God's Wrath

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).

God hates sin and will judge unrepentant sinners.

We now come to a topic that is perhaps unpleasant to discuss, but it is essential if we are to have a right understanding of God: His wrath. The idea of a wrathful God goes against the wishful thinking of fallen human nature. Even much evangelism today speaks only of the joys and blessings of salvation without mentioning that those who are without God are under His wrath (Eph. 2:3).

God’s attributes are balanced in divine perfection. If He had no righteous anger, He would not be God, just as He would not be God without His gracious love. He perfectly loves righteousness and perfectly hates evil (Ps. 45:7).

But God’s wrath isn’t like ours. The Greek word used for God’s wrath in the New Testament refers to a settled, determined indignation. God does not “fly off the handle,” whereas we tend to be emotional and uncontrolled in our anger.

Many times God expressed His wrath to sinful mankind in past ages. He destroyed all mankind except Noah and his family in the great Flood (Gen. 6—7). He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins (Gen. 18—19). The Lord told unfaithful Israel, “Behold, My anger and My wrath will be poured out on this place, on man and on beast and on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground; and it will burn and not be quenched” (Jer. 7:20).

Some people today foolishly think the God of the Old Testament was a God of wrath and the New Testament God was a God of love, but His wrath is just as clearly taught in the New Testament. Jesus says, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36). In the end-times Jesus will return “dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thess. 1:8). God is the same God, and He will always hate sin.

Suggestions for Prayer

Praise God for His righteous hatred of sin.

For Further Study

Read more about God’s wrath in Romans 1:18—2:16.

What specifically causes His wrath? How does He display His wrath to the unrighteous?

That is but that’s not what God is saying.

Mankind is doomed from the get go. And not because someone offended God, but because justice must be done for wrongs committed.

That passage, with the rest of chapter 1, teach that homosexuality and the other listed sins, are a form of judgment.

An interesting concept that God giving us what we want or letting us have our own way is a form of judgment.

The simple truth is in John 3:16 - 18. This wrath message is not correct. There is no condemnation in Jesus. Zero. Just believe in Jesus as the Son of God. You then have eternal life. BTW , there is no judgement of believers because of atonement and propitiation. Zero. And , get this, there is no eternal life in hades. Hades is simple oblivion. In Greek it means “pit or grave”. Zero eternal damnation. Jasus learned Aramaic from the essenes. He used the term “Gahenna” meaning “ of hinnon” which was
The jerulselum city dump. No eternal life there. Jesus is real but you are being lied to on so much of the rest. ( to get your money in the name of God. Did you not know that God doesnt need your money and Jesus HATED the tithe?)

Created well, mankind chose to reject God.

*Sickness* was the result and God offers wellness again, but it’s our choice.

God provided a way to be made well again free for the asking, but people don’t like it or want it, so if they end up in hell, it’s their own choice.

Hell was created for the devil and his angels, not for people. But if someone chooses to reject God and serve Satan, then they get what their master gets.

You said: Mankind is doomed from the get go. Then: Created well

You can have one or the other, but you can't have both. If I understand your doctrine correctly, original sin is binding and can not be cured by human action alone. Thus, Created sick.

Adam and Eve were created well. They chose to sin and doomed mankind.

Each and everyone of us inherited that sin nature and don’t have a chance outside of Christ.

That perfectly captures my earlier remark. The captive performs for the master, or takes a beating. There is no escape from his "love". Original sin is a repulsive piece of dogma and completely unknown to the Jews who wrote the book. If it existed, you would think they'd know about it.

Actually just the opposite. We are born into this world dying. We start dying with the first breath we take. Our body is mortal. God has a path for us to take (IF we choose) to live forever. You would not want to live forever if this forever held only sorrow and pain. But Gods plan for forever is a world free from pain, sin, sickness, guilt and all of the bad things in this life. It is a world so wonderful that the All Knowing God says that you literally cannot conceive of how good it is. But this path was paved with a great cost. Someone paid the price for your ticket to paradise with His life. Would you like to meet this person? I know I would. Know this, He loved you before you knew Him.

It’s not a matter of performance. No one can perform well enough to earn God’s favor.

God made this world and set up the ground rules as is His right as the creator.

God wanted to have a relationship with man and man broke that in rebellion.

There are consequences for breaking laws, even here on this earth. What with your thinking, there is no good or evil. And there is no requirement for justice.

We might as well empty all the jails of criminals who broke the law because after all, they didn’t make the the laws, they just have to perform or face the consequences. Right?

I never said anything about original sin. But we have a sin nature which has a propensity to sin and will if left unchecked.

And whatever you think about the whole sin issue, God Himself provided a means to avoid the consequences of our sin. And He provided it free of charge, just for the asking, for anyone. Even a child could do it and it’s not based on works or performance.

And God Himself came down and lived on this earth. the creator of the universe endured the tedium of growing from conception to adulthood, learning to walk and learning to talk, and dealing with all the problems we all face in this life. He walked virtually everywhere He went and was crucified in the most reprehensible manner all for going about telling people that God loves them and healing them by the multitude.

It appears that your concept of God is very warped and if I believed in the kind of God you are alluding to, I wouldn’t want anything to do with him either.

But the god you appear to have set up in your mind to reject is NOT the God of Scripture.

He still loves you in spite of your disdain and wants you to know the love and joy and peace of knowing Him and does NOT want you to go to hell.

Jesus didn’t HAVE to die for our sin and endure the torture of the execution He endured. He did it out of love and compassion so that we wouldn’t have to pay for eternity for the wrongs we have done in this life.

Revelation 21:1-7 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Revelation 22:1-5Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

I'm familiar with the doctrine of Original Sin but I'm not familiar with a Christian doctrine of Sin Nature. Would you please encapsulate this for me in a few sentences? Are children born sinless in this doctrine?
