40 DAYS FOR LIFE: MAR. 6 – APR. 14

The word you are looking for is “monster”

March 5, 2019

40 Days for Life starts in 377 cities this week, and sadly it begins in uncharted waters in the United States of America.

Not because of what is being said by fringe abortion advocates yelling in the street, but because of what is being supported by elected governors and senators.

These governors and senators are kind, tolerant and well-dressed. They are smooth talkers and they want you, as an American, to know that even though they are highly sophisticated, they are tender enough to make sure a newborn baby is comfortable before they let the child die on a table after a failed abortion.

Yes, you read that right. They promise that any newborn child born from a failed abortion will be comfortable before making sure the child doesn’t even make it through her first hour of life.

You are probably asking the same question I have asked myself: What kind of a person could stare at a newborn baby girl on a table crying and not give her medical treatment?

Many answers have been given, but all the proposed answers miss the severity of the reality of what happens when an abortion fails.

The baby was supposed to be killed and is now alive. He or she is on the table, moving, crying, looking around. I have seen my seven children come into the world; the last thing any halfway sane person who is looking at the baby is thinking is “Let’s NOT give her what she needs.” But, then again, my wife and I usually just have my sweet mother-in-law in the delivery room and not Virginia Gov. Northam.

This is the scene. We are all standing around looking at the baby girl on the table. What the governors and senators are saying is at that beautiful moment of humanity, they are numb to that baby girl. They have no problem getting her comfortable and killing her.

So, what kind of a person supports this? The word you’re looking for is “monster.”

Only a monster would let a baby die on a table. The sickness behind this barbaric and ruthless act cannot be legitimized or labeled as an acceptable “political viewpoint.” It is cold-blooded murder done to our most innocent. I wouldn’t trust these politicians to watch my dogs (although they would probably never let a puppy die on the table).

We too often look down on other cultures who dehumanize a segment of the population, but look at what we have become in the United States with abortion. We have a large segment of elected officials who would refuse a baby medical care after birth. Monsters indeed — who the hell do we think we are?

It was Flannery O’Connor who said, “In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber.”

Those who live amidst the injustice are often the numbest to the gravity of it. Yet, this wave of infanticide comes at a time when there is more momentum in the pro-life movement than ever before. And I think the monsters are helping wake up many who didn’t realize what is legal in America.

Though angry and frustrated at this situation, our response must be one of courage, love, and fortitude. That is the only way to defeat such evil.

Abortion facilities have closed at a record pace the last six years, and the abortion industry’s response is to push abortion up to birth and allow any survivor to die on a table. This is not a time to be discouraged in the face of such desperation; this is a time to act. So many people think their voice doesn’t matter or that they can’t make a difference. I am here to tell you that is far from the truth. I know because I have seen the impact of simply showing up and praying.

To date, we have saved more than 15,000 lives. And 186 abortion workers have quit their jobs. One of them is being featured in a major motion picture, Unplanned, opening March 29.

Do not throw your hands in the air or curse at your television. Let this barbaric mentality motivate you to offer hope, healing, and medical alternatives to women where you live. That is what is ending abortion at the local level.

More than 800,000 people have participated in 40 Days for Life around the world and now they have more motivation than ever before to pray, fast, and stand vigil for an end to abortion.

Will you join them?

Scripture and Prayer

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land. — 2 Chronicles 7:14

Heavenly Father, we cry out for Your mercy and ask You to remove the scourge of abortion from our land. Use us as your vessels, Lord, to bring the light of Your truth to our nation once again.

Mission

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:

The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities … and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.

Vision

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion.

Mission

The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40-day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.

Prayer and Fasting

manassas1ep

Want to end abortion? If you do, the first thing you must do is pray. Prayer is at the center of 40 Days for Life. During each campaign, we are calling on people of faith across the nation … and around the world … to fall on their knees before the Lord, asking Him to hear our plea and heal our land. Pray outside an abortion facility. Pray at church. Pray at work. Pray in the car. Pray at home with your family.

Christ told us some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand in hand. Prayer keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire to carry out God’s will. Fasting is a sacrifice that helps us reach beyond our own limitations with God’s help.

