What Is Truth?

Bob Bollman delivers a message about the nature of truth, how to seek it, and how the Church can transmit it to the world.

A timely post. So many churches today have abandoned truth in a misguided attempt to avoid offending anyone. In the larger sense, truth is what is real; in other words, reality. And since God has created reality, he alone is the arbiter of what is true.

Therefore, to ignore or distort what is true is to ignore reality, or in the extreme to be completely disconnected from it, which is the definition of insanity. Is it any wonder then that so many today are consumed with literally insane, bizarre behavior and beliefs? They have literally lost touch with reality because they have rejected truth and the author of truth.

People make fun of Jack Chick, and he did have some wacky beliefs, but the meme generated from his comic panel illustrating Galatians 4:16 illustrated an important point.

Have I now therefore become your enemy by telling you the truth?

The world despised Jesus because he revealed the truth, and was the truth, as they hated his Apostles.

Things haven't changed in 2 millennia.

I think that’s also why so many on the left today work obsessively to destroy every normal and decent value, tradition, or institution. The truth embodied by these things is a constant reminder to the deviant and rebellious that their practices are morally wrong. They could heed the truth, realize that they have sinned, and seek forgiveness and transformation, but unfortunately many instead choose to try to destroy any reminder of the truth in order to dull their consciences.

Of course, it goes even deeper than that because Jesus is the embodiment of truth (“...the way, the truth, and the life...”). By rejecting truth they are rejecting Him as well. I think that the 1,001 ways that liberalism seems to manifest itself really all stem from the same source: rebellion against God. Modern-day terms like “progressivism” or “new age” are nothing but attempts to rebrand what is in actuality the same age-old paganism that has been opposing God and His created order since the beginning of time.

Yes, Bollman goes over this in his message.

Pilate zeroed in on the central question, but because he was ruled by his subjective, worldly philosophy, he wasn't able to recognize the truth for what it was/is.
