Benedict XVI Receives the New Cardinals, and Speaks with Them in Various Languages
Rome Reports ^ | 6/28/17

After being created cardinals, Pope Francis accompanied the five new cardinals in their visit to a very special Vatican tenant, Pope Benedict XVI, who took off his zucchetto when he saw his successor.

The cardinal of Laos was first to present himself, and spoke to the pope emeritus in French.

"I know you speak French."
"Do you speak French?"
"Yes.”

Benedict XVI met the five new cardinals and spoke with all of them in their native tongue, demonstrating once again his capacity for languages.

For example, he spoke Spanish with the cardinals from Spain and El Salvador. Monsignor Juan Jose Omella told him about the Holy Family, a temple that Benedict XVI consecrated during his visit to Barcelona.

"Next Sunday we will start Mass every Sunday in the basilica."

He also spoke French with the cardinal of Mali. Then, the pope emeritus addressed the new cardinals with a few words and left them this message.

"The Lord wins in the end. Thank you all.”

Before leaving, Benedict XVI, along with Pope Francis, imparted a blessing to the five new cardinals.

"From the four continents. The whole Church."

The intimate encounter ended with this group photo.

Is he talking to all of us about the current situation in the Church here, or am I reading too much into this?

It’s a true statement, regardless.

I hope you’re not reading too much into it.

We need to hear encouragement and direction during this time.

In the end pretty much means in the end.

No, you’re thinking of Benedict’s replacement.

Pope Emeritus Benedict is such a scholar. In addition to his native German, he speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish. He also speaks Latin (of course), as well as reads Biblical Hebrew and Greek.

I liked it when George W. Bush, who’s pretty good hablaing the espanol, and Condi Rice, who is fluent in French and Russian, hob knobbed with world leaders, and often spoke directly with their counterparts, dispensing with translators.

I must also say that Barack Obama is pretty good with a foreign language himself, English.

He speaks with the deceptive tongue of Satan himself.

Reminds me of the TV show ‘Davinci’s Demons’ with the real Pope held captive while the false pope reigns.

Is Pope Benedict being called on to participate more often this year? I seem to be hearing more about him over the past six months than I have heard for the last few years.
I’m fine with him acting as a ‘Co-Pope’, if there was ever to be such an arrangement.

The world is so big now, with communication and travel what they are, being a Pope may be best served by more than one individual at once. Although they would have to be in agreement about a great many topics
and interpretations of morality. That would be a huge change in tradition. One that may not occur anytime soon if ever.

I must also say that Barack Obama is pretty good with a foreign language himself, English.

He's also fluent in Indonesian. Besides that, even if you believe the "born in Kenya" version of Birtherism, Kenya was a British colony at the time, and the native language would have been English. No foreign language there.

DISCLAIMER: i still despise everything that Obama stood for, but have no wish to trash the man, and wish him a long, happy, and prosperous life...The democrats got too much mileage out of two dead Kennedy brothers.

>>One of my tests of progressive socialists is whether they have a sense of humor. A conservative thinks it’s o.k. to poke some fun of W’s proclivity to mangle words. I notice you didn’t come to his defense when I said he hablad some espanol. But, you felt you needed to defend Obama by insisting he was fluent in Indonesian.

Barack Obama is not fluent in Indonesian. He speaks a few words of that language.