Each day during 40 Days for Life, individuals, churches, families and groups will be asked to join together in prayer for a specific request so the entire Body of Christ can unite around a common focus. These specific prayer requests will seek God’s help for:

People of faith are also invited to fast throughout 40 Days for Life. Christ said there are demons that can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. A fast is not a Christian diet; it is a powerful means of drawing closer to God by blocking out distractions. Fast from certain foods. Fast from television. Fast from apathy and indifference. Fast from whatever it is that separates you from God.

We believe that when God’s people fast with a broken, repentant and contrite spirit, our heavenly Father will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation, and our world.

Constant Vigil

cleveland1ep

The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day, non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community.

It is a peaceful and educational presence. Those who are called to stand witness during this 24-hour-a-day presence send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion. It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work at the abortion center and those who patronize the facility.

If you do not have an abortion facility or Planned Parenthood office in your town, you can still conduct 40 Days for Life; however, you will need to select a different location which has some strategic significance – perhaps near city hall, a courthouse, or a highly visible intersection.

Community Outreach

batonrouge3ep

During 40 Days for Life, the message is take proactively to every corner of your community. Media outreach is conducted through carefully targeted news stories, talk shows, editorials and opinion pieces so you get the message out to people who would never see the inside of a church.

Church involvement begins by meeting with local pastors, other church leaders, and members of different congregations. The Body of Christ is invited to pray together and participate in 40 Days for Life, uniting in one focused mission that can save lives and make an eternal impact.

A door-to-door petition and education drive reaches out to every household in your town or city. Informational flyers are distributed in neighborhoods to raise awareness about the local crisis of abortion. Citizens are invited to sign a petition of support for the sanctity of human life, and people are given the opportunity to visibly show their support for 40 Days for Life by wearing wristbands, placing signs in their yards, or displaying bumper stickers on their vehicles.

This one activity alone can help a community rapidly identify hundreds, or even thousands, of pro-life supporters during the 40 days. These people can then be encouraged to pray and join local pro-life efforts.

If your community has a college campus, many students can be impacted through an intense 40-day campus outreach. This can consist of flyer raids, public witness, petition drives, table displays, and much more.

Just got a card from Right to Life Oregon asking me to contact my representative. There are four bills “vastly expand assisted suicide” House Bills 2217, 2232 2903, Senate bill 579.

Oregon has become a death cult

40 Days for Life has a new leader this year and he has assigned churches to certain days. Then at these churches they are actively soliciting pray-ers for hours from 7:00 am through 7:00 pm.

Other groups from our community are taking the night hours!

75% no-show rate!

March 6, 2019

40 Days for Life starts TODAY in 377 cities around the globe…

…and today we are in uncharted waters as politicians calmly and coldly advocate for infanticide. It’s unprecedented.

This is NOT the campaign to sit on the sidelines.

This radical onslaught against born and unborn children is a clear sign that Planned Parenthood and its allies are desperate. But it’s also a reminder that our work is not done yet.

Matt Britton, Sue Thayer, and I recorded a new video to put the current state of the abortion crisis into historical perspective and to encourage YOU as you hit the streets these next 40 days. Watch the video in the player above or click here: https://youtu.be/gIF7ruNEJz8

You CAN make a difference. Former abortion workers report that when someone prays in front of an abortion facility, the “no-show” rate for abortion appointments can go to as high as 75 percent!

Be that someone. Sign up TODAY to pray at the 40 Days for Life vigil closest to you:

40 Days for Life Updates

Las Vegas, Nevada

40 Days for Life Campaign Director Steve Karlen just visited the busiest late-term abortion facility in Las Vegas for the city’s first-ever spring campaign.

It’s a daunting location, and the facility built an eight-foot fence to inhibit sidewalk counselors. One of the center’s abortionists has a disturbing record of complications–including a woman who died due to a “negligent performance of pregnancy termination.”

“Las Vegas is known as ‘Sin City’,” Steve said. “But as Scripture reminds us, where sin abounds–grace abounds all the more.”

Indeed, lives are being saved. A pregnancy center next door to the abortion facility recently celebrated its 30,000th baby saved from abortion, and the director told Steve that the campaign “definitely, DEFINITELY” makes a difference.

The opening kickoff event featured strong turnout spanning Christian denominations. About a third of the attendees said it was their first time getting involved in 40 Days for Life!

