Would Jesus Scold Trump on Refugees? Leftist commentators manipulate scripture
American Thinker ^ | 02/24/2017 | Peter Heck

Who would have thought that just a month into the Trump presidency and the progressive left would be demanding our society ask itself what Jesus would do about foreign refugees? Apparently on some issues, that wall between church and state they’re always harping about is almost as porous as our southern border.

But before we get caught up in appropriating Jesus to our side of a political issue, I think it is important to be wary of those who prefer selective application of Biblical principle when it comes to the great moral issues of our day. If God’s word should inform our people how we should think and act relative to the plight of the immigrant or refugee (it should), it should also inform our people how we should think and act relative to race relations, abortion, pornography, and sexuality.

Those who demand Scriptural fidelity to one, but not another, are likely far more interested in twisting and manipulating the Bible to promote personal political agendas than they are understanding and properly applying Biblical values.

For instance, notice the glaring paradox that unfolds when progressive faith leaders on the left like Al Sharpton remind everyone that, “Jesus was a refugee.” Obviously, they are referencing the escape of Mary and Joseph to Egypt in the years shortly after the birth of Jesus. Making their case for an open-door refugee policy where the United States government places no restrictions on access to the country and its resources from those fleeing persecution in foreign lands, these progressives correctly note that Mary and Joseph sought refuge in a foreign country to escape the mass infanticide decree of King Herod.

Yes, utterly falsely and mendaciously. There was no giant influx of economic refugees from Judaea to Egypt in those days at all. And once Herod was dead, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus right back to Judaea and their home in Nazareth.

In the OT, the refugees had to obey the law.

In the NT, the Christians were to obey the law (think Roman persecution).

Jesus didn’t deal w/the government. The only thing said was “render unto caesar”.

And when the government came to deal with Jesus, he let them kill him.

Lefties do not know the Bible and yet try to tell Christians and Jews how to live by it. They think that Holy Communion is a snack break.

Were there any immigration laws between Egypt and Judea back then? Any visas needed?

Everything was under the Roman Empire.

Reminds me of the Schengen Area in the European Union. Although there aren’t any mad kings looking to kill all the firstborn males in any of the member states. (Post-birth abortions?)

The hypocrisy of the Left: They are offended by Jesus and Christianity. Any mention of Jesus is taboo unless they are swearing or they are using His name or His words as a tool to further their agenda.

Not entirely true. Gumints over the interval have not wished that what Jesus said about gummint be “stressed” and hence it is not. What we DO know he said was, “If you had the faith of a grain of mustard...”. What mountain was he talking about? The Herodian. What he was saying was if you had the least amount of faith you would not abide or need human gummint. Kings don’t want to hear that and they sure as hell don’t want us folks hearing it.

Jesus would have said "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs."

Libtards don’t believe the Bible and don’t study it so they cannot reference it appropriately. I love when libtards try to reference the Good Samaritan in regard to immigration. They don’t realize the Samaritan is the foreigner...

They have been doing that for a long time. Even Article 12 of the 1936 USSR constitution contains a distorted version of 2 Thessalonians 3:10.
In the USSR, work is a duty and a matter of honor for every able-bodied citizen, in accordance with the principle: “He who does not work, neither shall he eat.”
That was dropped out of the 1977 constitution.

Liberals are not smart enough to realize that the responsibilities and authorities laid upon sovereign states are not the same as those laid upon individuals.

The bible tells us to welcome foreigners. That's a responsibility for an individual.

That does not apply to sovereign states, making decisions about who should and should not enter. That's an entirely separate matter, and it is within a sovereign state's authority to limit immigration. Otherwise, I doubt God would've asked the Jews to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem in Nehemiah.

Yes, in fact, in the beginning of the book of kings god warns of giving men power over other men. I see this and your reference as a commentary on the existence of government, as opposed to a commentary on a particular policy of the government.

Something "reverend" Al must have missed.

Shane Claiborne demands that the President live by the sermon on the mount.
I wonder what his views of Keith Ellison are, worshipping a god other than the one true God.

Or Elizabeth Fauxahontas Warren bearing false witness.

Or...

Or...

Or...

Or...
