The Jewish Heart - The Secret of Elul (and Esau and America)

Today was the 1st of Elul, the month when the King is in the field.

The Jewish Heart - The Secret of Elul

>>>

How is the image of the heart, as we most commonly know it, the symbol for this passionate experience of love?

The month that we are now in, Elul, is the key to unlocking the inner and most potent meaning of the heart. As is well known, the Hebrew letters that make the word “Elul,” aleph, lamed, vav and lamed, are an acronym for the phrase (from the biblical Song of Songs) ani l’dodi v’dodi li, which means “I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me.”

This beautiful and romantic phrase is that which represents our relationship with our Creator, which is often paralleled to that of a husband and wife, a bride and groom, in our individual lives.

The Zohar explains that at the beginning of Elul we are achor el achor, meaning “back to back,” and by the end of Elul we are panim el panim, “face to face.” But how can it be that we are back to back? Wouldn’t that imply that G-d has His back turned to us as well? How can we say such a thing, when this is the month in which—as chassidic master Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi teaches us—“the King is in the field”? Is it not the month when G-d is more accessible than ever, when He is waiting for us to greet Him, when He is there for us in the “field” of our everyday lives?

<<<

In Hebrew, the word for heart is lev, which is spelled lamed-beit. Rabbi Abraham Abulafia, in the year 1291, wrote a manuscript by the name of Imrei Shefer, in which he defines the meaning of the heart.

Rabbi Abulafia teaches that the word lev, lamed–beit, needs to be understood as two lameds. This is because the letter beit is the second letter in the alphabet, and is numerically equivalent to two. So he explains that the word needs to be read and understood as “two lameds.”

But it is not enough to have two lameds. As Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh explains, in order for their to be a relationship, the two lameds need to be connected. They need to be face to face. When we turn around the second lamed to face the first, we form the image of the Jewish Heart (as seen in the picture at the beginning of this article). While the heart, as we are used to seeing it, is quite clear in this form, an entirely new part of the heart is also revealed.

https://www.chabad.org/theJewishWoman/article_cdo/aid/424441/jewish/The-Jewish-Heart.htm

Picture from the article of the two lameds face-to face:

Oddly enough, not mentioned in the above article is that the Jewish heart is the secret of Elul in that "Jewish heart" = 67 = Elul

Hine ma tov uma nayim (with lyrics)

From

Psalm 133

1. A Song of Maalot of David; Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity:
2. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that runs down upon the beard, Aaron's beard, that runs down to the hem of his garments:
3. Like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore:

AM ECHAD LEV ECHAD-KOL ISRAEL (One People One Heart - All Israel)

"Kol Israel achim" - all Israel are brothers:

Exo 25

18. And you shall make two kerubim of gold, of hammered workmanship shall you make them, in the two ends of the cover:
19. And make one kerub on one end, and the other kerub on the other end; of the cover shall you make the kerubim on its two ends:
20. And the kerubim shall stretch out their wings on high, covering the cover with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the cover shall the faces of the kerubim be:

"and their faces shall look one to another"

וּפְנֵיהֶם אִישׁ אֶל־אָחִיו

The sum is 558, the same as Jacob (יעקב) + Esav (עשו): 182 + 376

lit.

and their faces are a man toward his brother

and their faces (presence) is a man (ופניהם איש) = 502

502 = Hebrew "I love you" (spoken by a man; for example, a man to his brother)

Our Sages used a somewhat cryptic phrase to transmit the mitzvah to get drunk at the Purim meal: "Michayev inish livsumei befuraya ad delo yada bein arur Haman levaruch Mordechai" -- "A man is obligated to get drunk on Purim until he doesn't know between 'cursed is Haman' and 'blessed is Mordechai'" (Megillah 7b). A careful examination of the phrase shows that it is based on the hierarchy of sensations explained above.

>>>

3. "Between 'cursed is Haman' and 'blessed is Mordechai'" -- this occurs when we rise above the level of smell and hearing, and have a clear view from above. When we rise above the root of evil and perceive the Divine plan in its entirety, then there is no longer any difference between Haman's curse and Mordechai's blessing -- both are part of God's plan for human history. (Note that "arur Haman" - cursed is Haman, and "baruch Mordechai" - blessed is Mordechai, have the same gematria: 502.) This is why God wipes out Amalek's memory from under the heavens (in the verse cited above) -- because above the heavens there is no need for this.

http://www.aish.com/h/pur/t/dt/48944556.html

Above the heavens.

Esav was angry with Jacob for stealing away his blessing. Volcanic temper: he blew his top and set his mind to kill Jacob. Haman was the descendant of Esav, Mordecai the descendant of Jacob.

