granted the gift of children. Help us to remember this heritage that you have given us. Make us faithful stewards of these precious lives, that each generation might be raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

DAY 15: Half of all Americans don’t know this

March 20, 2019

Half of all Americans don’t know Planned Parenthood does abortions.

It’s an astounding statistic and a great example of why community outreach is a key component of a 40 Days for Life campaign. The more people know about Planned Parenthood’s abortion empire, the more they REJECT Planned Parenthood.

Nobody is better equipped to educate about the devastating impact Planned Parenthood has on communities than 40 Days for Life Outreach Director (and longtime Planned Parenthood manager) Sue Thayer.

Sue has been busy speaking the truth about the abortion industry to media outlets close to home and around the world. She’s speaking at 40 Days for Life campaign events as well as to young people, political activists, fellow former abortion workers, and many others!

Northern California

At the Napa kickoff event, Sue met a fellow former Planned Parenthood worker. The nine-year clinic assistant is now good friends with the campaign co-leader, Ron, who prayed for her when she was still employed by the abortion industry.

While in California, Sue spoke to students at a Walnut Creek girls’ school. Initially, some students were disruptive…but within a few minutes, the mockery turned into undivided attention.

Still, one girl appeared bitter and even refused to shake Sue’s hand after the event. Instead she asked, “What about rape?”

Over the next moments, a heart softened as Sue talked about the love of Christ. “As her anger dissolved, a smile came to her face,” Sue said. “She acknowledged the amazing gift of life, regardless of how it began.”

The two parted with a hug.

Missouri

Sue addressed a packed house at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City to educate and encourage activists who are seeking to make Missouri the most pro-life state in the nation.

Sue went from the Capitol to the Columbia, Missouri Planned Parenthood facility, which is barred from performing abortions by a state law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at an area hospital. Last month, a federal judge (appointed by Obama!) denied Planned Parenthood an injunction that would have allowed abortions to resume.

Pouring rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the pro-lifers. “Our prayer supporters tell us that business is really DOWN at the former abortion facility,” said Campaign Leader Kathy. “Each campaign we see a greater and greater decrease in clients…”

Omaha, Nebraska

Sue spoke at a Students for Life leadership training event in Omaha, Nebraska. Her topic? Embracing controversy. With nearly two decades managing a Planned Parenthood facility, it’s safe to say Sue was the woman for the job!

Sue’s visit to Nebraska also included visits to campaign events in Lincoln and Bellevue–in front of the practice operated by infamous late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. On this rock I will build my church; the gates of hell will Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.” —Genesis 4:8-10

Father, help us to embrace the fact that we are our “brother’s keeper.” When, due to selfish motives, we try to cast off this responsibility please call to us to account. We would be pleasing to you and to our “brother.” Through the help and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

DAY 14: Planned Parenthood is abortion

March 19, 2019

Planned Parenthood used to pretend its mission isn’t abortion.

But, unlike her predecessors, the new CEO is not very good at hiding what Planned Parenthood really is. In an interview, she said that abortion is its “core mission,” and we now see that on the sidewalks.

A young couple in Houston, Texas visited the largest abortion facility in the Western Hemisphere hoping for a prenatal checkup. Instead, the couple was given an abortion price list.

When these proud parents said they just wanted an ultrasound, they were told they’d need to wait three hours. “They are all messed up, up in there!” they told the sidewalk counselors, who were able to direct them to a FREE ultrasound on Houston’s pro-life mobile pregnancy center bus.

You don’t keep a 78,000 square foot abortionplex open without a price list.

An ultrasound bus versus a massive abortion facility is a true David and Goliath battle. But vigil participants in Houston are seeing God save lives every day!

Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo

“Abortion is not allowed by law,” said Paul, who leads the campaign in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “But we are witnessing many, many cases of abortions here locally.”

How is that possible? The country’s abortion ban has a “life-of-the-mother” exception. It’s a massive breach that medical professionals in DRC exploit to perform a LOT of abortions.

“When I was reading [the] data, I was tempted to think that in DR Congo, there is a higher rate of abortion cases than in some countries where abortion is allowed,” Paul said.

