Officials at the New York State Catholic Conference are calling the Reproductive Health Act worse than we thought it would be.
It foresees a time in New York where its a crime to be pro-life, said Kathleen Gallagher, director of pro-life activities and the Catholic Action Network for the conference, which is the public policy arm of the states Catholic bishops.
The measure, introduced in the Legislature the week of January 7, will expand access to abortion in the state, despite being promoted as simply codifying Roe v Wade. It not only increases access to abortion across the board, including late-term abortions, but also goes beyond Roe, which left some limits in place.
The Reproductive Health Act, or RHA, is known as S. 240 in the state Senate and A. 21 in the state Assembly.
The RHA is a great blow to the pro-life community, said Renee Morgiewicz, coordinator of Respect Life Ministry and parish services and for the Albany Diocese. Many people in New York state have successfully held off the legislation for 12 years.
In the past, a bipartisan Legislature has helped keep the RHA at bay. With regard to life issues, so far, the Republican Party has helped a lot with supporting the pro-life agenda, said Morgiewicz. Now, with a Democratic majority in the state Senate, many pro-life issues are anticipated to take a big hit particularly abortion.
The fact that weve held this off for 12 years gives me great comfort, Gallagher told The Evangelist, newspaper of the Albany Diocese. It means weve saved some human lives, and we saved women from anguish.

First it was “hate” crimes, now it is a thought or “belief” crime.
In the Last Days,What is right will be wrong, and wrong will be right
Andrew Cuomo is hopelessly reprobate.
Why hasnt he been excommunicated? Ok a rhetorical question from a Baptist
Rats sure do get a kick out of offing their spawn.
Hey, it worked for Mao.

Let them STEW IN THEIR SATANISM
LEAVE THEM.
Please God, give our governments bankruptcy
They are all building massive piles of debt anyway to sustain their forced, statist, progressive social-engineering schemes.
So let that mountain of debt collapse and crush them all.
So with that headline can anyone be removed from the gene-pool retroactively?
I was at the NYS capital yesterday lobbying for this bill to not pass. The PP crowd was no bigger than ours but they received ALL the press. We were ignored as if we were not there.
Very scary that many were black women, oblivious to the fact that Sanger was a eugenicist and black preborn babies are killed at a horrific rate.
Our posters read “Late term children feel pain” and several women came up to me and said - they can’t feel pain.
Now, it is obvious that late term children can feel pain - yet - clearly these women were parroting a lie that they had been fed and they believed the lie wholeheartedly.
White snowflakes (female) of college age were there also.
These are scary times, so many are in thrall to the lies that one must consider that they are brainwashed due to their complete act of ability to think logically.
This is the very same Governor who once said, Pro-Lifers should not be allowed to live in his State!
Will Cardinal Dolan still allow this pig to receive the Blessed Sacrament? Probably.
Bishop Scharfenberger [Albany, NY Diocese] has had nothing to say regarding the RHA, but he attended the March for Life, and the diocesan website invites readers to participate in a novena ‘NINE DAYS FOR LIFE’ (January 14-22 2019).
Why then, does he not publicly state that Cuomo will be denied Holy Communion in his diocese?
We don’t expect any help from the Vatican, or Cardinal Dolan. So Bishop Scharfenberger is guilty of dereliction of his duty, just like the rest of the Church ‘leadership’.
“Bishop Scharfenberger is guilty of dereliction of his duty...”
Sadly, you are right. At least the Bishop is attending the March this year and he is saying a mass.
The Bishop needs to issue loud and clear declarative statements directly targeting the politicians voting for this legislation and not let them receive communion in his diocese.
For example, Patricia Fahy, D - 109th district voted yes for the abortion expansion bill and she is “catholic”. The Bishop must forbid communion to these types and then it is imperative that he enforce it.
He does more than many Bishops, but delegates much to the laity as far as respect life committees, etc. Instead, the Bishop needs to use his office to publicly decry these abominations from the pulpit and in the Diocesan and secular newspapers.
Perhaps the Catholic Church leaders should take a break from their full time job of paying off the pedophile victims and denounce this pro-abortion policy.
