I don’t know about that...it’s culture, I think, idiotic as it may be.
My Wife was an executive officer at a battered women shelter some years ago. It served a multi county area here in Montana. The area covered was the size of, say, Pennsylvania and included a Indian reservation.
One woman was accepted into the shelter after being discharged from a hospital. She had been run-over by her husband when she was * on the sidewalk in-front of the Reservation Police Station* She had massive leg trauma.
She layed upon the sidewalk for an hour before she had anyone help her.
While she was bleeding, indian women she knew well walked by and said things like: ‘he would not beat you if you were a better wife.’
It is their culture.
NOT THAT IT’S RIGHT!
BTW, her husband was a policeman and ran her over with a police car. No charges.

if I were smart I would not try to make a point on this thread. Fortunately, for me, I am single and not in an intimate relationship with anyone, much less an American woman.
Here goes. Eastern and oriental culture are rigid Aristocracies dominated by men. They are chauvinistic to a fault. Women who thrive in this environment do so by becoming subservient to men as well as to older women. A mother is subservient to her son, her mother in-law, as well as her husband.
Submission is a controversial doctrine in the West. It is not at all controversial in the east where a woman who is living in submission to a strong man considers herself elevated to a position of honor in her community.
Not justifying. don’t respect it. But we can find similar attitudes here at home.
