Four years of the Pope "flute of Hamelin": the fulfilled prophecy of Cardinal McCarrick

"People will find in Francis a certain charism that will remind them of what the love of God is . " This prophecy was made by Cardinal McCarrick only six months after the election of the current Pope. Some gave the newly appointed pontiff four years to reform the Church, but the emeritus of Washington knew that he would not be long.

"He will walk on the stage of the world and people will follow him. They will find in him what they found in the Pied Piper," said one of the English-speaking cardinals who best knew Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

"I am very partial, I am very supportive: I believe that this is an extraordinary man, the one that God has given us as Pope. I thank the Holy Father every day for this Holy Father." In a talk he gave at Villanova University in Philadelphia in October 2013, McCarrick, archbishop emeritus of Washington, extolled the figure of Pope Bergoglio, calling him "a strong man, a wise man, but most of all a Really good man: a man who understands people, who understands good and evil, weakness and strength. " "The Lord gave us the best he could find," McCarrick said at the time. "Jorge Bergoglio is a very special person."

McCarrick and Bergoglio met when they were both appointed cardinals in the consistory of 2001. For their common interests in the questions of social justice they established a close friendship that only grew because of this proximity in the order of precedence that brought them closer each time Which were seen in Rome. For his efforts, also, to guide Cardinal Rubiano de Bogotá , who was always a little confused in the processions of the Vatican, so revealed McCarrick in his talk at Villanova.

The archbishop emeritus of Washington ended up visiting his friend Bergoglio in Buenos Aires after several years, as McCarrick himself revealed on another occasion in 2013. What surprised him most about this visit, as he recalled in a talk in the Georgetown University that same year, was that the then archbishop of Buenos Aires picked him up personally from the airport , and insisted on carrying the suitcases of his guest himself.

"We went through all the important sites, but did you tell me anything about them?" McCarrick said. "The only thing I heard him say was," Underneath this bridge is the worst favela in the city. I try to visit her often. "

The friendship between them continued even after McCarrick retired in 2006, when he went to live at the home of a community of Argentine religious in Washington. The tuning that they were developing is portrayed in a touching way in an anecdote told by the American cardinal in Villanova, episodes that goes back to the same night of the installation of new Pope:

I became very sick in Rome; Everyone thought I was dead. My heart was slowing down ... but I recovered. That night when I returned to the seminary where I was staying, I had a call from the Pope. He told me that he was not at his [installation] Mass. He took the trouble to call me. I felt very honored, and at the end of the conversation I said, "Holy Father, I suppose the Lord still has work for me." There was a pause, and he said, "Well, it may be, but on the other hand maybe the devil had not yet prepared your accommodation." Francis's great sense of humor is something we have all enjoyed during these four years, but for Cardinal McCarrick his joking tone reveals something more substantial about the transformation of the Petrine trade that Pope Bergoglio has been making up to now. "This is our Pope," said the cardinal in Villanova: "enjoy the humor, enjoy the people and understand, to an extraordinary extent. I think we will understand this more and more as time passes . " Forecasting could not have been more accurate.

McCarrick had more compliments for his friend in the talk that night in Philadelphia, all of them centered on his love for the poor - which he described as "biblical" - and for his "wise" and "cultured" character. He compared it even to the Lord, who is always idem , "always the same".

"The Lord never changes: he always loves, he always forgives, he is always benevolent, always compassionate, and so is Francisco, " emphasized the emeritus of Washington. "This is the reason why all over the world, young people say:" This is a man we can listen to because it is authentic: it says things as they are ", he continued. Legitimacy that springs from what McCarrick described as the "mantra" of the new Pope: "We must never tire of asking for forgiveness, because God never tires of forgiving us . "

But true, McCarrick's real interest lies in the cardinal's presentiments of the pontificate he had just begun. There were two of them, in particular, and both could not have been more timely, now that we looked back, four years later. Namely: that Pope Bergoglio would remind the Church of the evangelical theology of the good use of wealth , on the one hand, and that would rejuvenate Catholic anthropology as always in accordance with his special gift of understanding human nature , on the other.