Because of the blessing swap, Jacob received the dew of heaven (Gen 27:28). Esav, in turn, received the dew of heaven above (Gen 27:39). He obviously was not paying attention. All one giant misunderstanding.

The account begins with the very first Purim costume:

Gen 27

15. And Re-bekah took the best garments of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son:
16. And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

22. And Jacob went near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau:
23. And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him:
24. And he said, Are you really my son Esau? And he said, I am:

Esav is known as "Esav ha-Rasha", Esav the Wicked (evil one).

When we rise above the root of evil and perceive the Divine plan in its entirety, then there is no longer any difference between Haman's curse and Mordechai's blessing -- both are part of God's plan for human history.

When we rise above the root of evil and perceive the Divine plan in its entirety, then there is no longer any difference between Esav's curse and Jacob's blessing - both are part of God's plan for human history.

502:

Cursed be Haman
Blessed be Mordecai
"I love you"
Esav spelled out (ayin shin vav)
basar (glad tidings/good news, flesh... the modern word for meat)
"and their faces is a man"

***

Back to the "secret of Elul" being the Jewish heart, the lameds face-to-face, which is the letter that soars above the line.

The letters of the word Elul spell out this unification - alef lamed vav lamed (אלול)

alef (one, unity): lamed vav ("and") lamed

The letter lamed = 30, the same as Yehuda (יהודה) .

lamed vav lamed = 30 + 6 + 30 = 66, the "son of David" (בן דוד)

Elul is the month when the King is in the field.

Gen 25.27. And the boys grew; and Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents:

Elul is a month of 29 days. When they are all added up, the sum of the days is 435 (1 + 2 + 3 + 4... + 29)

Elul = 67

All the days of Elul, when the king is in the field = 435 (cf. the 8 days of Chanukah adding to 36, because 435 = Yehudit (יהודית), the woman who saved the day.)

67 (Elul, binah, a Jewish heart) + 435 = 502

502, therefore, sums up the month of Elul, day to day, beginning to end:

The Zohar explains that at the beginning of Elul we are achor el achor, meaning “back to back,” and by the end of Elul we are panim el panim, “face to face.”

The end is at "502", when the man can say to his brother, "I love you."

Jacob to Esav: "I love you."
Esav to Jacob: "I love you"

All Israel are brothers. When the end of the Torah is connected to the beginning, when the readings are put together, Parsha no. 54 is followed immediately by the 1st: 54...1.

541 = Israel, the last word of the Torah.

Actually the last two words are "All Israel"

54 joined to 1 is 541:

"All Israel In the beginning"

The last letter of the Torah is a lamed; the first is a bet: lamed - bet = heart.

Zech 14:16. And it shall come to pass, that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against JerUSAlem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Booths:

"Feast of Booths" chag ha-sukkot = 502

Parashat Vezot Haberakhah is the 54th weekly Torah portion in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading.

"And this is the blessing" "In the Beginning" - vezot haberakhah bereshith:

Like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore:

***

America (the head of Esav, which ended up in the Cave of the Patriarchs, the 4th head/Patriarch).

Birthday: July 4th, 1776 (17th of Tammuz 5536)

Year 5536 (ה' תקל"ו) = 5 + 536 = 541
1776 ft = 541 m

The 4th of July in Hebrew:

ה-ד ביולי

The sum is 67. The letters rearrange to"a Jewish heart":

לב יהודי

the blessing, life for evermore:

Gen 3:22. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of us knowing good and evil; and now, what if he puts forth his hand, and takes also from the tree of life, and eats, and lives forever:

The cave of the Patriarchs is known as the gateway to Gan Eden, Paradise (PaRDeS). A pardes is an orchard.

There’s more to Rabbi Schneur Zalman’s parable: When Elul concludes, G-d returns to the palace. On His throne, access is granted by appointment only. Garnering His attention might prove more difficult.

So why not approach the King now when he’s in the field, or when you’re at the office, in school, in a store, or on what you thought was just a leisurely stroll through an orchard.

The King is in the Apple Orchard

It was the deaf son of Dan (Hushim, which permutes to Mashiach) who lopped off Esav's head, causing it to roll into the entrance of Gan Eden. It's an interesting visual paradox, goalies with flaming swords oblivious to what's rolling around on the ground. It's so hard to find good help these days.

... when we rise above the level of smell and hearing, we have a clear view from above.

