Catholic Church sets out a vision for closer ties with Islam

Cardinal Vincent Nichols planting a sapling at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies

How can dialogue between faiths lead to a deeper spiritual understanding? Is there not always a danger that both sides will talk across each other without listening or just agree on the bare minimum they have in common?

These questions were raised this week by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster, when he made the first visit by the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Britain to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, the dazzling new college that aims to become the country’s principal centre for the academic study of Islam.

The cardinal admitted that he had limited experience of dialogue with Muslim leaders, but said that a meeting between faith leaders, called to show solidarity in the city’s central mosque after the 9/11 attacks in America, had led to lasting personal relationships and communal solidarity.

He’s a usurper. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t identify as Catholic.

841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."330 http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p123a9p3.htm

The Roman Catholic church is in error over this. Elohim is not Allah.

If they are hoping to get mercy when the muzzies get into power, they are stupidly wrong. The muzzies will just kill them after the Jews.

I knew when they said this pope was a Jesuit we were in trouble as a faith.
Reaping what has been sown.
How long until this pope bows towards Mecca? If he doesn’t already?
Makes me ill

What’s next? Seeking closer ties with Satan?

That's not what's next.

That's what is happening NOW.

Seeking closer ties with islam = seeking closer ties with Satan.

Seems like a lot of people are protesting the direction Rome is taking.

I guess they want to get back to their roots and what Catholicism is supposed to be.

Wait..... that sounds awfully familiar......

It will be curious if the Vatican "amends" the CCC over this.

If so, they're admitting error.

Every council that has amended the one before it has basically admitted error.

If the previous ones weren’t wrong, they wouldn’t need amending.

The “closer ties” would be, of course with Satan. Unfortunately, the modern popes and bishops continue to use the word “Catholic” although they have been moving steadily away form the true teachings of the Church for many years. In fact, many Catholics and Protestants are now recognizing that there is little distinction between the services and teachings of many modern bishops and priests of the Catholic Church, and the services and teachings of most Protestant denominations.

The Catholic Church, however, has not changed in any way. Indeed, the Church herself is precisely as she was created by Jesus Christ some two thousand years ago. Nevertheless, the current leaders of the Church have been infected with the heresy of Modernism and have been leading the faithful in a diabolical direction since the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). This kowtowing to the false and demonic religion of Islam is but one recent example of this behavior.

Sadly, most modern Catholics in the pews have been unwilling to make the effort to learn what has truly happened to the religion that they profess, and are blindly following each other down a very destructive path. A great many have drifted away altogether. But those who will make that effort would learn that there is only one priestly organization that has continued to profess and follow the true teachings of the Catholic Church, and that is the Society of St Pius X (SSPX).

The popes and the modern bishops of Rome despise the SSPX because they recognize that the priests of the Society do not deviate in any way whatsoever from the exact same teachings and liturgy of the Church that were extant prior to Vatican II. The Chapels where they celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) are growing in number and are now widely available to anyone with an interest on following the true teachings of the Catholic Church.

Do they despise them? It seems to me that as long as the SSPX continues to recognize their orders and positions as legitimate they only help them, not hurt them.

... recognizes Christ’s existence, but denies His divinity.
Not even that. The Muslim "Jesus" character was not crucified and ended up teaching in Mecca.

Closer ties with all non-Catholic, false religions have been happening since Vatican II. When will people wake up?

With respect, it is exactly “that”. The basis of Christianity is that Jesus IS the Son of God. If that is not true, then Christianity is a lie. Islam teaches that Christianity is a lie. There is no middle ground, if Christianity is true then Islam is a lie, and Satan is the Father of Lies.

Yes, that is the view of the SSPX-resistance, and unfortunately, a view that’s shared by many traditional Catholics who are simply victims of the “diabolical disorientation”.

The SSPX is faithful the the Church––not to the faithless teachings of the modern popes and bishops. The modern bishops will continue to succeed in their diabolical efforts as long as traditional Catholics fail to recognize this important distinction.

The professed mission of the SSPX has always been one of “continuing” the true teachings of the Catholic Church––not to start a religion of their own making. One of the important teachings of the Church is that “where Peter is, there is the Church”. The current pope (as well as the earlier popes since Vatican II) has been a disgraceful leader of the Church. That is true. But he is still the pope.

No human being on this earth has the authority to “judge the pope”. I realize that many of the internet sites that profess to be following traditional Catholic teaching (especially those advocating Sedevacantism) have decided for themselves that the pope is a false pope or a heretic. That is absolutely inconsistent with Catholic teaching, regardless of the persuasive arguments that are advanced to claim otherwise.

Moreover, despite the false information that is regularly circulated by the SSPX_resistance crowd, the Sedevacantists sites, and the simply misinformed and gullible Catholics, the SSPX has consistently published their immutable position; namely, that while they will continue to engage in dialogue with the leaders in Rome, they will absolutely never enter into any “agreement” with those leaders until they have agreed to abandon every one of the false teachings of Vatican II.

There is a great difference between the teachings of the Catholic Church even SSPX and Protestants. The confessional biblically based Protestants teach the simple truth of the gospel without the catholic heresies thrown in - both pre and post Vatican II heresies. I beg to disagree that we are anything like modern or premodern catholics

The only Protestants that are similar to modern catholocs are the liberal apostate mainline churches that have left the Truth of the gospel for a popular social justice platform