Lawndale, California

“All-in-all, great!” said Lawndale coordinator Laura. “We have about three new churches involved, so our volunteer list has grown by about 30-40 people, many new to this work.”

Laura’s outreach in Southern California has added a distinctly international flavor to her campaign. Among her new volunteers, “one is a retired fellow from Sri Lanka, and another is a grandmother from Peru.”

The Lawndale team has achieved 12 hours of on-site vigil presence daily. “The word is spreading about our efforts!”

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you. — Ephesians 4:31-32

Dearest God, You tell us in Proverbs that the foolish and the wicked lack wisdom and understanding. I pray you will trouble the souls of those in the abortion industry so that they hunger for truth and cry out for freedom.

DAY 19: What women want

March 24, 2019

No one grows up wanting an abortion.

Abortion is a decision made out of fear, desperation, and sometimes coercion. That’s why volunteers in Jos, Nigeria hold signs reading “Real men don’t pressure women to abort” alongside their 40 Days for Life signs.

A 19-year-old woman approached the 40 Days for Life team there to ask for help. Her boyfriend wanted her to have an abortion…but she didn’t.

I promised her that I would help her,” said Maureen, the local leader. “She chose life. I’m going to get her registered in the hospital today so that she can attend antenatal clinic.”

When offered a choice–women choose life! On this week’s episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we discuss a new survey that reveals what women want–instead of abortion. Click here to listen in:

https://40daysforlife.com/2019/03/19/what-abortion-vulnerable-women-really-want-podcast-season-4-episode-12/

It’s not just women being pressured over abortion. Western governments pressure entire continents to accept abortion.

Listen to a podcast rewind–“Aborting Africa” to learn what Maureen and other pro-lifers across the continent are up against: https://40daysforlife.com/2017/08/22/podcast-85/

Ventura, California

“Nothing has stopped Ryan and his fellow classmates from Thomas Aquinas College from coming out to pray at the local Planned Parenthood in Ventura,” said Ann, who volunteers with the local campaign.

“[Even] with their busy college schedules, they managed to cover eight hours consecutively to pray for the unborn and hand out pro-life literature.”

It sounds like Ryan and his friends would make great candidates for next year’s 4040 Scholarship: https://40daysforlife.com/scholarship/

Fullerton, Maryland

It was chilly on the sidewalks in Fullerton as 16 volunteers “huddled together” to stay warm. Their presence drew the attention of the media.

“We actually had a reporter interviewing us for a local magazine,” said Tina, who leads the Fullerton campaign.

The excitement continues as the campaign will host a youth rally at the abortion facility this week.

If I have despised the cause of my male or female servant when they complained against me, what then shall I do when God rises up? When He punishes, how shall I answer Him? Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb? —Job 31:13-15

God, forgive us when we try to explain away the obligation we have to help others who need help. Enable us to not devalue them because they are in the circumstance that they are in, but to see them for what they are, those, who like us, were formed by your hand in their mother’s womb. Amen.

DAY 20: Pressured to abort

March 25, 2019

It’s another saved baby Monday! As we reach the halfway point of this 40 Days for Life campaign, we know of …

…167 babies saved from abortion through your prayers!

Do you think the pro-lifers in New York State are motivated right now? Most 40 Days for Life campaigns feature a single vigil on Long Island. This campaign features THREE.

In Smithtown, which is hosting its first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign, a woman admitted she pressured a teenage girl named Jessica into an abortion a few months earlier.

Jessica–heartbroken and trying to make amends for the loss of her child–decided to get pregnant again. And the same woman who pressured her into an abortion had now brought her right back to Planned Parenthood for another one.

“The woman felt crushed, extremely guilty, and did not know what to do about this second pregnancy,” wrote the Smithtown leadership team.

That’s when Jessica burst out of Planned Parenthood, running toward the vigil, crying, and looking for help. Vigil participants were happy to offer it, setting her up with an appointment at a crisis pregnancy center.

“Jessica and her companions had come to the sidewalk desperate and crying,” the Smithtown team said. “After speaking with the [vigil participants], they left with hugs and smiles…hopeful and relieved!

Orange, California

The couple refused to talk or accept pro-life information from vigil participants as they walked into Planned Parenthood. But a little while later, they abruptly drove away.