Fayetteville, Arkansas

Campaign Strategist Chris Davis kicked off the campaign in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The weather was cold, but spirits were high as Chris shared a personal testimony about his own pre-conversion crisis pregnancy. “I was 38, feeling that I should have known better,” Chris said. “I show women on the sidewalk a picture of my son and encourage them that if I could choose life at age 38, they can do it at 28 or 18 or whatever age.”

After speaking, Chris was approached by a now-elderly man whose crisis pregnancy came at 59 years old. He and his young-adult daughter attended the rally together.

Scripture and Prayer

Blow the trumpet in Zion! Proclaim a fast, call an assembly. Gather the people, notify the congregation. Assemble the elders; gather the children and the infants at the breast … Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep and say, “Spare, O Lord, your people.” —Joel 2:15-17

Lord, we ask for the strength, courage, wisdom, determination and stamina to carry out this mission according to Your will. Guide us, we pray, as we go forth and proclaim Your truth.

DAY 2: Baby saved in first hour!

March 7, 2019

There’s nothing quite like day 1 of a 40 Days for Life campaign.

Today we received the first report of a baby saved from abortion–during the vigil’s first hour!

While much of the 40 Days for Life world was still sleeping, volunteers in Birmingham, England helped an abortion-bound mother choose life.

“We had save number one during our first shift,” said Isabel, the local leader. “A lady was given a leaflet on her way in–she carried on inside but came out 15 minutes later and said she’d changed her mind and was keeping her baby. Praise God!”

Praise God, indeed!

Later that day, the faithful prayer warriors were joined by Bishop Bernard Longley.

On Sunday, Bishop John Keenan and Pastor Darnell Starks spoke at Birmingham’s kickoff rally. The highlight of the day was an appearance from a couple who chose life with help from the 40 Days for Life team during a previous vigil.

“They came back to say ‘thank you’ to everyone,” Isabel said. “And received a standing ovation from the packed hall.”

40 Days for Life Updates

Lincoln, Nebraska

40 Days for Life Outreach Director Sue Thayer spoke to a full house at the campaign kickoff event in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The leadership team in Lincoln rents an office across the street from the abortion facility and has “a perfect view of all that goes on.”

Most of the time, that is. “The snow is so deep that the windows are partially blocked,” Sue reported.

Of course, that’s no problem. For 40 days, the faithful prayer warriors in Lincoln won’t need the window. Undeterred by the snow, they’ll be keeping an eye on Planned Parenthood from the sidewalk.

Chester County, Pennsylvania

Lincoln wasn’t the only part of the country covered in snow for the start of the campaign. The Chester County campaign launch coincided with the beginning of a snowstorm!

“It did not dampen the prayers being offered for successful campaigns throughout the world,” Paulette in West Chester said.

With the community hosting its 23rd 40 Days for Life campaign, it will take a lot more than snow to keep the pro-life faithful away from the vigil!

Scripture and Prayer

In those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. — Acts 6:1

Father, in the Church’s desire to engage our communities with the Gospel, let us gain wisdom from those who have gone before us and cherish their experiences and perspectives. Help us to appreciate every soul in the body of Christ and minister properly to everybody.

DAY 3: Best day ever

March 8, 2019

Will Mississippi be the first abortion-free state?

I spoke at the kickoff event in front of the only remaining abortion facility in the state…and what a kickoff it was!

The former abortion doctor who opened Mississippi’s first-ever abortion facility joined the vigil on DAY 1!

Abortion supporters came out to mock our event. But as I watched the founder of the state’s FIRST abortion center praying in front of the state’s LAST abortion center, I knew the abortion industry’s days in Mississippi were numbered.

But it didn’t stop there! That same day, an abortion-bound mother stopped to talk with a 12-year-old, trained sidewalk counselor. Women are drawn to this holy soul!

The mom went inside for the abortion anyway, but she couldn’t get the young counselor out of her mind. So she went back outside to speak to the 12-year-old and to a local pastor, who directed her to the pregnancy center across the street. The woman become one of two mothers who chose life at the vigil in Jackson on DAY 1!

Two babies saved and a former abortion doctor at the vigil—as one pastor put it, “Jackson is blessed.”

This was my third trip over the last 11 years to the only remaining abortion facility in Mississippi, and the state is closer than ever to becoming abortion-free. Abortion-free states are the first step toward an abortion-free America, so pray for Mississippi!

