The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.(Zechariah 12:1-3)

The Hebrew Prophets looked out from their vantage point, at events in the future of God’s dealings. The Holy Spirit would reveal to them one signal event after another, often in great detail, in a similar way as when a man looks out at a mountain range and sees the mountain peaks of a range miles away. It can look like they are on peak righ next to another, which is next to another peak.

But when the one draws nearer they realize that the two peaks which looked like they were virtually on top of one another, may be in fact separated by miles!

The gap between the events of Zechariah 9-11 and Zechariah 12-14 is nearly two thousand years wide.

The nation which repudiated its King, and prized the true Shepherd at a paltry thirty pieces of silver, then descended into a long night of exile, slavery, scattering among the Nations of the world, persecution, abuse, wandering, a secession of false Messiahs, pograms, reproach and eventually holocaust, but never absolute annihilation.

Moses predicted all of this and put into a song, which he taught the nation to sing, as recorded in Deuteronomy 32,

They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation… I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:(Deuteronomy 32:22-28)

By the time Zechariah 12 occurs, two thousand years have come and gone, and the nation of Israel has miraculously come back to the land, and is inhabiting Jerusalem, and furthermore Israel is of such import, the whole world is in a state of indignation at her.

Particularly there is a controversy over the status of Jerusalem.

To those who derive hope and sustenance from the Judeo-Christian scriptures, Jerusalem is the most important city on earth. It is the only city of which the God of the Bible has proclaimed that he put his name there. In the Psalms it is called, “the city of our God and the Mountain of His holiness” as well as “The city of the Great King ” (Psalm 48).

Jesus quoted that verse in the sermon on the mount when He said,

But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.(Matthew 5:34-35).

The city of Jerusalem is mentioned in the Bible more than eight hundred times and of you include other names for it, (Zion,Ariel, The Daughter of Zion), more than a thousand times the Bible refers to it.

Jerusalem is never mentioned by nam in the Quran, yet the Muslims claim that Jerusalem is their third holiest site, and that they should be in control of the temple mount.

There is one scripture in the Quran which Muslims now say, refers to the city of Jerusalem and by which they make their claim, that Jerusalem belongs to them and has no connection to the Jewish state. The passage is called “the Izra” and it refers to the time Mohammed supposedly went upon a winged horse(named ‘Barak’ ) to “Al Aqsa”, the farthest places. Now Muslim scholars are claiming from that one passage, that “Al Aqsa” is Jerusalem, thus Muslims have an indisputable claim to the city.

We have all seen the heartrending scenes from the Six Day War of 1967, when Israeli paratroopers retook the ancient city, and wept openly at the site of the ‘wailing wall’.

But Moshe Dayan immediately turned the holiest site in all of Judaism back to the Jordanian Waqf, a Muslim custodial group, which has the say on who can go the temple mount, what they can and cannot do there, and how long they can stay there. Currently only Muslim prayer is allowed there, and frequently Muslim mobs stone Jewish worshippers at the wailing wall below the mountain.

I often pondered why Dayan didn’t just take the Holiest site in all of Judaism, and turn it over to the Jews, rather than let Muslims control it. I have no idea from an earthly perspective but I do believe Jesus himself gives us the answer as to why this indignity is put upon the long suffering Jews, even to this day, when he warned them of the long ,dark future of the apostate nation,

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.(Luke 21:24)

Everyone on earth has a plan for Jerusalem; The Pope wants to make it into an international city, the U.N. has divided it into two separate cities, East and West Jerusalem, Muslims claim it as their own city, and Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli Government claims it as the indivisible capitol of Israel forever!

A young American citizen who happens to be Jewish, applied for a US passport. On the line which requests city and country of Birth, he marked “Jerusalem,Israel”. He was rejected on the grounds, that tot the US passport office, Jerusalem isn’t in Israel!, He did what any red blooded American would do, he sued, and the court found against him, “You can’t say Jerusalem is in Israel”. He appealed all the way to the US Supreme court, which agreed to hear the case.

(Think about , that, of all of the hundreds of thousands of cases, most of which they deem not significant enough for their time, why did they see this as so important?)

The US supreme court heard the case and decided against the boy, that One cannot claim that Jerusalem is in Israel!

When President Barak Hussein Obama went to Cairo Egypt, at Al Azhar university, (The Harvard,Yale and Cambridge of Sunni terrorism, giving the Jihad its theological and philosophical underpinnings), to give an address to the entire Muslim world, He only quoted on passage from the Quran. Which one did He quote? The Izra!

Let your mind wrap around that…the ‘leader of the free world’ cited the one dubious passage of the Quran which legitimizes the claims of one out of seven people in the world, that Jerusalem is their city and has no connection to the JEWS.

A terrible conflict is brewing, but not between Jews and Moslems or Jews and Gentiles…this is a conflict between the “Kings of the Earth and the Lord and HIS Christ!”

For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.(Isaiah 34:8-10)
