I agree. Not only that, he still won’t attend mass.
I was sent to church so that my stepmother and her boyfriend could have some ‘adult time’ in the tiny house we lived in. It turned out to be a formative influence, it was a humble little non-denominational Bible church way out in the Redwoods in the middle of nowhere.
Bible study, worship and fellowship with a weekly country potluck. No BS, no politics, just The Word and taking care of each other.
I miss it terribly.
I first heard of the “Misery Synod” in the back of a Paddy wagon, from a member. He said, “We’re the anti-Catholic Lutherans,” and then we both laughed out loud. Needless to say, we were fellow members of the “ecumenism of hate,” as Bergoglio calls us. I.e., pro-lifers.

Excommunication is a “medicinal penalty.” I.e., its purpose is to appeal to conscience.
Since Luther died without reconciling with the Catholic Church, lifting the excommunication is merely symbolic. It is a way for Bergoglio to signal that he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the dogmas and sacraments that Luther rejected.