40 Days for Life Updates

40 Days for Life kickoff events continue all week in cities around the world.

Westland, Michigan

Students for Life Regional Coordinator Kaylena Wiederhold was the keynote speaker for Westland, Michigan’s campaign launch.

Kaylena shared the dramatic story of her own birth in China, where her mother hid her pregnancy. Kim, the campaign leader in Westland, said Kaylena’s mother’s decision to choose life in China meant risking her own life.

Ultimately, Kaylena was born in a “garage-like structure” and placed for adoption!

Schenectady, New York

Nearly 100 people united to kick off Schenectady’s 19th 40 Days for Life campaign. The event made front-page news in the newspaper!

Larry in Schenectady was disappointed that the article described the attendees as anti-abortion rather than pro-life. “But it is amazing to see first page coverage.”

Featuring a tribute to a local pro-life hero who passed away and compelling talks from representatives of both Silent No More and Students for Life, the event brought a high-energy start to the campaign.

Scripture and Prayer

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? —Matthew 6:25-26

Loving heavenly Father, help us to see the worth of all human beings by the way in which you provide for us. We would ask that you provide also the faith, grace and courage to enable us to protect that which is so precious to you.

Did you read the posts?

Three babies were saved in the first day of prayer.

You are right that we need to elect more pro life representatives, though.

DAY 4: Advice from a demon

March 9, 2019

There’s one–and only one–key to making your involvement in 40 Days for Life fruitful: Entrust EVERYTHING to God.

But there are a variety of ways to RUIN your 40 Days for Life, and we review them on this week’s edition of The 40 Days for Life Podcast.

Titled “Uncle Screwtapes’s 7 steps to a useless 40 Days for Life campaign”, the episode (named after the classic C.S. Lewis demon) counts down the easiest ways to ruin your 40 Days for Life experience.

40 Days for Life Updates

London, England

The campaign in London, England is underway at the Marie Stopes abortion facility where the first British 40 Days for Life campaign was launched nearly a decade ago.

Though one passerby shouted, “Respect a woman’s choice!” it’s clear the campaign in the capital of the United Kingdom is making an impact.

Hundreds of babies have been saved outside this clinic,” said 40 Days for Life Director of International Campaigns Robert Colquhoun.”Most of the hours are already filled, which looks very encouraging.”

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

About 100 40 Days for Life participants in the Steel City braved frigid winter weather for a one-mile lighted balloon procession.

Planned Parenthood tries to discourage vigil participation by asking donors to “pledge a picketer.” (It’s always about money, isn’t it?)

But pro-lifers are not deterred. Participation in the local vigil spans more than 80 churches across the Pittsburgh area!

“Someone is always there from 7 am ’til 7 pm every day,” said Tim.

Scripture and Prayer

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” — Luke 1:30-33

Heavenly Father, you have made the womb of each woman a very special place. Help us to hold fast to the sanctity of this first home of humanity, remembering the wonderful mystery, that God inhabited the womb of a young woman and came forth as the savior and deliverer of the world.

Can’t get out to the vigil during the week? Why not go this weekend! There are 377 sites around the world.

DAY 5: 22 below zero

March 10, 2019

It was exactly ZERO degrees Fahrenheit for the 40 Days for Life kickoff rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin…

…and the wind chill was a bone-chilling 22 degrees below zero (-30 Celsius).

“Wisconsinites don’t cancel because of the cold,” said longtime 40 Days for Life leader and volunteer Dan Miller. “It’s a way of life here.”

That’s a good thing for unborn children. The sacrifice of praying for an hour or two in an arctic blast inspires more mothers to choose life.

When the opening vigil with Bishop Jeffrey Haines ended, Dan said a young woman appeared “out of nowhere” to hug September, who leads the campaign in Milwaukee.

“Do you remember me?” she asked.

With everybody bundled up for the weather, it was hard to tell who anybody was, so the young woman continued, “You walked me to my car [last year] and talked me out of having the abortion!”

“There was a lot of jumping up and down…hootin’ and hollerin’ and praising God!” Dan said. “These two were filled with so much joy; it was quite the sight!”

As 40 Days for Life volunteers in northern climates like to remind me, there’s no such thing as a “spring” 40 Days for Life campaign–only a winter one.

There were plenty of volunteers out in miserable weather this week.

Eugene, Oregon

“I just had to share this historic photo–snow showers in Eugene for our kickoff rally today!” said Eileen, the local campaign leader. “This has never happened before. And the photo only shows half of the people who came today to pray in the snow!”

