A married priest would throw everything out of the order it should be in. The married priest is no longer as “important” in the life of his parishioners by way of necessity.

Also, anyone attending a Tridentine Latin Mass will eventually see that if the TLM was to be perpetuated, we’d have no trouble at all finding priests. Check one out if you haven’t already done so; most beautiful, respectful, heavenly, angelic, Mass in the world.

You make some very good points.

Just to clarify my own position I am a devout Catholic and I am very active in my parish.

I do not have a position on celibacy and think the current requirement is working for the most part.

But it appears that the church position is slowly changing.

Many Catholics I speak to think it would be better if priests could marry.

I am too young to remember the original TLM.

But I have attended two when they were available.

I have even seen a Latin baptism not long ago.

It is worth making an additional distinction. Catholics who think the change is/should be “allowing priests to marry” are ignorant of their history. That was never allowed. Instead, what was allowed was married men being ordained as priests (and this is what is being floated, contrary to the poorly-written headline).

Also, please ask any Catholic who supports married priests if they tithe (a true 10% tithe). That is what it will take for parishes to afford the costs associated with married priests and their families. Most parishes (at least in my corner of America) can barely afford their celibate priests, and most permanent deacons are not compensated by the parishes - they are quasi-volunteers.
