Reading 1 WIS 2:12, 17-20
The wicked say: Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings, reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with violations of our training. Let us see whether his words be true; let us find out what will happen to him. For if the just one be the son of God, God will defend him and deliver him from the hand of his foes. With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his patience. Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own words, God will take care of him.
Responsorial Psalm PS 54:3-4, 5, 6 AND 8
R. (6b) The Lord upholds my life.
O God, by your name save me,
and by your might defend my cause.
O God, hear my prayer;
hearken to the words of my mouth.
R. The Lord upholds my life.
For the haughty men have risen up against me,
the ruthless seek my life;
they set not God before their eyes.
R. The Lord upholds my life.
Behold, God is my helper;
the Lord sustains my life.
Freely will I offer you sacrifice;
I will praise your name, O LORD, for its goodness.
R. The Lord upholds my life.
Reading 2 JAS 3:164:3
Beloved: Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace.
Where do the wars and where do the conflicts among you come from? Is it not from your passions that make war within your members? You covet but do not possess. You kill and envy but you cannot obtain; you fight and wage war. You do not possess because you do not ask. You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
They are all appropriate!
It really jumped out at me. I know it’s primarily a reference to the Messiah, to the “suffering servant”, who was and is Jesus. It also applies to the sufferings and trials in our own lives. And it is surely true that the leftist find people like Judge Kavanaugh obnoxious, because his life and his work convicts them.
Excellent passages in scripture and very fitting. Let us pray these in faith knowing and proclaiming God has got this. Praise Him in faith for new SC justice Kavanaugh. No weapon formed against him shall prosper.
...”I heard these passages this morning, thought them very appropriate.”...
They are very appropriate. The Christian Bible has been written for all men of all times and what we are seeing played out before our very eyes is nothing new for human beings who want to cheat and lie for the purpose of taking what someone else has worked and sacrificed for. Modern man/woman who do not want to follow rules think they can avoid the consequences of that, but, in the end, what goes around comes around.
We are witnessing a battle between good and evil.
May God protect Judge Kavanaugh and his family.
Beautiful and inspiring! I feel Judge kavanuagh is representing all God fearing Americans who are facing this injustice with him! May the truth be revealed ..and may Ford’s house of demonic cards come crumbling down starting tomorrow!!! My she and her cohorts be put to shame!! My God reveal his loving ALMIGHTYmercy and help towards Mr kavanuagh!
9.You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”
...and deliver us from evil
“Do not fear.”
“I am with you always.”
May the traps set for the righteous man ensnare the wicked ones instead.
Also appropriate to the current situation.
What book is 1 WIS?
The text may be found, among other places, at the Bible Gateway
It’s one of the books that got cut during the Reformation. Hence some people don’t have the complete Bible.
Well then, I sure don’t. Nice to know after all these many years..Never even heard it referred to.
Amen and second it.
Only Catholic and Orthodox Bibles carry this OT book.
I’d say the most applicable scripture to this situation is the story of Joseph and Potiphor’s wife.
Also accepted as a reading though not read yesterday, the passage about Daniel in the lions den.
