FULL TITLE: Revealed: The evangelical North Carolina church that 'kidnapped children with the help of a social worker insider and brainwashed them through years of abuse'
A secretive church congregation in North Carolina has used money, influence and lies to rip more than two dozen children from their parents and take them in as their own, an investigation has revealed.
Once the children were inside the Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, North Carolina, the evangelical church physically and verbally abused them for years, former congregation members claim.
Word of Faith Fellowship regularly used its muscle to turn children against their parents in custody, foster care and other cases involving kids who were then taken in or adopted by other families, according to police reports and social services documents.
Former members told the AP of at least two dozen such cases, which they attributed to the church trying to keep minors from leaving the congregation.

don’t know if this church counts as “mega church” for your ping list but know it has had it’s share of controversy over the years.
It is a small group, but very influential in its tiny area.
For a “small town” church they are certainly well known.
Just to be PC and anti-Christian, they stick in the word, “evangelical”, when a true evangelical church would never do such a thing.
Any church who does this is a cult.
To be fair am thinking that is what this bunch calls themselves. Not saying it’s right but that is what they do.
Like the Westboro Baptist bunch of freaks. Disturbing.
The article reeks of anti-Christian dogma. Fundamental principles of faith are portrayed as dehumanizing. Caring and loving ar4 treated as selfish and controlling. This is a hit job, plain and simple. Abusive parents are treated as innocent lambs. The article is filled with hearsay and innuendo. The church is described as a cult. Bunch of crap.
Evangelical churches routinely seek to save children from drug addled parents. That is what they do.
Kinda like Scientology.
You are being gullible, swallowing whole an obvious hate piece against a loving, caring ministry.
No. Kinda like Jesus.
A Christian church that is not controversial is a church that is not fighting against sin.
“Evangelical churches routinely seek to save children from drug addled parents.”
Not by kidnapping them, for sure! And evangelical churches also routinely seek to save the children’s parents from their drug-addled lifestyles. We have a huge children’s outreach at our church which tangentially is for the children, but its primary purpose is to reach their parents.
“You are being gullible, swallowing whole an obvious hate piece”
I certainly am NOT! I am criticizing the MEDIA using the terms “evangelical” and “kidnapping” in the same sentence and title. I’m sure the church does wonderful work, and I’m sure the media is doing whatever they can to thwart the ministry.
Kidnapping is the term used by a hate filled reporter and crazed parents. These children were cared for legally and appropriately by church members.
I have run ministries for cildren and severely damaged parents. Tese particular parents were career criminals, incapable of providing sole support. Read between the lines. Parents were consistently included in the care of their children.
Like the Westboro Baptist bunch of freaks. Disturbing.
This comment does not express the sentiments you are now expressing.
Not many people in Rutherford county but these people are quacks
Thanks for the ping.
They have 750 members, not quite a megachurh.
Yowza. The comments at the source are just as Evangelical demonizing as the article. The group “evangelical” must be huge! What proportion are cultish in this way? Anyone in the Evangelical community belong to a church that has this kind of set up within a community?
I can see how a small town church could get away with it with an established “Good ol’ boy” network but have the county social workers included? That’s pretty difficult. Am I naive? Satan can infiltrate a church if he gets a foothold but it’s making me sick thinking about this kind of crud.
