Actually the way to understand this is to obey all the Roman Pontiffs whether living or deceased.
Which supports the logic that they are all united in truth to the invisible head, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
(Unless, that is, your objective is to mock the Church by laughing off her laws assuming them to be impractical, and so, without giving it even a thought.)
I wouldn't say impractical would be the word I would choose in this sentence. Unnecessary and man made would be more appropriate. Her laws (RCC that is) are not Gods laws. If you wish to follow a man (and all Roman pontiffs are just that) then submit to them. Follow them as you would the pied-piper. Jesus is the only One a person needs to follow. And He didn't wear silky robes with a big pointy hat in a walled palace. And He didn't kiss a Koran either.

“John Paul II” was not a true but was rather a false pope, as illustrated by just such a deed.
In fact the most recent true pope was way back in A.D. 1958 with Pope Pius XII (of happy memory).
So, the One True Church is led by false leaders. That's mighty careless of God to have Cardinals elect such men. I would think if they were inspired by the Holy Spirit they would elect a holy ruler in an unanimous vote. If they were not inspired by the Holy Spirit, I wonder what spirit led them to vote for Frankie the ex-bartender/bouncer?
I’m sure that Judas brought similar naysayer comments in his day as does today’s traitors.
Besides, did not Jesus even prophesy that in the LAST DAYS a delusion of huge proportions would arise, deceiving, if those days were not shortened, even the elect?
For we read in Saint Matthew Chapter 24:
21 For there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be.
22 And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh should be saved: but for the sake of the elect, those days shall be shortened.
23 *Then if any man shall say to you: Lo, here is Christ, or there: do not believe him.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if it were possible) even the elect.
25 Behold, I have told it to you before hand.
