Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

1 Kings 6

Solomon Builds the Temple

6 In the four hundred and eightieth[a] year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the Lord.

2 The temple that King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.[b] 3 The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits,[c] and projected ten cubits[d] from the front of the temple. 4 He made narrow windows high up in the temple walls. 5 Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms. 6 The lowest floor was five cubits[e] wide, the middle floor six cubits[f] and the third floor seven.[g] He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.

7 In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.

8 The entrance to the lowest[h] floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third. 9 So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks. 10 And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.

11 The word of the Lord came to Solomon: 12 “As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.”

14 So Solomon built the temple and completed it. 15 He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper. 16 He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. 17 The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits[i] long. 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.

19 He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there. 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar. 21 Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. 22 So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.

23 For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim out of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits—ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. 27 He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29 On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.

31 For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary. 32 And on the two olive-wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold. 33 In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall. 34 He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets. 35 He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.

36 And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.

37 The foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Solomon gets to work designing and building the temple The Biblical passages regarding the Temple bear a striking familiarity to the Passages we read about the Tabernacle. This is because Solomon is basing his design upon the instructions for the movable , portable, Tabernacle that were given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. There will be a few design differences, such as the number of Lampstands and a few other furnishings, and some features are added, such as the Twin Pillars, The Cherubim Guarding the Ark, but the Proportions of the measurements and the arrangement of them remain the same. The BIG difference is, of course, that the Tabernacle was temporary, and the Temple permanent (or so Solomon thinks!) With all his wisdom, Solomon probably realized that NOTHING lasts forever, except the Promise of God and his relationship with His People.

O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads. They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones. They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!” For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant—the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Asshur also has joined them; they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah
Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, who were destroyed at En-dor, who became dung for the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God.”
O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane! Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Lord. Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, that they may know that you alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83

Details within the details (what can I say, it's a magnet!):

37 The foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. 38 In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.

"Bul"

The modern name [Mar]cheshvan is simply the"month of 8", the 8th month; that's its meaning. Bul = increase, numerically being 2 + 6 + 30, 8 + 30.

Chet = 8

Chet is the letter of life (chaim, from the root chayah, whose most important letter is chet). We are taught in Chassidut that there are two levels of life “essential life” and “life to enliven.” God Himself, as it were, is in the state of “Essential life.” His creative power, continually permeating all of reality is “life to enliven.” So in the Jewish soul: the essence of its root, at one with God, possesses the state of “essential life.” The reflection of the light of the soul which shines below to enliven the body and its physical experience is at the level of “life to enliven.” The second level of life, life as we know it in general, manifests itself as pulsation, the secret of “run and return.”

According to the Ari z”l,” the letter chet is constructed by combining the two previous letters, vav and zayin, with a thin bridge-shaped line, referred to as the chatoteret (“hunchback”). The new energy effected by the union of the vav—or yashar–and the zayin—or chozer–is the secret of “hovering” or “touching yet not touching.” The image of “hovering” appears at the very beginning of Creation: “And the spirit of God was ‘hovering’ over the water.

http://www.inner.org/hebleter/chet.htm

(Many allusions to Rachel are in the first few verses of the Torah.)

Bul = increase, spelled 2 (bet) + 6 (vav) + 30 (lamed)...

2 --> 6 --> 30, an increase, literally, in the basic letter values:

2 x 3 = 6
6 x 5 = 30

(I see a pattern developing, 1,2,3,5,8,13...)

30 x 8 = 240...

The interesting thing about Ziv is that it means brightness, and is spelled zayin vav, which = 13 = one. More than that, those same letters are the foundational components of the letter chet, which is 8.

Furthermore, the months are counted with an inherent duality, e.g the 1st month (Tishri) of the new year being the 7th month counting from Nisan, the "beginning of months". Hence the 8th month is also the 2nd month.

Ziv = brightness = the 2nd month = zayin + vav = the letter chet = 8, which is Marcheshvan. The 8th month is also the 2nd month, as we already know. Here it is in these names.

The Exodus is dated 240 years after the death of Rachel, 8 x 30.

(As soon as we let doubt in, then Amalek comes.)

[Rachel died in year 2208, when Joseph was 9 according to tradition. It can be calculated by the Torah that Joseph was 39 (17 + 13 + 7 + 2) when the family was reunited. This was when the 70 souls came together in Egypt, and the 210 (7 x 30) year count to the Exodus commenced, meaning the reunification was 30 years after the death of Rachel, and 30 + 210 = 240]

The time in the wilderness was 40 years, meaning that the entry into the Promised Land occured 280 years after Rachel died and Ben-oni appeared for just a flash, the name having been conceived based on Rachel's hard labor on the 11th of the 8th month. 280 = 40 weeks

The foundation was laid in Ziv, zayin + vav, which = 13 = one, and completed in the month of increase, the 8th month.

The Foundation was laid in the Fourth year, and Finished in the eleventh year...

More concerning 8's, octaves (think musical scale, pianos which have 8 x 11 keys), the 4th is the same as the 11th. In the key of C (see), no sharps or flats, the 4th key is F, and the 11th is also F, one octave higher.

When there is a 13th month on the calendar, Cheshvan 11 plus 9 lunar months (38 weeks) comes to Tammuz 11, 4/11. Ordinarily that would only be 8 months.

The patterns are quite detailed in the matter of building and completing the Temple. There's much more in all that; it's too much to type. It's a flood like the Mabul, mem (40) + Bul (8 + 30). See what I mean? :)

Gen 7

10. And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth:
11. In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened:
12. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights...

Bethlehem, the house of lamed + chet + mem, IS the "house of [30 + 8] + 40", the Mabul (40 + 8 + 30).

It goes on. Fascinating stuff.

Year 78 is right around the corner.
