Wait, Joel Osteen. Something Isn’t Adding Up

On Sunday, as Hurricane Harvey began to crush parts of Texas, Joel Osteen, pastor of Houston megachurch Lakewood, tweeted that his church was “inaccessible due to severe flooding,” and then let his Twitter followers know that they could go to an area shelter should they need help.

Followers who were near the church then took video and photos of the “severe flooding” to show that the roads and entrance to the church were actually accessible. Those on Twitter then began bashing the pastor, who quickly blocked those on social media who called him out.

Lakewood church staff began posting photos of their own, showing that parts of the parking area were, in fact, flooded. Shortly after that, the narrative started to shift. The news became that the church had always been willing to help, but church officials were more comfortable with the facility being used as a supply station rather than a shelter. They would, however, allow the church to become an emergency shelter if all of the area shelters were filled.

I wouldn’t blame anyone for being hesitant about opening their facilities to evacuees. Just look at what happened to the Superdome during Katrina. People trashed the place, defecating and urinating wherever they wanted to and then getting angry because nobody made arrangements for food and bedding for all the people who refused to evacuate and who ended up camping in the SD. There were fights, shootings, assaults, robberies, etc. It took a very long time to clean it up and repair all the damage.

My Mom managed a hotel in the French Quarter and the owner allowed employees and their families to stay there if they had to vacate their homes. The hotel bar was raided, TVs were stolen, the place was trashed and it took over a year to repair all the damage they caused and reopen for business. A LOT of people were out of work because of it. It’s sad but some people just want to take advantage of other’s kindness and do not respect nor care at all how they leave other people’s property.

Not to say Osteen should have turned down a formal request to house evacuees, but there had to be some planning to accommodate people who were going to be there. I’m not going to judge him for that.

That leaves the east coast. Many tribes flourished. Very quiet area.

Liberals want to attack conservatives, Christians, gun-owners, and patriots. They are at the top of the liberal attack list. Ee shouldn’t agree with any of their attacks until we have the facts, and even then we should separate from them.

He didn’t turn down a request. He offered the second floor, but was told it wasn’t needed. Then when the shelters overflowed, he opened the church and took in people.

The place has no showers.

However. to be fair, you should be aware that Joel does not take any money from the church. All of his money comes from his book sales - he does not accept one penny from the church. I am not an Osteen fan at all for all kinds of reasons, but I do think you need to be fair as to where his wealth comes from - not from the church, but from the book sales...I assume he tithes.
