When selecting the topics for this article, I had choices like "Religion and Culture," "Religion and Politics," etc. but I would have liked a topic choice of "Religion and Mental Health."

Here L'Espresso's Sandro Magister juxtaposes several memorable self-contradictions in Pope Francis' public life and leaves us with the memorable question, "WTTF?"("What the Tutti-Frutti?": My translation from the Italian, ha.)

I mean what is going on? It doesn't suffice to say PF is a "liar," since if he is, he is not a very good one. He does not lie competently. He seems to not notice when he is directly, even dramatically contradicting himself.

It would be mere Peronism if he were just shading things differently for different audiences. But it seems to go further than the usual political fraudswallop. It appears he's not quite in control of his thought processes.

I thought early on that he might have a brain lesion. Then I discarded that hypothesis and went for the idea that he is just cynically assuming that most people have the attention span of gnats and would not remember that he said "A" on Monday and "B" on Tuesday.

But as the indispensable Sandro Magister points out, PF has been known to flip, flop, and totally befuddle between one sentence and the next.

So what do you think? Peronism or Tutti-Frutti?

Or something else?

Francis couldn't have been an unknown quantity to those who 'elected" him...save some of your frustration for others in high positions.

Been praying for you and others that the Church cleans its own swamps and gets to the business of carrying the Word.
