The political correct police really would sicken you these days.
One of the countrys best known hospitals, Our Lady of LOURDES hospital in Drogheda, Co. Louth is reportedly getting a new name after it emerged that the name Lourdes may be offensive to non-Catholics.
According to an article in Drogheda Life, the General Manager of the hospital, wrote to all staff members this week with their intention, as part of the Senior Management Strategic Plan for Quarter 1, 2019, to change the name of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda to one of the following:
1. University Hospital Drogheda
2. Drogheda Regional Hospital
3. Drogheda General Hospital
It just so happens that a member of the Liberal team knows numerous people very well in Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital so on hearing this, today we decided to contact some of them to see what they had to think about the proposal.
We wanted to find out what people working in the hospital thought of the proposal and why all of a sudden the need to change a beautiful name that the entire town of Drogheda, neighbouring town of Dundalk and every village and townland in the county knows so well.
Its an absolute joke. Its because theres a Catholic connotation in the name. The entire county calls it simply The Lourdes irrespective of religion. No one is offended working here no matter what religion they are.
Another said I heard that some non Catholics wanted the name changed in case people coming into the hospital who arent Catholic would be offended but I was genuinely surprised when management decided to take the offence seriously.
The third person, all of whom preferred to not be named in print for fear of retribution, said: Its political correct cr*p.

i am not bothered either way but..
most Christians and Jews aren’t bothered by such things...
our local hospital (which is getting more and more public tax money) carries a RCC saint’s name
and NOBODY has EVER said anything seriously against it
(no doubt as more and more public funds are needed, some politician will eventually seek a name change to...what?
Saint Secular’s Repair Pit?
how about those of us who are grossly offended by highways and streets and public parks being renamed for seditionists and enemies of our country, or just socialists ?
In Boston we have St.Elizabeth’s,Beth Israel Deaconess, and New England Baptist among others.
No complaints——so far.
.
understood!
there will be complaints eventually, at least from some leftwing commie pinko socialist Nazi type political hacks
probably 80 percent of the voters are happy with the current names, as everyone realizes that such hopsitals were started and may still be run or assisted by the religous faith communities in question... AND of course all hospitals treat patients of any relgious persuasion
maybe 15% would sort of like to see name changes but understand and won’t do anything actually to force new names
that leaves just a handful of agitators
the agitators will evetually win, tho, imho
to me, there are some things that are far more important than other things
limiting or reducing abortions are, imho, more critical than what hospital name is
but I do think that if RCC or any other church or religious group is providing the medical service, or helping pay for it in any big way, then some recognition is appropriate for sure!

How about those Potholes in the streets?
Shouldn’t they be called Front Holes, or Back Holes?
“the agitators will evetually win, tho, imho”
I’m afraid you are right——tyranny by the minority is certainly alive and well today.

Without doing any research, I would venture to say that most U.S.hospitals were founded by Catholic orders of nuns. Our Catholic hospital back home actually still has some nurses and management who are nuns, a situation that is becoming increasingly rare. When I was a child, all their management, and many of the nurses, were nuns. When I worked there, over 20 years ago, there was a nun who was about 80, who had been given retirement, but she wouldn’t accept it. So she spent her days visiting patients. She told me that she just couldn’t stay away, she’d been there most of her adult life, and loved it so much.
we have several RCC-founded hospitals (our closest one and another I can think of are going out of business unless the taxpayers pick up the check now...alas!)
in addition, some other religious groups have built, funded, or run a number of hospitals (Seventh Day Adventist, Jewish, and you can find some Lutheran Methodist and Presbyterian hospitals too, probably more kinds also)
speaking of nuns, it is a crying shame they appear to be dying out .... we have a local college that used to have many classes taught by sisters.... and then after the years went by only a handful of very elderly ones... and now I am told there are near Zero.... also, they were not provided any retirement funding the last I heard a few years ago... maybe it got fixed but at that time it was pretty dire sounding
why there aren’t more young nuns and young priests ?
it is a shame
What happened to Ireland?
It wasn’t all that long ago that the Irish were well-known for their devotion to their Catholic faith. As late as the mid-1990’s, divorce was illegal in Ireland. But the Irish overwhelmingly voted recently to legalize baby murder, and now they’re renaming Catholic institutions.
It took only one generation for Ireland’s population to abandon a faith that it had maintained for more than a millennium.
My father was very ill and traveled to Lourdes. It was a very transformative experience in his life. when he was in his final days the doctors wanted to remove his Lourdes medal from his neck. he didnt want the medal removed even though his many tubes in his neck made it difficult to administer medical techniques. The doctors taped the medal to his chest and It meant the world to him that a compromise was reached.
why there arent more young nuns and young priests ?
it is a shame
Makes my blood boil. Stinking rotten Muslim pigs.
GREAT!
yes, the docs CAN often find reasonable compromises
we just gotta speak up is all

MLK Boulevard?
some mysteries are fine some are ok but... it is a crying shame to visit a college founded by sisters and learn that they only have 3 or 4 left, all I think over 80, and (a couple years ago when I checked there) their residences or retirement funds were in trouble
I would think that SOME young folks would want to become priests brothers or nuns
anyways, no need to explain I hear a lot about this all the time and of course also read the articles, reports....
thanks for your concern, its appreciated!
Merry Christmas,
fhc
“What happened to Ireland?”
Don’t they know how to say feck you anymore?
There are many but only in the orthodox orders, they don't want to throw their lives away on lukewarm Catholicism.
