Justin Welby has said he struggles with the question of whether gay sex is a sin and acknowledged that the gulf between conservative and liberal Anglicans on the issue is irreconcilable
...Welby, who came under fire at the weekend by survivors of sexual abuse for his suggestion that the Church of England had acted with integrity, is likely to disappoint LGBTI campaigners within the church over his cop-out on gay sex.
Asked by Campbell if gay sex was sinful, Welby said: You know very well that is a question I cant give a straight answer to. Sorry, badly phrased there. I should have thought that one through.
Pressed on why he could not answer, the archbishop said: Because I dont do blanket condemnation and I havent got a good answer to the question. Ill be really honest about that. I know I havent got a good answer to the question. Inherently, within myself, the things that seem to me to be absolutely central are around faithfulness, stability of relationships and loving relationships.
He added: I am having to struggle to be faithful to the tradition, faithful to the scripture, to understand what the call and will of God is in the 21st century and to respond appropriately with an answer for all people not condemning them, whether I agree with them or not that covers both sides of the argument. And I havent got a good answer, and I am not doing that bit of work as well as I would like.

<< “You know very well that is a question I cant give a straight answer to.” >>
Yes he can. The Bible is quite clear on the issue.
I have a good answer. Torah Law forbids all types of same-sex erotic contact. To hell with the 21st century.
Because I dont do blanket condemnation...”
Come on man.the church can’t take a moral stand.
What, and lose all those potential contributions?
Never,
Sounds like he is trying to make the Bible subject to change, similar to the Rats trying to change out Constitution.
Maybe he should try something easier, like saying that sodomy with the opposite sex is sinful.
A distinction needs to be made between the act that is objectively sinful and wrong, and the culpability of the individual who commits the act. When we know which one this is talking about, we can more easily give an answer.
Sin implies the existence of moral absolutes, the idea of which is abhorrent to relativists. As a "faithful relativist", the good bishop knows not to go there.
The only thing of value he said was that the different factions were irreconcilable. So is God and Satan.
"Straight Answer." See what they did there?
Seriously, he must have a Bible somewhere, the "straight answer" is clearly proclaimed there. Stop being ashamed of what God has told us.
Romans 1 says yes. Your welcome.
It IS a sin. Not allowed. Those who practice it cannot inherit the Kingdom of God
Maybe the man should read Romans 1. The answer is there in black and white!
You moron. It's the same as it was in the 20th century, and the 19th, and the 18th, and the 17th... get where I'm going?
The state of Holy Matrimony does not exist for homosexuals.
If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. (Leviticus 20:13)
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. ... 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know Gods righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:26-32)
5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwellingthese he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. (Jude 1:5-7)
One need only open the Bible and read it find out if sexual perversion is sinful.
Sodomite behavior (homosex) is still as repugnant to God and deserving of death. It is a capital offense. Moderns should be able to relate to punishments fitting the crime. In this life its punishment deserve the termination of that life. Yet, our fallen culture winks at this offense and enshrines it. Disgusting.
Any sin will earn the sinner a trip to hell. But the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. As many as receive him (believe on his name -- Jesus) will receive power to becomes children of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.
Then he is not “serving God”, he is serving gays, lesbians, and liberals.
He needs to check and see if the British McDonalds is hiring.
Their problem, and my problem with them, is that they no longer believe many, many parts of the Bible. However, instead of coming out with their “new and approved by censors” version, they just don’t mention those parts.
It’s very confusing for anyone who wants to read the Bible on their own. But I suspect that is their intent.
I think I understand why. They aren't saved. They do not have the Holy Spirit and consequently cannot accept the truth. I take this understanding from scripture:
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. (1 John 2:20,21)
And...
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. (1 John 2:27)
Our supernatural response to the truth of scripture, enabled by the Holy Spirit, should be acceptance of the truth. Because these sodomite enshrining false prophets do not accept the truth, this leads me to conclusion that they do NOT have the Holy Spirit and are consequently not saved.
All believers have the Holy Spirit. This is taught in Ephesians 1:
13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvationhaving also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of Gods own possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
There are many unsaved people in the apostate denominations, catholicism and its "daughters" (e.g. Church of England).
