Pope Francis said the U.S. is unnecessarily escalating a confrontation with North Korea, saying "things have gotten too hot."
If a war were to break out, it could have catastrophic consequences leading to the destruction of "a good part of humanity and culture," the pope said this weekend while departing Egypt for Rome.
"We are talking about the future of humanity. Today, a widespread war would destroy I would not say half of humanity but a good part of humanity, and of culture, everything, everything," he said. "It would be terrible. I don't think that humanity today would be able to withstand it."
He said North Korea's development of nuclear weapons has been known for years, and the escalation was not necessary.
The pope said the United Nations has "been watered down," but needs to be called on for leadership when it comes to North Korea.
"There are so many facilitators in the world, there are mediators who offer themselves," he said. "It is always ready to help."
Meant to ping you.
“Will no one rid me of this troublesome Priest?”
What did the man in a dress say about the death camps in North Korea? Damned coward.
You don’t back down from someone like Kim Jong-un-you draw a red line and you bloody well defend it.
Ditto!
If we hit north korea extremely hard first and turned a lot of content to glass before they could do anything, just exactly how would this be bad for the world? Name just one part of nork culture that the world would cry about not having anymore.
What a complete jackass.
The Pope needs to go administer to his faithful that are starving in South America.
Ill Papa as incorrect the good part of humanity will remain, just a cancerous lesion of a dictator and his cadre is North Korea will be removed from humanity
I didn’t think I agreed with anything this Pope had to say but I do agree we have an over population problem. I can see where the church and its teachings can’t align with birth control so it considers other options.
The over population problem appears to be the only thing we agree on. He seems to be concerned with rich people using more resources while I think poor people having 10 kids while 9 of them are starving is a capital offense. The planet only has so much resources. We need to slow down on using them up while we gear up to explore other planets to find resources elsewhere or eventually the human race will end one way or the other.
Frankie the idiot pope needs to STFU. Let the adults handle this.
I actually have sympathies for the North Korean people.
Their leadership, on the other hand, can rot in hell. The sooner the better.
He’s got his socialist bud’s back.
Whadda guy!
For the regular people i do too. Theres a lot of miltary stuff to hit. Lots.
Hey, Pope. Put white helmets your the Roman legion and send them to keep peace on the 38th parallel.
Funny!
He's still alive, he's still the Pope!
Speaking of Rome, it's the city famous for its domes.
D-O-M-E, what to do with those letters, eh?
YJCMTSU
Boy, they sure put a lot of words in his mouth in that article.
The Problem of Evil and what to do with it.
Perhaps poor Pope Francis has made the mistake of reading fake news. Perhaps he is too good and simple to be able to comprehend evil adequately. Perhaps he thinks he is helping by pointing out the world wants to help. Perhaps he feels globalism equates with loving your fellow man and has forgotten his economics.
Where was the world as the evil built for the last 8 years? Why didn’t anyone step in and stop all current dictatorships from continuing? What has the United Nations accomplished in the last three decades? Can someone so third world oriented comprehend the issues confronting global powers?
He needs our prayers. Pray that the Holy Spirit keeps him from scandalizing the faithful and damaging the influence of the Church.