“As they left, the woman in the passenger’s seat rolled down her window and told me that they had decided to keep their baby,” said longtime campaign coordinator Alejandra. “I congratulated them and gave them the resource pamphlet. The woman seemed interested and happy!”

Washington, D.C.

A mother expecting her fifth child appeared at Washington’s Planned Parenthood, feeling overwhelmed.

Michael, the campaign leader, said she reported some “misgivings about having an abortion” and she saw the 40 Days for Life vigil as “some kind of sign.”

Volunteers gave her baby booties and information on local pregnancy help centers while Michael summoned an Uber to bring her home.

Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife because she was barren; and the Lord granted his prayer and Rebekah his wife conceived. The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is thus, why do I live?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. And the Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples, born of you, shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger.” — Genesis 25:21-23

O, God, you formed us in our mother’s womb and planned a unique and special life and purpose for each of us, and we do thank you. Grant that we may pray and work for an end to abortion, especially in these 40 days, so that no unborn baby you have made may fail to achieve your divine intention for him or her because of intentional abortion.

DAY 21: VIDEO: 85-year old campaign leader attacked!

March 26, 2019

One of the most loving and dedicated long-time 40 Days for Life leaders was attacked at his vigil outside the Planned Parenthood in San Francisco.

Ron, who is 85 years-old, has been leading the campaign in San Francisco for years, and I have personally witnessed his joyful and compassionate approach to women seeking abortions and women who have had an abortion.

On March 19, a perpetrator approached the vigil and threw a sign, a table and pro-life literature into the street. He then knocked two men to the ground during that incident, including Ron.

On March 21, Ron was the victim of a brutal attack when the assailant returned, stole the 40 Days for Life banner, and proceeded to viciously kick Ron.

Ron tried, unsuccessfully, to stop the theft of the banner by putting a stick into the spokes of the assailant’s bicycle. Then, the perpetrator shoved Ron to the ground and began violently and repeatedly kicking him while yelling, “Stay on the ground, old man.”

The video, is raw, unedited, and disturbing. View it in the player above or visit https://youtu.be/pwqgQ6RBMOc

The attacks were reported to law enforcement, and police officers took statements from the victims. Ron was treated by paramedics at the scene. It is not clear whether a formal investigation has been launched.

Planned Parenthood allegedly has video surveillance of the area including the attacks, but it has been initially reported that they are unwilling to release the video or assist in the pending investigation.

Matt Britton, General Counsel for 40 Days for Life and a four-term elected prosecutor, said, “40 Days for Life will always support and defend its vigilant and peaceful prayer volunteers. As a former elected prosecutor, I have reviewed thousands of cases of violence, and anyone who would make such a brutal, vicious assault and robbery of an elderly, peaceful man should end up in the penitentiary where he can do no more harm. It is unconscionable that in the United States of America, law-abiding citizens are not free to peacefully express their opinions without the fear of thugs like this. I hope that the great City of San Francisco, which has so many protests of all types, recognizes and protects this basic American principle of Freedom of Speech by investigating, apprehending and punishing this shameful assailant.”

Life Legal–who has worked for years with 40 Days for Life–is representing Ron.

“The vicious attack against our elderly client is intolerable,” said Allison Aranda, Life Legal Senior Counsel and former Prosecutor of the Year. “We will pursue all legal avenues to see that justice is served and that the freedom to speak freely on the public sidewalk without threat of physical violence is protected no matter the message. As a former prosecutor, I trust that the San Francisco District Attorney’s office will pursue all legal charges against the perpetrator and bring him to justice.”

Read the full statement from 40 Days for Life General Counsel, Matt Britton and Ron’s attorneys here: https://40daysforlife.com/2019/03/25/85-year-old-pro-life-advocate-brutally-assaulted-outside-planned-parenthood-facility/

40 Days for Life has been blessed to never have an incident like this one before, and we will keep you updated on this situation. All participants should know that our local leaders are trained on how to report incidents like this. 40 Days for Life has been done in 816 cities in 56 countries by over 800,000 volunteers, and we are asking all of them to pray for the San Francisco team right now.

In a time when many in our country are advocating for infanticide, Ron serves as a faithful witness to women and the unborn. Please pray for him and know that we will report further developments.

