BREAKING: Washington Cardinal Wuerl going to Rome to discuss resignation with Pope

WASHINGTON, September 11, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – In a letter released today to priests of the Archdiocese of Washington, Cardinal Donald Wuerl has informed them that he intends, “in the very near future, to go to Rome to meet with our Holy Father about the resignation I presented nearly three years ago, November 12, 2015.”

"It was clear that some decision, sooner rather than later, on my part is an essential aspect” of moving forward, the letter said.

The embattled Cardinal of Washington has been under the spotlight since the revelations of sexual abuse of his predecessor Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. Cardinal Wuerl’s denial of any knowledge of the allegations against McCarrick has been blasted even by other bishops as not credible. These criticisms were heightened last month when Wuerl featured prominently in the Pennsylvania grand jury report as playing a role in covering up for predator priests while serving as bishop of Pittsburgh.

There have been numerous calls for his resignation.

The explosive testimony of Archbishop Viganò, the former papal representative to the United States, called out Wuerl for lying about the McCarrick affair. Viganò claimed that Pope Francis covered up for McCarrick, giving him honors and responsibilities, despite having detailed knowledge of his abuse of seminarians and priests.

I didn’t read anything about “surrendering to the proper authorities so that I may do a term in prison for my crimes” in that letter.

The Holy Spirit is at work. Keep bombarding Our Heavenly Father with prayers that these wayward prelates resign and repent. And we should examine our own lives and shore up ourselves.

Question is, is he coming back, or staying over there to avoid arrest/prosecution.

Nonsense. Wuerl may likely burn in Hell for eternity, but what crime has he committed? Abp. Vigano says Pope Francis and Cdl. Wuerl knew of Cdl. McCarrick’s depraved homosexual orgies and sexual harassment, but alas, in our libertine nation, these are not crimes. Abp. Vigano did NOT allege that Pope Francis or Cdl. Wuerl knew of McCarrick’s abuse of children.

This breaks my heart. I loved to watch masses from The Basilica in Washington. “Even if the forces of darkness appear to prevail, those who believe in God know that evil and death do not have the final say.” -Saint John Paul II on September 12, 2001

Even though he should, I think Frannie has too big of an ego to resign.

He could also kill himself. It would just as wholesome an action before God as all of this was.

He’s one of many sickos in the hierarchy.

Of course not. He “intends to go to Rome” so he, like fellow perpetrator Cardinal Law, can escape and evade the long arm of US law. We have no extradition with the Vatican. Wuerl can live out his days in quiet opulence, free from all worry about facing the natural consequences of his crimes.

US authorities better apprehend this felon now, or it will forever be too late. Once he is gone he’s not returning.

What he needs to do is retire to a monastery and spend the rest of his life in prayer and penance. I would recommend eating nothing but bread and water, and spending his waking hours on his knees in prayer.

Arrest him at the airport.

LOL In Boston the state troopers tried to serve Cardinal Law. His housekeepers claimed he wasn't there. The next day Cardinal was flying, first class, out of the US to Italy via Al Italia.
