The Church maintained the science business all through the middle ages. The church supported and its universities- the Universities were institutions of the Church- were the essence of science.

Because no one is buying in the aisles that have devotional candles, and they are scared shitless of being on the wrong side of history again. Plus, the current culture gives the pederasts in their midst a pass.

"All human activities have to do with ethics, the Argentinean archbishop said, so they are already within the jurisdiction of the pope."

This is an incredibly sloppy statement and, on the plain grammatical reading of it, borders on the absurd.

If Abp Sorondo were in my RCIA class as a catechumen, I would not approve him to be received into the Catholic Church until he had cleared up in his mind the limits of papal "jurisdiction".

He simply does not understand enough about Catholicism.

And he would certainly not be allowed to teach!

The Vatican (not the whole church) has become a redoubt of left wing ideologues, who depend on creating a false reality, just as the Stalinist Lysenko flourished by creating a "Soviet" agronomy. This archbishop is clearly a thoroughly incompetent spokesman on the "science" of climate change, but then he retreats to the medieval reliance on authority-- the "magisterium"-- when science threatens to fail his agenda.