Columbia, South Carolina

Columbia Campaign Leader Mark said that Planned Parenthood used to be open six days a week. Since 40 Days for Life came to town, however, it’s down to FOUR.

In addition to that reduction in hours, Mark said Planned Parenthood has been closed unexpectedly the last two Mondays. “The pro-life community here is making a difference and looks forward to the day when we see this facility close for good.”

Mark added that the Columbia premiere of Unplanned already sold out…and there is a waiting list. “The momentum is on our side!”

Bremerton, Washington

“Today is a glorious day…15 children and 4 adults praying here at Planned Parenthood,” said Laurie, the campaign leader in Bremerton.

“I do believe this is a record number of children at one time,” she continued. “We already know of 2 saves here–God is so good!”

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand. — Ephesians 6:12-13

Dear Lord, as you lead us into the spiritual battle of abortion may we be reminded that the battle is truly Yours. Thank you for hearing our requests for direction and protection. Thank you for the victory that is ours because of Your Son Jesus, amen

Pro-Life Movie Review: Unplanned

40 Days for Life Campaign Director Steve Karlen and Campaign Strategist Chris Davis recently toured vigils across the State of Wisconsin. Here’s their report:

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

There’s never a dull day at Milwaukee’s vigil. The abortion facility is in a busy urban neighborhood. Aggressive abortion facility escorts try to make life difficult for sidewalk counselors. One abortion worker brought her young child to work–while she lobbed profanities at vigil participants.

While Chris addressed volunteers (in decidedly more encouraging ways), September, the local leader, saved a baby from abortion!

September’s co-leader, Dan, suggested that wouldn’t be the only baby saved. Sure enough, before Steve and Chris left town, a second baby was spared. The Milwaukee team now knows of ELEVEN abortions averted in the Cream City.

Kenosha, Wisconsin

A sign on the door at Kenosha’s Planned Parenthood center reads, “No firearms or weapons allowed on the property.”

There is, apparently, an exception to that rule. A man wearing a handgun walked right past Chris, Steve and a host of stunned prayer warriors.

Minutes later, he carried a bag out of the building…right to an armored truck–another reminder that abortion is big business.

In addition to 40 Days for Life volunteers, the vigil was attended by a reporter and photographer to put the event on the front page of the city’s newspaper.

Sheybogan, Wisconsin

Bernice in Sheboygan is a widow, and her children are all grown. But she said it’s clear God still has plans for her.

When Planned Parenthood opened a new abortion facility in Sheboygan last year, she responded by organizing a highly effective 40 Days for Life campaign. Those efforts continue to grow. New York’s embrace of late-term abortion has motivated a number of first-time volunteers to hit the sidewalks.

The rally in Sheboygan was proof positive Bernice is making inroads in the community. Attended by Catholics, Protestants, a pair of Lutheran ministers, and a representative from the city’s pregnancy help center, attendees were enthusiastic and quite motivated to end abortion in their city.

Stevens Point, Wisconsin

Dozens of pro-lifers braved a biting wind and muddy sidewalks to pray for an end to abortion in Stevens Point.

“It was awesome,” wrote Jim and Gary who lead the campaign. “We even had a couple [drive] an hour and 45 minutes to join us.”

That’s the type of commitment that is bringing about the end of abortion!

Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. — Job 12:9-10

Thank you, Father God, for being the Creator of my life and every life. Please give me, and the society in which I live, an appreciation for your gift of life. Please help us set aside our pride and acknowledge that we need you. Show me how I can honor you today in response to all the blessings you bestow freely.

DAY 23: #1 reason for the UNPLANNED movie

March 28, 2019

There is one reason for the uproar and controversy over the release of Unplanned, which will show on 1,000 screens on Friday, March 29.

Unplanned is the definitive movie on abortion that has sparked more pre-release controversy than any film in awhile. The explanation is not complicated. The reason for all the drama and speculation is not because of the R rating. It’s not because it exposes Planned Parenthood and how they operate. And it’s not because we currently have governors, senators and presidential candidates casually supporting infanticide (although the timing for such a movie couldn’t be more perfect).

