Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Two More Stories Today:

Over thirty years ago, I worked in the Bookstore of a very liberal (ie: leftist) Seminary in the Northeast that seemed to me to be replacing the Gospel with Feminism, Liberation Theology, Marxism, and Left-Wing Political Thought. (Just my opinion, but look where many denominations are today!). Anyway, a frequent visitor to the bookstore who was an ardent Feminist came in the Monday after Mothers' Day, and she was LIVID with RAGE.

"Can you believe those IDIOTS!" she fumed. "They had the Choir sing "Faith of Our FATHERS" On MOTHERS' DAY!!!" SEXIST PIGS, ALL OF THEM!"

I found myself defending the Choir Director of this unknown church, by patiently trying to explain that the Hebrew Word for "God of Our Fathers" meant ANCESTORS, and that there were many heroic women in the bible, even in the Old Testament. My attempt at reconciliation failed, and I assume that she is now "ministering" to some dying congregation, somewhere in New England. (sigh) Oh Well.

The other story is more encouraging, and JUST HAPPENED. Some of you may be aware of my personal Bible Reading Program, which I will outline in another comment further downthread. (It WORKS!). Anyway, My Torah Reading for Today JUST HAPPENED to be Exodus 3

.You will recall that Exodus 3 was where we learned the Name of God YHVH...I AM. However, in this Chapter, the First Name God identifies Himself with is "I AM the God of Your Fathers". He actually does this more than once in the one chapter.

Just in Time for Today's thread.

Coincidence?

You decide!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

This Symbol Represents Christians in The Middle East, who desperately need our Prayers.

Hallelujah and Amen

No coincidences. :)

I love the lineage concept here because it's not just about some people from the past. It's a thread that literally connects generation to generation, through the fathers.

The Patriarchs: Abraham -->Isaac --> Jacob.

Father to son to son, what they pass along. Their love, their character traits, who they are intrinsically. And who inherits what and why. A father who keeps going the business he inherited from his father, who had inherited from his father, would most desire to pass along that family business to the son who loves it and wants to guard and keep it like the patriarchs who built it up in the first place.

Or, why there needed to be some creative "reordering" such that Jacob rightfully received the birthright and the blessing. Esav was a short-sighted man of the physical world, lacking impulse control, with a victim mentality and vindictive streak, who would have blown it all in Vegas. You can't just hand the keys over to a fellow like that.

The miracle of Israel is that somehow down through the ages, the right sons have kept the family business alive. God promised David that he would never lack a man to sit on his throne, but as we see how generational businesses continue, the son would have to love his father's business.

Here we are. Even Esav would merit a place in the business operations, if he were to mature and finally see the error of his ways. I believe that a main reason for this verry long exile [going on 2000 years for Jews, and over 2700 years for Israel], and even why this last one is called the Galut of Edom, is because Edom is a very slow learner. It will all make sense in the weirdest way.

People think Esav is SOL, however,

Exodus 33:19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.

Romans 9:13-18

13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

Jacob --> mercy
Esav --> compassion
Pharoah --> hardening

Pharaoh is not the proper father figure to emulate and follow in his business. Bad seed, no excuse for the oppressive Establishments of the pharaohs. The Pharaohs were even given a proper father figure:

Genesis 45:7-10, Joseph:

7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
9 Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:
10 And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:

Amen, left that other site

And fathers are so important! Psychological studies have shown that. A child with a father or father figure present is more likely to finish school and prosper.

Maybe they were singing Faith of our Mothers to the tune of Faith of our Fathers . . . I’ve heard that done before. Just sayin’ :)

They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