PaRDeS (Jewish Exegesis):

"Pardes" refers to (types of) approaches to biblical exegesis in rabbinic Judaism or to interpretation of text in Torah study. The term, sometimes also spelled PaRDeS, is an acronym formed from the same initials of the following four approaches:

Peshat (פְּשָׁט) – "surface" ("straight") or the literal (direct) meaning.[1]
Remez (רֶמֶז) – "hints" or the deep (allegoric: hidden or symbolic) meaning beyond just the literal sense.
Derash (דְּרַשׁ) – from Hebrew darash: "inquire" ("seek") – the comparative (midrashic) meaning, as given through similar occurrences.
Sod (סוֹד) (pronounced with a long O as in 'lore') – "secret" ("mystery") or the esoteric/mystical meaning, as given through inspiration or revelation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pardes_(Jewish_exegesis)

The well-known teaching about the sod level (which relates to Purim and the drinking), is that "the wine goes in and the secret comes out", because wine (יין) = secret (סוד) = 70.

Peshat, remez, and drash... then the sod which is equated with wine. Perhaps it is out there somewhere, but I haven't seen where yayin is swapped with sod in an exegesis acronym. It seems odd, considering how much commentary is devoted to the subject of wine = secret. So maybe I've just missed it.

My interest involves the following analogs in particular:

Hebron is called the "city of four", traditionally understood as the place where the four couples are buried in the cave (Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Leah). But Esav completes the four heads i.e. the four Avot, Patriarchs. Adam is the first soul, the head of them all.

And The Cave of the Patriarchs is the gateway to PaRaDiSe. Where the head soul (Adam) is located, along with the four heads. Three heads are the names and bodies of the three Patriarchs, but then there is also the disembodied head of Esav - an account from the midrash.

Considering the location of the cave and who is in it, there are parallels here:

10. And a river [Adam] went out from Eden to water the garden; and from there it (he) was divided, and became four heads:
11. The name of the first [ha-echad] is Pishon [Abraham]; that is the one which flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold:
12. And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone:
13. And the name of the second river is Gihon [Isaac]; that is the one which flows around the whole land of Kush:
14. And the name of the third river is the Tigris [Jacob]; that is the one which flows toward the east of Assyria; And the fourth river is the Euphrates [Esav]:
15. And the Lord God took the man [Adam], and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and to keep it:

The 3rd and 4th share the same verse. The first three rivers are introduced by name, whereas the Euphrates is not.

The Euphrates is described in other passages as the "great river". The Hiddekel/Tigris is so described in Daniel 10.

And a river went out from Eden to water the garden; and from there it (he) was divided (יפרד)*, and became four heads:

*
yud: yayin
pei: pshat
resh: remez
dalet: drash

These are the four heads - the "four approaches"- when the wine = secret, placed first not last..

Jerusalem of Gold:

אויר הרים צלול כיין
וריח אורנים
נישא ברוח הערביים
עם קול פעמונים

Mountain air, clear as wine. With the scent of pines...

Ever been to the Pine Tree State?

It's from wine, "מיין", the location of the Ohr Rishon. Here's where that goes:

Ohr Rishon (אור ראשון) = 764 = hydropower, lit. water energy א"מ אם (אנרגיית מים) = tohu v'vohu v'choshekh:

1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth:
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep; And a wind from God moved upon the face of the waters:
3. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light:

Collecting the sparks:

Hydropower or water power (from Greek: ύδωρ, "water") is power derived from the energy of falling water or fast running water, which may be harnessed for useful purposes. Since ancient times, hydropower from many kinds of watermills has been used as a renewable energy source for irrigation and the operation of various mechanical devices, such as gristmills, sawmills, textile mills, trip hammers, dock cranes, domestic lifts, and ore mills. A trompe, which produces compressed air from falling water, is sometimes used to power other machinery at a distance.[1][2]

In the late 19th century, hydropower became a source for generating electricity...

...Since the early 20th century, the term has been used almost exclusively in conjunction with the modern development of hydroelectric power.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydropower

Tigris (Hiddekel) = "rapid"; Euphrates = "fruitfulness"

The two great rivers. Fruitfulness = productivity. Same root consonants are seen in the English back to the Hebrew. F-R-T, P-R-T, P-R-D

Esav is the "doer" of the family, even if he has spent an inordinant amount of time spinning his wheels or worse. Imagine if he were instead occupied with chesed.

I suppose it's like Adam failing in his mission. He was able to rectify his own mess by giving to David 70 years of his life. Esav needs a way to make it up to Jacob. It's the only way.

Speaking of wheels,

Ezekiel and chashmal: Ezekiel saw wheels and their work that "looked like Tarshish". Rota, Spain - aka the "Gateway to the Med" and home to the 6th fleet - is considered to be the ancient Phoenician port of Tarshish to which Jonah attempted to flee from the presence (face) of the Lord. Rota is located outside the Pillars of Hercules, the boundary of the ancient world. Or so people assume. The maps depicted scary monsters beyond, the theory being that traders had a vested interest in dissuading potential competitors.