The uproar is for the person who inspired the movie but will never be able to see it: the 13-week-old baby boy who was aborted right before the eyes of Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson on September 26, 2009. He changed her heart. He is the reason this movie exists. And by portraying his short life, this film validates that this baby had a life.

The scene is short but powerful. To create the abortion, the filmmakers, Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon of God’s Not Dead, took actual ultrasound footage of a 13-week-old baby boy, like the one Abby witnessed. Then, using CGI technology, they created the abortion. It is powerful–and something the viewer needs to see and will never forget.

And you should recognize his short life by buying a ticket this weekend. He represents not only himself, but all aborted babies who have no voice and are hardly ever known or seen.

I knew Abby the entire time she worked at Planned Parenthood. She was a very hard-working person who defended “choice” better than anyone else and truly thought she was helping women. Then, she came face-to-face with the baby boy on the ultrasound. He humanized all unborn children for her because he fought. He was alive. He didn’t care whether we thought he could feel pain or whether he should get to be born or who his parents were. He just fought for his life right before Abby’s eyes.

It was a fight he had no chance of winning, and, as a result, he changed the heart of an abortion facility director. Look at his impact. Abby has helped 500 abortion workers leave the industry. How many babies has Abby Johnson saved from abortion as a result? How many babies are alive because of that baby boy’s short life?

40 Days for Life has helped 186 abortion workers leave their job; Abby was the 26th. She managed the Planned Parenthood where 40 Days for Life began; it was right next door to my office where we offered free pregnancy tests and alternatives to abortion. This peaceful prayer campaign has now gone to 816 cities in 56 countries. Abby’s story is unique because of Joseph–because she witnessed his abortion.

There are many good reasons to see Unplanned this weekend. Yes, it’s is the beautiful story of Abby Johnson–her courage, her wonderful family, and her willingness to put her life out there like no former abortion worker ever has. The movie is also accurate and the best education on abortion of any film. A good (but not great) reason to see Unplanned is to stick it to Hollywood and help other movies like this get made.

But the real reason you should see this–and why Planned Parenthood does NOT want you to see it–is because of that 13-week-old baby boy. He had no voice and now he has a movie.

Honor his short life. Pay homage to those who have gone through the same barbaric death as he did, a death that Hollywood rated R, but a death that will not be forgotten. Abby has been his voice, and you can be one too by commemorating him, his movie, and his life.

Glasgow, Scotland

“We had a woman stop at the vigil site yesterday to thank all ‘you wonderful pro-life people who are always there in the background helping people like me.‘”

More than three decades ago, the passerby became pregnant and was given an ultimatum by her parents: either abort the baby or be put out of the house.

She was 21 and she stood her ground. She received help, and her beautiful baby girl has since presented her mother with four beautiful grandchildren.

But the Lord said “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about that great city?” — Jonah 4:10-11

Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us. Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it.

Marietta, Georgia

Actress Robin DeMarco (second from right), who plays Abby Johnson’s mom in Unplanned, spoke at a 40 Days for Life event in Marietta.

“Around 160 incredible souls…came to worship God, pray, and support the fight to shut down the Marietta PP and enjoy sweet fellowship with fellow pro-life warriors,” said Suzanne, who co-leads the campaign with her daughter Rachel (far right).

Suzanne said one of her prayer warriors was able to pray with and redirect an abortion-minded couple to the local pregnancy center.

Abortion Workers

“I’m going to make you happy,” said the abortion worker exiting an East Coast Planned Parenthood. “I just quit.”

A similar report came in from a West Coast Planned Parenthood. “One of the workers here at Planned Parenthood told me yesterday that after next week, she won’t be here any more!” said a member of the local campaign leadership team.

Vigil participants weren’t ready to describe either employee’s departure as a conversion, but it’s always good news when the abortion industry loses a staffer!

Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name. — Nehemiah 1:10-11

We pray for your continued guidance and protection throughout the remainder of this 40-day campaign. May we be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in Your work, knowing that our labor will not be in vain.

DAY 25: Abby isn’t alone

March 30, 2019

Last night’s release of Unplanned was a major success!

A pro-abortion newspaper columnist wrote, “By the end of the film, I was completely distraught, questioning everything I had ever believed about what abortion really was.”

