The pope himself is unclean in all this and should not forget his nasty priests in Mexico.

“Clericalism”....... where clergy see themselves as political power brokers. The Church projects an image of power and privilege, and the role of the laity is seen in a passive “pray and obey” manner.

Also ‘clericalism’ can refer to a clerical “culture of secrecy” in which misbehavior or illegal activities are tacitly encouraged – or at least widespread – to the point where any priest who would consider becoming a critic or whistle-blower risks self-destruction. Thus, exposure is a remote possibility.

The problem of clericalism is composed of several problems. It is the problem of ‘a caste that arrogates to itself undue authority’...that makes unwarranted claims to wisdom, even to having a monopoly on understanding the mind of God..... The consequence is the great weakening of the Church by denigrating or excluding the many gifts of the Spirit present in the people who are the Church. The problem of clericalism arises when “the church” acts in indifference, or even contempt, toward the people who are the Church.

So the Pope is passing the buck....

The Pope is distracting by using ‘Clericalism’ as what allows the laity and Priesthood within the church, to distract from, and cover up for, rampant criminal activity and child abuse.

As long as laypeople allow themselves to be manipulated no child will be safe in the confessional and bishops will continue to enable and protect the predator Priests. It’s really up to the laity to act...

Pope Francis is just repeating his worn out tune as he has all along....below in 2014....

“Clericalism is one of the evils of the Church. ... Priests take pleasure in the temptation to clericalize the laity, but many of the laity are on their knees asking to be clericalized, because it is more comfortable!
