Notre Dame to Give Highest Honor to Jesuit Priest Who Supports Gay ‘Marriage,’ Women Priests

NOTRE DAME, Indiana, April 7, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – The University of Notre Dame will award its highest honor to a priest who has openly dissented from Church teaching on homosexual “marriage,” women “priests” and worthiness to receive Holy Communion.

Jesuit Father Gregory Boyle will be this year’s Laetare Medal recipient, the university announced recently.

Father Boyle is renowned for his decades-long work with incarcerated and gang-involved individuals. He will be given the award at the university’s May 21 commencement ceremony.

Father Boyle criticized the U.S. Bishops’ opposition to homosexual “marriage” in a 2010 interview during the debate over California’s Proposition 8 referendum banning same-sex “marriage.” He further described opposition to gay “marriage” as “demonizing people.”

He also stated in the interview that the Church’s teaching on women’s ordination was “shameful, “nonsense” and not “honest.” And the priest said those opposed to women’s ordination were “frightened that women will be ordained.”

He also mocked Church teaching on reception of the Eucharist for individuals married outside the Church in the broadly publicized television interview.

The Laetare Medal is not only the highest honor Notre Dame bestows, according to the university, but also the highest honor American Catholics can receive.

If Notre Dame were a Catholic University, then this would shock me.

A few years back, The Rush commented on how much money the Church gets from the U.S.A.

I can grantee that the Church is getting MUCH less money from the U.S.A. today.

And local parishes are having fiscal problems due to the Catholics (Primarily WHITE Middle class church goers) no longer donating or donating much less than in the past

I can only hope that’s true. This sort of degeneracy has to stop.

If "Protestantism" had not been birthed in the 1500's to protest the errors of the Catholic church and urge reform, surely it will would be birthed today. It will be interesting to see if the Roman Catholic Church does turn out to be the Little Horn of Daniel's prophecy.

I don’t think federal money to the Church has decreased. It exploded under Obama. The bishops rake in about $90M/year just for resetting alien invaders. Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services are 90% pro-abortion, and get 90% of their money from the U.S. government.

Years ago somebody posted here these Catholic organizations that popped up and how the Leftists/Communists infiltrated the Catholic Church through them in Chicago in the mid-60s and then on to Notre Dame and elsewhere - Georgetown?

Now these Catholic universities are as Christian as the Communist Party, or the Muslim Brotherhood.

I should be quick to state my words carry no ill gesture toward my FRiends and family who are represented by Catholicism today. There are good protestants and bad protestants, good catholics and bad catholics, good churches and bad churches. I trust God to sort us all out.

Fortunately, all the Protestant churches have stood firm against abortion, gay marriage, socialism, etc.

I'm not sure when Notre Dame stopped being a Catholic University. I suspect it was at least as far back as the start of the clinton Administration. It may have been long before that, but I wasn't paying attention.

I'm not sure how you get from a heterodox Catholic being celebrated by other heterodox Catholics to "the errors of the Catholic church". Fr. Boyle heterodoxy is wrong, and to give him an award is wrong, precisely because he rejects some of those alleged "errors".

The most important thing to Notre Dame is not Christ or his Church or truth or right doctrine ... it's whether or not the football team will make a major bowl game next year.

Priorities are not in the right place ...

Their empty pews and collection plates are why they are supporting the illegal alien inundation.

Why would he support gay “marriage”? Hmmm? Is it that he has a personal interest in the subject?

It’s common knowledge, although many devout alumni and die-hard fans refuse to believe it, that ND, like Georgetown and most other Catholic colleges and universities, are simply Catholic in name only. They remain so for the purpose of duping gullible Catholic parents who will pay the big bucks to send their kids to these once-great schools.