Eileen said the event drew plenty of young people–including the leaders of a new pro-life group–while Planned Parenthood staff members watched from the windows. “We were all loving praying in the snow.”

Thousand Oaks, California

In Southern California, the Lenten 40 Days for Life campaign really does take place in springtime weather.

That’s why Leonore was so surprised when she and her vigil partner noticed SNOW! “There were little flakes flying about,” she said.

The snow didn’t last long. The record-breaking rain, however, did. “It warmed my heart to join three others holding signs and umbrellas,” Leonore said.

The King will answer and say to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” —Matthew 25:31-46

Gracious and merciful Father, we renew our dedication to defending the unborn and all whose right to life is compromised by our godless society’s selfish lack of concern. Free us from our own failures and sins so that we will be truly pro-life in every area of our lives.

DAY 7: Abortion quotas

March 12, 2019

Abortion is big business.

And the pressure to meet abortion sales quotas results in seedy sales tactics that end in the destruction of a baby.

In Fort Pierce, Florida, one frightened woman visited the abortion facility to find out how much an abortion would cost.

The price tag on her baby’s life? $500.

This mom wasn’t sure she wanted an abortion, so abortion facility staff members turned up the pressure. They offered her a discount–but only if she signed up right then and there for the abortion.

What’s next, “Abort now, and we’ll throw in a set of knives?”

The mother wasn’t quite ready to sign on the dotted line. That weekend, she went to church–where Fort Pierce 40 Days for Life volunteers were hosting a signup table. She took brochures from the volunteers, prayed on it, and chose life for her baby!

Abortion advocates justify abortion as a “thoughtful decision that no woman takes lightly.” But when push comes to shove, their primary concern is making the sale–even if that means resorting to tactics more fitting for a late-night “as seen on TV” infomercial.

Fortunately, in Fort Pierce, it didn’t work.

Many 40 Days for Life campaigns continue to persevere through difficult weather. Hang in there! Spring is coming.

Grand Rapids, Michigan

“We have had such faithful churches and individuals who have braved the bitter cold and snowy roads to pray for the most vulnerable in our city,” wrote the 40 Days for Life leadership team in Grand Rapids.

As the abortionist walked into work, he muttered under his breath, “When are you ever going to learn?” before glaring at the on-site sidewalk counselors.

That same day, the sidewalk counselors talked with the Stericycle truck driver, who had come to dispose of the remains of the babies aborted in Grand Rapids. One counselor even offered him a new job, but he didn’t respond.

“Through it all, we must continue to pray for the mothers, fathers, and babies,” wrote the leadership team.

Richmond, Virginia

“You would think that 7 AM on a very cold winter morning would NOT see a lot of people showing up to pray…” said Richmond coordinator Ann Niermeyer. “But you would be WRONG.”

About two dozen people came out for the vigil’s first hour. “Some people had been praying since the very first campaign in 2007, and some people came for the very first time.” Attendees were a mix of young and old volunteers, city dwellers and suburbanites, and at least six different Christian denominations.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. —Luke 4:18-19

Lord, send us to the poorest, the most broken, the most captive, the most blind and the most oppressed in the world, the innocent pre-born children in their mother’s wombs that are scheduled for destruction. Help us to bring them healing, liberty, sight and justice through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

DAY 8: “We pray for legal abortion”

March 13, 2019

Abortion is illegal in most of México…

…but that hasn’t stopped the abortion industry from attempting to impose abortion on México.

When President Trump defunded abortion providers abroad, Canada’s prime minister pledged $650 million toward organizations that perform or promote abortions internationally.

Fortunately, the people of México are standing up for life, their children, and their future.

In 2014, Lourdes Varela started the first 40 Days for Life campaign in México City–where abortion is legal. She then helped spread the campaign to dozens of cities across the country.

Lourdes is now our director of Latin American affairs. She just spent a week visiting 40 Days for Life vigils across México. Here’s her report from the road!

Texcoco, México

In Texcoco, Lourdes gave a talk about the abortion crisis and post-abortion syndrome.

When she finished, a woman asked to speak with her. “She said that she had an abortion 21 years ago and she hasn’t told anyone until now,” Lourdes reported. “Her family is falling apart, and she couldn’t stand the pain. When she saw us, she stopped by to pray. After she listened to my talk, she asked for help.”

