Westminster Abbey was stolen!

Westminster Abbey was stolen! As is the case with all ancient English churches, monasteries, or convents presently in the hands of the Anglicans, the famed Abbey where English monarchs are crowned and buried, was once the property of a Catholic institution. Westminister Abbey was a Benedictine monastery. While the Catholic origin of the Abbey may be well-known, especially in England, many people are unaware of who the Abbey’s heavenly patron.

The Abbey dates back at least to the eighth century, but possibly before. During the time of King Saint Edward the Confessor (1003-1066), it had already been in existence as a Benedictine Monastery for about two hundred years. During an exile in Normandy, King Edward made a vow that he would go on pilgrimage to Rome, to the tomb of St. Peter. Being unable to keep this vow, for reasons of state, he requested that the pope absolve him of it.

Pope Leo IX commuted the vow, but under certain conditions, one of them being that Edward build or restore, in England, an abbey in honor of St. Peter. This he did by rebuilding the Abbey at Westminster. The relics of the Sainted King are still enshrined at the Abbey, where they are in the company of the earthly remains of many other English Monarchs, some Catholic, but mostly Protestant.

Regarding these latter, we make an observation. The day of the General Judgment will present the awesome spectacle of a royal reprobate honor-guard lining up to escort the Papist King-Saint as he rises to assume his everlasting throne in glory. O day of wrath!

Raised Catholic and became Lutheran later, I never ran into anti-Protestant stuff until I read posts on FR. Quite enlightening.

.
Let’s look at what is really stolen.

Just look at the massive accumulated wealth in the Vatican, the cathedrals scattered around Europe.

Those satanic palaces were built with gifts from common peasants to feed Yeshua’s sheep, and instead they have built monuments to Satanic greed and lust.

Palaces to celebrate the greatness of Babylon.

(And I include mega-churches of every stripe in this accusation)

“Just look at the massive accumulated wealth in the Vatican, the cathedrals scattered around Europe.”

Donations. Thanks. Thanks for not being able to make a logical point yet again.

“Those satanic palaces were built with gifts from common peasants to feed Yeshua’s sheep, and instead they have built monuments to Satanic greed and lust.”

Thanks for admitting it was all DONATED money. And the donations went to the places to which they were donated so that people could have Mass, beautiful churches and cathedrals, schools, places where the poor could be fed and taught. None of them are Satanic in the least. But your posts are in that they attack Christ’s Church.

“Palaces to celebrate the greatness of Babylon.”

Actually palaces to celebrate Christ and His sacrifice.

“(And I include mega-churches of every stripe in this accusation)”

It probably doesn’t matter what you include or don’t since you’re opinion simply doesn’t matter.

The Great Schism happened hundreds of years before Constantinople fell. Hagia Sophia was stolen from the Eastern Orthodox church.

It is interesting that in England, especially in London, you will find Catholic Churches, built in the 1800s, that sit within a few blocks of the original Catholic Church that are now Anglican churches.

And, Catholic churchgoers now out number the Anglicans.

It only seems right that the Catholic Church should get all their churches back.

Another thing, Mary I is buried in Westminster directly beneath Elizabeth I.

That just don't seem right.

“Donated at the point of a psuedospiritual gun!”

Nope. But of course you’ll keep saying it any way. You give no evidence, have no evidence and don’t seem to care about the truth. As long as it fits the anti-Catholic narrative, you’ll keep saying it.

“Churches get away with what puts most criminals in prison.”

Anti-Catholics get away with posting lies.

Well if you are trying to make up a new “religion” you need buildings and an ax to chop off heads of those who try to stop your larceny.

Like thed did with the first stolen Catholic cathedral, the Hagia Sophia in Turkey. It was stolen from the Catholics as well. :(

Do what? The only brief period when the Hagia Sophia was Catholic was during the Latin Captivity following the sack of Constantinople by the 4th Crusade (1204-1261). Speaking of which, when is Rome going to return all of the plunder, including vast troves of relics, stolen from our churches and carried off to the west?

History moves on. I suggest you do also. Life is better when you live in the present.

Yeah, right! (sacrcasm/off)

British monarch can now marry a Catholic but cannot be one

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Get back to us when the Orthodox return all Catholic churches seized by the USSR and given to them.

I have long believed that churches stolen from the Ukrainian uniates should be returned. And yes some ended up in the hands of the Russian Orthodox Church. Moscow is simply wrong on this subject.

Did you run across anti Catholic stuff before you went Lutheran?

And what is being said is not anti-anything, Westminster was a Benedictine Abby and the Benedictine’s are and always have been 100% in communion with Rome, hence Catholic.

If I am not mistaken, Pope John Paul II started doing this when he was Pope as each time he met with a Eastern Orthodox Patriarch, he would give them relics that were taken from the East during the 4th crusade. Not that these were taken by military men and brought back and after the Muslims took over Constantinople, those relics were not going to be sent back to what is now Turkey.

However, Rome and The East can as sign of fraternal charity, work to right as best they can, wrongs committed on both sides. As another poster said, lots of Catholic Churches and relics were taken over by USSR and after its fall, given to the Orthodox.