The movie about Abby Johnson’s conversion from Planned Parenthood manager to pro-life advocate captivated sold-out theaters from coast-to-coast.

And Abby isn’t alone. She was the 26th of 186 who have left the abortion industry during a 40 Days for Life campaign. Abby and her ministry, And Then There Were None, have helped over 500 abortion workers!

Dr. Haywood Robinson is a former abortion doctor who met the Lord, converted, and quit performing abortions decades ago. He now serves on the 40 Days for Life board of directors.

Haywood recently visited campaigns across Southwest Florida–and met another fellow abortion worker along the way. Check out his report from the Sunshine State.

Naples, Florida

Haywood wasn’t the only abortion worker to speak at a campaign event in Naples. Myra, a former Planned Parenthood surgical assistant, also addressed rally attendees.

Upon getting a job at the abortion giant, she convinced herself that her need to provide for her family trumped any personal objections she had to abortion. That changed when she witnessed the abortion of quadruplets. Myra left her job–and brought three co-workers with her.

We will feature Myra in the summer edition of Day 41 magazine. Click here to get your free subscription: https://40daysforlife.com/magazine/

Port Charlotte, Florida

Haywood addressed a packed house in Port Charlotte, where Tom is leading his first 40 Days for Life campaign–at 90 years old!

The abortionist in Port Charlotte is 85 years old. Tom said if the abortion provider can end lives at 85, surely he can lead a 40 Days for Life vigil at 90!

Sarasota, Florida

Haywood’s wife Noreen is also a former abortion provider. The two of them spoke to a large crowd following a testimony from Darlene (pictured above), with Silent No More Awareness.

“Haywood put his arm around her and asked the group to pray for her,” said Rich, the leader in Sarasota.

What happened next touched everybody. “Noreen came up and asked Darlene to forgive the two former abortionists for what they did,” Rich said.

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” — Jeremiah 1:4-5

Lord God, we confess that in You we live and move and have our being. Because You are, we are. May we find grace from You to affirm the being of every human and may we labor to make this truth known to the world around us.

DAY 26: Theater employee finds healing

March 31, 2019

Unplanned is already making an impact.

Mark in El Paso reported that theater employees screen every movie to ensure the video and audio all work as designed. That quality control screening led to a deep conversation among the local theater staff.

“One staff member disclosed abortion trauma,” Mark said. “They were very grateful to receive information and contacts for our local post-abortion support group and retreats, which they now plan to attend.”

Simply starting the conversation on abortion is half the battle. And one way to start that discussion is by sporting your favorite 40 Days for Life shirt, hat or jacket.

Wherever I go, people see the logo and ask, “What’s 40 Days for Life?” Every one of these discussions is an opportunity.

To help seize that opportunity, our store is running a movie special. Click here, get your gear, and wear what the stars of Unplanned wore on the big screenhttps://40daysforlifegear.com/

Movie specials include:

If you haven’t seen Unplanned yet, SEE IT TODAY. If you have…see it again!

London, England

“Hail, rain and cold weather! Did not stop our heroic volunteers, though!” wrote Sarah in London.

Families and people of all ages are joining the vigil–some traveling hours to come pray.

One volunteer came much farther than that. Renee, who helps lead the Champaign, Illinois 40 Days for life campaign, visited England and prayed at the London vigil site.

Boston, Massachusetts

Three generations of prayer warriors came out to pray at the Planned Parenthood location in Boston.

Cait, her mother Christin, and her grandmother Mary joined the vigil. “Christin, in the middle, has 12 children!” said Rita, who leads the Boston campaign.

These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season, what you give them they gather in; you open your hand they are filled with good. You hide your face, they are troubled; you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth your Spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth. — Psalm 104:27-30

Beloved Father, remind us today that there is no truth but you. Do not let us fall prey to the evil one’s lie that we may choose death. Remind us right now that you, who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us know right now that you who created all life, are in control of all life, and let us choose life always. Keep lighting the pathway home, for us and for all who participate in this 40 Days for Life campaign.

DAY 27: Unplanned surprises Hollywood at box office

April 1, 2019

Unplanned spurred HUGE 40 Days for Life vigil turnout this weekend!

