...and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.(Revelation 9:13-15)

Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children. And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah(Isaiah 13:17-19)

The Euphrates region is an area that God has said is the location of four Messengers, bound by God until a specific time of almost absolute and unprecedented destruction of humanity and of the earth. The Euphrates runs through or borders four distinct nations, Turkey,Syria,Iraq, and Iran. All of these nations are currently suffering in various degrees of civil war, unrest, bitter strife, factionalism, poverty, and under the rule of violent warmongers/

There is a fifth nation in the region , one which currently doesn’t have a state and which is a thorn in the side to the four nations which touch the Euphrates. The Kurdish people are the largest stateless entity in the world today, 30 million people spread throughout Iraq, Turkey,Iran and Syria, and longing for a state of their own.

The Kurds were the most pro Western/American faction in the various gulf wars, and carved out for themselves an enclave in Northern Iraq where they recently passed a resolution to create an independent Kurdish state. This immediately triggered jointpositioning of Turkish troops,/a> on the border of the Kurdish area of Iraq.

How did the Kurds become stateless? The Kurds are the descendants of the Ancient Medes spoken of in the Bible. They have always inhabited the mountainous region from Iraq to Turkey, via various Kingdoms through the centuries.

In 1519 Kurdistan became incorporated into the Ottoman Empire, where it maintained some Sovereignty for three centuries but eventually unsuccessfully fought wars to throw off Turkish domination. At the end of World War One a Kurdish delegation appealed to the councils at Versailles for the establishment of a Kurdistan, but Britain instead lobbied for the Kurds to be incorporated into Iraq, in order to gain control of oil fields near Erbil.

Kurdish militias from Syria, Iraq and Turkey have had the greatest success fighting ISIS, although they have for the most part been shunned by the Obama administration, as per armaments and training. At one time Turkey was bombing ISIS positions and the Kurds who were fighting ISIS at the same time.

In the Kurdish culture, the year One is our 612 BC. They reckon time based upon the fall of Ninevah, the capitol of the Assyrian Empire, brought about by the combination of the Medes, Persians and Babylonians.

Ironically currently the same city, now known as Mosul has been enduring a siege, having been taken over by ISIS. The same three modern incarnations of the ancient nations are principles in the siege, Iran(Persia) , Iraq(Babylon) and Kurdish armies(The Medes) have besieged and nearly wiped out ISIS (Assyria) in Mosul (Ninevah).

The Kurds have a role in Bible prophecy. How does a stateless people without a military and no national borders become a major player in the endtimes geopolitical scenario?

Joel Rosenberg offers a pretty good possibility in this article

Bible prophecy indicates that in the End Times, as we get closer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, God will allow the Medes to gain power, even as the Lord allows the Arabs to gain power and rebuild the kingdom of Babylon in the heart of Iraq.

The Book of Revelation, for example, tells us that Babylon will be the epicenter of evil in the last days of history, and will eventually face the judgment of God. The Hebrew prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel tell us this, as well, indicating Babylon will be completely destroyed and when the judgment is complete, Babylon will be completely uninhabitable. Indeed, Isaiah 13:20 says of Babylon, “It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; nor will the Arab pitch his tent there, nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.”

What’s more, Bible prophecy indicates that God will raise up the Medes — that is, the Kurdish people — to be an instrument of judgment against Babylon.

Isaiah 13:17 — “Behold, I am going to stir up the Medes against them [the Babylonians]….” Jeremiah 51:11 — “The Lord has aroused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His purpose is against Babylon to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the Lord….” Jeremiah 51:28-29 — “Consecrate the nations against her, the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their prefects, and every land of their dominion. So the land quakes and writhes, for the purposes of the Lord against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitants….”

Do we know Kurds decend from Medes?
Also, I thought Hittites were more from that area where the mountains and Euphrates met, and Media was farther east. Just asking. I have very little historical study in it.

The Kurds were the most pro Western/American faction in the various gulf wars

Which is exactly why we will never recognize them, although we should.

I was going to ask the same question. It seems an assertion that would be difficult to support. Maybe with lots of DNA analysis. The Medes were the most populous tribe of Iranian peoples. The Pars tribe became dominant under Cyrus the Great, and the land became known as Persia. Did the Medes stay separate? Or did they intermingle with the Persians and others to the point that it could not be said they still exist? I don’t know, but I didn’t see any support for the claim in this article.

Kurdish is supposed to be an ancient, less Arab, Iranian language, but I always thought that was because their mountain region was less subject to total conquest, and they were left alone when Arabs imposed themselves.

They do some interesting stuff with genetics recently. I don’t think they have it all quite nailed down particularly with the complex issues of historical migration, but its getting there
