February 23, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) Kazakhstan Bishop Athanasius Schneider says bishops who order their priests to give Holy Communion to divorced and remarried Catholics are committing a grave abuse of his power.
Hes ordering (the priest) to sin and when a bishop even or a Pope commands me to sin I have to refuse, Bishop Schneider explained in a recent interview with Rorate Caeli and Adelante la Fe. I have to obey God and therefore in this case the priest has to say to the bishop, Your Excellency you order me to commit a sin and I cannot do this, I have to obey God and I cannot obey you.'
He has to resist even to the extent that he will lose his office, added Bishop Schneider. Better to lose all but not to commit sin against the commandment of God.
The Archbishop of Malta has told seminarians that the seminary gate is open -- meaning they are free to leave -- if they do not agree with the bishops on allowing communion for remarried divorcees.
In Colombia a priest was suspended from his priestly ministry for insisting in a homily that he would not give Holy Communion to adulterers. In suspending Fr. Uribe Medina, Bishop Rigoberto Corredor Bermúdez accused the priest of publicly and privately express[ing] his rejection of the doctrinal and pastoral teachings of his Holiness Pope Francis, especially with regards to marriage and the Eucharist. Fr. Medina has since been reinstated.
Should they wear “A” on their forehead, too?? The church is not a judge. If these people feel they can go to communion, so what. You condemn them for a marriage that didn’t work?? AND condemn them to a sexless future marriage besides. The church is ridiculous on this point.
Not at all. Any culpability that one has can be absolved in Confession.
AND condemn them to a sexless future marriage besides. The church is ridiculous on this point.
In addition to the well-known statement by Jesus, I refer you to Saint Paul:
To the married, however, I give this instruction (not I, but the Lord): A wife should not separate from her husbandand if she does separate she must either remain single or become reconciled to her husbandand a husband should not divorce his wife. (1 Cor. 7:10-11)Your dispute is not merely with the Church but with God's revelation.
What about widows/widowers?
Believe what you wish.
The Church has always taught (judged) that the marriage bond ends at death. No issue there.
Believe what you wish.
We as Catholics don't have the luxury to "believe what we wish" on these matters.
I'm sorry that you "disagree" with St. Paul or perceive misogyny in his writings. However, the Word you dispute is Sacred Scripture and the ones that you have disagreement with are the Holy Spirit who inspired its writing and the Church that has the authority to interpret it.
Sacajaweau, your comments are so erroneous, it would take a whole bespoke thread to set them straight. Trust me, it’s true.
Wisely refrain from judgments about things on which you’re so poorly informed.
So you are Ok with mortal sin and want the Catholic Church to condone that?
Why?
There is no hope for salvation for adulterers?
"Until death do us part." Widows and widowers are free to marry.
All sins can be forgiven but there must be true contrition and a firm resolution to sin no more. An adulterer can be forgiven but he must give up his adultery.
If that is the case, then what can we say about a Pope who orders Bishops to order priests to give Holy Communion to divorced and remarried Catholics?
Yes, I know......Francis hasn't actually "ordered" them. It's all in a footnote and he's winking at them.
All thanks to our merciful Lord.