And it’s no wonder. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s box office performance more than DOUBLED expectations going into this weekend!

As a result, the film will be on 600 MORE screens nationwide compared with the opening weekend!

Today we know of 263 babies saved from abortion through YOUR prayers since March 6.

Many of those lives are being saved in places where pro-lifers can’t expect help ending abortion from their elected officials. Illinois, for example, is about to pass legislation so extreme it would make the state the most abortion-friendly in the country.

Even New York’s legalization of third-trimester abortion pales in comparison. To make matters worse, in 2017, the previous governor of Illinois mandated taxpayer funding of abortion for poor women.

The consequences have been predictable. New abortion centers are opening, and thousands of out-of-state women visit Illinois for abortions each year.

But pro-lifers in the “Land of Lincoln” are rising to the occasion. There are 40 Days for Life campaigns at new abortion facilities in Flossmoor and Skokie.

The Flossmoor campaign already saved a baby!

“There were eight of us [praying]” said Karen, who volunteers for the campaign. “A young woman rolled down the window…She told us she had changed her mind…we were so very happy!”

So was the young mother. She introduced the prayer volunteers to “the daddy,” smiled, and left Planned Parenthood!

Springfield, Illinois

The 40 Days for Life campaign in Springfield reported a baby saved from abortion this campaign.

I’ve got some really exciting news to tell you,” said the campaign team. “Last Thursday, on the sidewalk, there was a prayer warrior out here. [The occupants of] a car stopped, rolled down their window and said ‘we couldn’t do it!'”

Syracuse, New York

Speaking of places where 40 Days for Life volunteers are making an impact even in hostile political climates, the Syracuse campaign reported a baby saved from abortion.

She was looking for a sign from God!” said Campaign Leader Jeanie of the woman who chose life. “Our prayer warriors prayed with her and offered all the help available to support her.”

Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Vigil participants handed pro-life literature to a couple entering Planned Parenthood. Not long after, the couple came right back out.

“It seems as if the woman’s partner was trying to convince her to go back in,” said Anita, the local leader. “However, she did NOT, and they continued to the bus stop.”

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. — Philippians 2:5-8

O Lord, help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Let us humbly and diligently work to restore legal protection for the unborn, the disabled, the medically dependent and all innocent children of God whose lives are threatened. Let us remember the old adage that “He can never lead who has not first learned to obey.” And, Lord, grant us a peaceful heart as we labor in your name.

DAY 28: Breaking records

April 2, 2019

The numbers are in. Not only did Unplanned double Hollywood’s projections for opening weekend…

…new volunteers are flocking to the 377 vigil locations in the current 40 Days for Life campaign…

…and The 40 Days for Life Podcast also SHATTERED a longstanding record for most downloads in a month. THANK YOU!

If you haven’t tuned in yet, find out what you’ve been missing at 40daysforlife.com/podcast

As Unplanned expands to 600 MORE screens this weekend, go behind the scenes of the most pro-life film of all time by listening to these podcast episodes:

One of the most heart-wrenching scenes in Unplanned shows Planned Parenthood covering up a botched abortion.

While Planned Parenthood insists abortion is safe, we see numerous abortion facility clients leaving in ambulances.

Here are just a few reports:

Smithtown, New York

“Another ambulance was seen leaving Planned Parenthood on March 25,” said Marie, who is helping lead the city’s first-ever campaign.

Is this typical?” she asked. An ambulance visited that Planned Parenthood “twice–at least that we know of–in less than two weeks.”

Another volunteer noted that ambulances at Planned Parenthood leave their sirens turned off until they are away from the abortion facility.

Riverside, California

An emergency at Planned Parenthood in Riverside required both an ambulance with flashing lights AND a firetruck. Witnesses reported a person being transported out of the facility on a stretcher.

Little Rock, Arkansas

Vigil participants in Little Rock also reported an ambulance last week. Abortion center workers or volunteers used rainbow umbrellas to prevent anybody from witnessing the tragedy.

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. — Isaiah 1:16-17

O God, our heavenly Father, give us courage and wisdom as we seek to eradicate the evil in our society.

Help us to realize that your divine Spirit alone can change hearts and minds so that all your human creatures may enjoy the fullness of life you intended for them.