"I think he will always be compassionate with the rich," the cardinal said. "Sometimes wealthy people are worried that they will bother them, but we have had conversations (about it) and they do not. It only bothers them if they do not help the poor, if they turn their back on them .... As long as people love The poor and want to help them, this Pope will be their champion and friend . "

On the other factor that would mark the new pontificate, according to McCarrick - the capacity of his friend to discover the corners of the human heart hitherto overlooked in the language of perennial theology - the cardinal explained what would be at stake in The following terms:

[Francis] has an understanding of human nature, an understanding that, although it says some things that might surprise us, the interesting thing is that if you examine what you are saying is what the Church has always said. Perhaps not what the canonists have always said, or what different theologians have always said. But the teaching of the Church of all times is the teaching of Pope Francis. Both facts - that the Pope would focus on preaching without tiring the true economy of God and the inherent dignity of all who inhabit it - that have been widely tested and contrasted and that, for this ordinary Catholic constitute, in short, The essence of these four years of the "Franciscan Revolution."

For McCarrick, however, all that would suppose - and has supposed - the pontificate of Francisco could be summed up in his capacity as Pope "pastor" , a profile that has not occupied the chair of Peter "for a long time." Pope Bergoglio would not be, predicted the cardinal, a ruler like John Paul II, for example, who walked the world by giant step, "with his enormous charisma and his enormous power." No. "Francisco will walk the stage of the world and people will follow," predicted Washington's emeritus. "They will find in him what they found in the Pied Piper of Hamelin. People will find in Francis a certain charisma that will remind them of the love of God."

"If he is two years old, he will have changed the papacy. The longer he is, the more I think we are likely to be able to say that he has changed him . " With this phrase McCarrick closed the question wheel after his talk in Villanova. What will another four years more come from the papacy Bergoglio, if God willing to give us? Here is the question, but it would not hurt to ask Cardinal McCarrick, who has succeeded so far.

Question to McCarrick, Wuer, Cupich et al: Who followed the original Pied Piper besides rats, like themselves, and innocent children?

His words were prophetic because he has and will deceive many. I fear that all will have to chose to follow him, or not, and the Roman Church will be divided again.

We created Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good to organize for a moment like this. But I think it lacks the leadership to do so now. Likewise Catholics United. Like most Spring movements, I think this one will have to be bottom up. I’ll discuss with Tara. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is the other person to consult.

"The Lord gave us the best he could find,"

One might wonder to which entity he refers as "The Lord."

The Church of What People Are Going To Do Anyway to replace the Church of what people should do. What is the point of that, except to self destruct?

Who followed the original Pied Piper besides rats, like themselves, and innocent children to their destruction.

it is my opinion that this Francis is an imposter, a poseur and The Petrus Romanus spoken about in the Prophecy of St Malachy. He will preside over the destruction of the Church, and is a true apostate. he is the principle architect of Liberation Theology and being a Jesuit (the only one ever to sere as Popo) he is a threat to the magisterium.

And yet he mostly has deceived ONLY those outside the body of Christ, and the Catholic Church as a whole appears to be rejecting him. The net result is that elements of paganism and antitheism within the Church hierarchy have exposed themselves for little of the results they sought to gain.

The False prophet will be embraced.
Francis is as nasty a guy, but the Church isn’t buying what he’s selling.

Perhaps McCarrick ought not assume Francis is joking.

I remember somebody asking JPII about him allowing for women priests and his answer was, "I couldn't change that even if I wanted to."

Francis de Chardin does not wait for someone to ask the question, he instead stimulates the conversation, by putting a false hope into itchy ears.

The level of irresponsibility on Frankie's part is stunning.

McCarrick was also the one that hid the letter from Cd. Ratzinger on “No Communion for pro-abort politicians” from the other American bishops.
