That's right. The Hebrew Scriptures (depending on the translation) uses the word "holocaust" frequently to indicate burnt offerings in Biblical Israel.

I think the more particular word for the National Socialist genocide against the Jews is the "Shoah", a Hebrew word for "catastrophe".

I never liked the word holocaust for what is better described as a catastrophe. It really came into prominence with the tv film “Holocaust.” I had an Orthodox Jewish friend in the 80s who also disliked that word to describe what happened. This rabbi sounds like a pc lib. Language belongs to all of us.