Rota is Latin for wheel. Ezekiel would know that, having lived there a few years. Ezekiel saw wheels and their work that looked like Rota: outside the normal boundaries, limits.

I love maps. Four directions and all that.

Ezekiel 1

15 Now as I looked at the living creatures, behold, a wheel was on the earth beside each living creature with its four faces. 16 The appearance of the wheels and their workings was like the color of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 17 When they moved, they went toward any one of four directions; they did not turn aside when they went. 18 As for their rims, they were so high they were awesome; and their rims were full of eyes, all around the four of them.

The Addition of the Kollel

Sometimes, in finding the numerical equivalent of a word, we increase the total by one. Rav Y.A. Chver in Pitchei Sh'arim explains that in such cases the root of a word is still attached to the upper worlds, and therefore dependent upon them. When we add the kollel (=1), we thereby note the word's unique connection and dependence Above.

(Building Blocks of the Soul, pg. 299)

R'osh (ראש), head = 501

When we add the kollel:

"I love you", spoken by a man. 502

This is also the sum of ages of the three Patriarchs (heads):

Abraham: 175
Isaac: 180
Jacob: 147

These are the same through which the verb "to love" is initially expressed in the Torah. The pattern/order of occurances of their love match the letters of ahav (אהב):

alef - 1x (Abraham's love for Isaac)
hei - 5x (Isaac's love of Rebecca, Esav, and Esav's food)
bet - 2x (Jacob's love for Rachel)

Highway 60 is the sum of two lameds face to face. 30 + 30. It's known as the "Way of the Patriarchs", named for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Another detail is that the next occurance of the verb is when Leah says [upon the birth of Reuben], "Now therefore my husband will love me."

Her husband was supposed to be Esav.

There is a teaching from the Talmud which says that forty days before a baby is conceived a voice cries out from Heaven and announces, "the son of so-and-so is destined for the daughter of so-and-so!" Before their souls were sent into the physical world they were united as one in the Heavenly realms and as they grow and mature, they begin to become aware of the part of their soul that is missing, their "other half", as the term has been coined. The intrinsic desire to attach and cleave to another comes not from the brain's deep desire to feel validation, worthiness and importance but from the soul's yearning to feel complete in this world. That is why the urge and need to become one with another is so powerful that it overcomes the senses. It is something that the soul cannot survive without.

https://www.chabad.org/theJewishWoman/article_cdo/aid/947888/jewish/Finding-Your-Soul-Mate.htm

Leah (36) + Esav (376) = 412 (house)

Hmmm.

When we add the kollel (=1), we thereby note the word's unique connection and dependence Above.

It's what Buzz Aldrin said moments before the Eagle landed on the moon, in the Sea of Tranquility:

"413 is in."

Shalom in the home.

Subject: לֵב The heart and consciousness

Science thinks consciousness is in the brain

CHAPTER III

These three mothers did he create, form, and design...

That's some fascinating info in that video. You reminded me of the word m'rosh, "from the head":

  א
מ ר ש

Not only is the gematria 541 the same as Israel, but also when set up like in the above diagram, the three mother letters form a triangle with the letter resh (head) as the center (the heart). Well, the best I can lay out with the font placement. The points of the mountain spell em (mother) on one side, esh (fire) on the other, and shem (name) at the base.

We see the word here in this important vision from Bilaam:

Num 23.9. For from the top (m'rosh) of the rocks (tzurim) I see him, and from the hills I behold him; lo, the people shall live alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations:

I'm going to have to research the pineal gland he describes:

The pineal gland is a small endocrine gland in the brain of animals with backbones. The pineal gland produces melatonin, a serotonin-derived hormone which modulates sleep patterns in both circadian and seasonal cycles. The shape and size of the gland make it resemble a pine nut, inferring its name.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pineal_gland

While the Hebrew for the gland is a descriptive phrase not a transliteration, the English name is awfully similar to Peniel, the face (presense) of God, which is the Shekinah.

pineal, pineel, Peniel

Gen 32.31. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for I have seen God face to face, and my nefesh is preserved:

That place being the place where Jacob was named Israel.

There you go, the circuit connects itself on multiple levels, as the nefesh is the animal soul that is the moving, living body - the soul of the life blood flowing around in a circuit. The head *is* the heart.

Gee what a big coincidence. Not.

From the top of the rocks I see him:

Alef, #1. Simple meaning.
