Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

What do Shakespeare's "Henry V", the Confederate Song "Bonnie Blue Flag", and a mini-series about D-Day all have in common? If your answer is "Band of Brothers", you are CORRECT!

The phrase comes from a speech in Henry V in anticipation of The Battle of Agincourt.

Although I am not an expert in this particular bit of History, it is generally accepted among amateur historians that the English Victory was abetted by the superior weapons technology of the Longbow. Because of the mechanical advantage of the longbow, arrows were more accurate and traveled further.

Sometimes, superior technology would win the day. Other times, like The Battle of Kursk, it was a matter of sheer NUMBERS that won the day.

Still others like The Battle of Thermopylae, relied on neither technology nor numbers and are the stuff of Legend.

In This brief passage of Scripture, God gives up three wonderful Names. he is The Mighty One. He is The Shepherd. He is the Rock of Israel. He also compares Himself to an Archer, sending forth an Arrow Straight and True. He is Our Defender in Battle, along with everything else!

25. By the God of your father, who shall help you; and by the Almighty, who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:

It's one of the those Messianic passages that sails right by, because who would think to look there (in Joseph, that is).

Makes sense, because slackers and deceivers can't find or fake stuff that they don't even know is there. Kind of like the woman who presented a false yearbook signature. She didn't know that "D.A." didn't mean what she thought it meant. Hanged on her own gallows, so to speak.