Lourdes was able to work with the local campaign team to find the emotional and spiritual help this woman needs to find healing.

Irapuato, México

On day 1 of the campaign, a pregnant 14-year-old girl in Irapuato was being pushed to have an abortion by her boyfriend. In addition to that pressure, she was also terrified of admitting to her parents that she was pregnant.

The local 40 Days for Life team stormed Heaven with prayers that the young mom would choose life. With support from the prayer warriors and a priest in the community, she talked to her mother.

“Her mother told her that if the boyfriend did not want the baby, it won’t be a problem,” Lourdes said. “She promised that, as a grandmother, she will be there for her daughter and her grandchild!

Thank God for pro-life parents and grandparents!

Lindavista, México

March 8 is recognized as International Women’s Day. That led abortion supporters to hit the streets in Lindavista and hold signs reading, “Rezamos a favor del aborto legal” or “We pray for legal abortion.”

This sentiment also appeared in Tabacalera, México–where pro-abortion feminists held a march–and in México City, where police tried to force vigil participants off the streets. “But Anabel, the leader, showed the police officer the document from the authorities, and the officer left them in peace,” Lourdes reported.

Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So, too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. —Luke 10:30-34

Father, we are moved by the lesson of the Good Samaritan, who allowed compassion to influence him more than fear. Give us the same heart. Grant that we may never count the cost of standing up and speaking out for the unborn.

DAY 9: A surprise from Planned Parenthood

March 14, 2019

The abortion industry will do anything to keep women away from abortion alternatives.

Glendale, Arizona 40 Days for Life leader Tammy found that out on day 1. “Planned Parenthood had a surprise for us,” she said.

Shortly before the start of the campaign, the abortion facility planted 8-foot tall trees across the front of the property to separate abortion clients from anyone who might wish to offer life-affirming pregnancy options.

Last campaign, Planned Parenthood claimed land that had long been used as a public easement as its private property. Attorneys are examining the matter.

“They are practically imposing their own buffer zone,” Tammy said.

Fortunately, Planned Parenthood’s tactics aren’t working.

“We are still getting turnarounds!” Tammy reported. “Happened yesterday as a sidewalk counselor convinced a young couple to leave Planned Parenthood and go to a pregnancy center for [a] free ultrasound…Mom would’ve been in today for an abortion.”

Augusta, Maine

When the 40 Days for Life team in Augusta, Maine launched its first campaign a decade ago, Maine Family Planning started a “pledge-a-picketer” campaign. The effort included a big banner announcing the latest amount of money pledged to support the abortion facility.

“They told their supporters it would discourage us from being there,” said Janet, the Augusta leader.

This year the fundraiser is conspicuously absent.

“No banner. No mention of us on their blog,” Janet said. “It appears that as we enter our 10th year praying in front of their facility, they realize we are not going away.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville’s campaign leader, Jeff, learned that Thursday was the intake day for patients scheduling Saturday abortions.

“But they were not open Friday or Saturday,” Jeff said.

That means two days in which pre-born children and their mothers were safe from Planned Parenthood!

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. —John 1:14

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and saving grace in Christ Jesus. Help us to realize every day the great blessing we have in our Savior. I pray that we will rise every morning with excitement and zeal, looking forward to walking another day in your footsteps fully knowing that you continue to dwell among us.

Santa Teresa, New Mexico

“Parents walked out of the clinic saying they just couldn’t do it!” said Ester, the campaign coordinator in Santa Teresa.

That’s one confirmed baby saved…but Ester and her team believe there are many more children who have been spared from abortion. Typically, approximately 20 children are aborted every Saturday in Santa Teresa. This past weekend, however, they counted only 10.

Of course, that’s still 10 too many. But Ester and her team rejoice that about half the babies who might have otherwise lost their lives didn’t.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

“Mrs. C” in Harrisburg knows what it means to be pro-life. After all, she’s the mother of 15 children!

And if that’s not enough pro-life commitment, she also made time to come out and pray at the 40 Days for Life vigil.

If she can do it, you can too! Great job, Mrs. C!

Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. — Psalm 82:4

Father, may you empower the hundreds today who are serving in our pregnancy help centers. Grant those answering calls, providing ultrasound and following up with a bold spirit of truth, love and perseverance.
