Yes, it’s what Communists and totalitarians do. The only thing new, perhaps, is that Pope Francis pretends that the Chinese government-controlled “church” is no worse than the real Church. That is an enormous failure on his part to defend the Church.

Aren’t the Chinese better off picking on Muslims? We don’t behead people.

Communists and muslims do not believe in freedom - Christians do and so are a threat. Xu is every bit the repressive dictator that many believe Assad is - although Assad does not persecute Christians ...

"...Christians are being persecuted at rates not seen since the Cultural Revolution..."

The more Christians are persecuted, the larger and faster the church grows - has been that was since the very first Easter.

Our time will come here, too.

Could be because the church in China is growing. The rise in persecution also flies in the face of those who say today’s china is different. BAH. Making money maybe but still evil. Rich evil, poor evil. Which is worse?

China’s constitution actually gives the people the freedom of speech and religion. However, these are not like the western ideas where they are rooted in law and tradition. In China it’s more of an idea that can be expanded or taken away; it just depends on the needs of the state at that time.

Article 35 Citizens of the People’s Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession and of demonstration.

Article 36 Citizens of the People’s Republic of China enjoy freedom of religious belief.

No State organ, public organization or individual may compel citizens to believe in, or not to believe in, any religion; nor may they discriminate against citizens who believe in, or do not believe in, any religion.

The State protects normal religious activities. No one may make use of religion to engage in activities that disrupt public order, impair the health of citizens or interfere with the educational system of the State.

Religious bodies and religious affairs are not subject to any foreign domination.

Yes sounds nice, but practice is something else - as you must know some major internal actions by the government are never reported.

Communists love to sound nice on paper - a propaganda effort. But what laws are enforced or not is up to the party.

Christianity is a threat. Islam is not a not - they are just killed out of hand.

And Pope Francis is sucking up to them big time, and entering an agreement with them where they choose the Catholic bishops and the Vatican rubberstamps them. The Communists will have total control of the Church in China, and “surrender” from the Vatican.

He’s throwing the martyrs (Catholic and non-Catholic alike) under the bus.

I agree with you. But it’s not only just religion China is against. They will often make new laws and not tell anyone or bury them deep within existing laws. So as long as you’re okay with the government it’s no problem.

However, once you get onto the government’s radar then they will ask you why you didn’t comply with the new laws (that you didn’t know about or contradicts previous written laws).
