Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

Psalm 119

Psalm 119[a]

‎א Aleph

1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.

2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—

3 they do no wrong
    but follow his ways.

4 You have laid down precepts
that are to be fully obeyed.

5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
    in obeying your decrees!

6 Then I would not be put to shame
when I consider all your commands.

7 I will praise you with an upright heart
as I learn your righteous laws.

8 I will obey your decrees;
    do not utterly forsake me.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

1. Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the LORD!

2. Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!

3. They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.

4. You have commanded us
To keep Your precepts diligently.

5. Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!

6. Then I would not be ashamed,
When I look into all Your commandments.

7. I will praise You with uprightness of heart,
When I learn Your righteous judgments.

8. I will keep Your statutes;
Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today we start the Wonderful and Ingenious Psalm 119. It is an Acrostic, with 22 Chapters of 8 lines apiece. Every line in the chapter begins with the SAME Hebrew Letter, which would be interesting enough, but also the Psalm has a seamless theme running through it: the Love Of The Lord and His Law (also called His "Precepts" or "Statutes"). Not only THAT, the lines in each chapter of the Psalm bear a relationship to the actual LETTER that begins each line. Each letter in the Hebrew Aleph-Bet has a plethora of meanings, and even the SHAPE of the letter comes into play. So, instead of a "Word Study", this Psalm gives us the shades of meaning at the very core of the Language. Truly an Inspired Work!

Psalm 119 starts with a set of couplets that all begin with the Letter "Aleph", which corresponds to the English Vowel "A". It also symbolizes the Number ONE in Hebrew Script. It is the BEGINNING in "The Beginning and the End". The two letters Aleph and Tav when placed next to each other in script becomes the "Beginning and the End", The Alpha and the Omega (Greek)" or the "A to Z" in English. The "Aleph-Tav" appears in the first line of the Torah (Genesis 1:1) and in the Last Chapter of the Revelation (I am the Alpha and The Omega".) My own acrostic poem is NOT a translation, but a prayer inspired by Psalm 119 Aleph, just to be challenged to compose a prayer that stays in this format. Every line in the original starts with Aleph, and every line in my poem begins with "A". (It wasn't easy! LOL!)

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

To: left that other site; amorphous
the Psalm has a seamless theme running through it: the Love Of The Lord and His Law (also called His "Precepts" or "Statutes").

And..

The "Aleph-Tav" appears in the first line of the Torah (Genesis 1:1) and in the Last Chapter of the Revelation (I am the Alpha and The Omega".)

This really ties in with the theme of the previous Psalm about His loving-kindness being forever: "open to me" the gates of righteousness, that *this* is the gate of the Lord, and that the stone [precept, embodied in the son of God] the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. Seems like mixed metaphors but not really, because

The word and description of the cornerstone doesn't not specify if it is the chief cornerstone that is the first stone laid in the construction/dedication of a building, or the capstone - the last stone placed as its crown.

It (the stone, the precept) is both the first and the last, the beginning and the end. It/He is the sum of all knowledge as it were, reduced in an allegory to two letters.

The concept of "the first and last" is emphasized in both Hebrew and the Greek with the letters (the alef-tav you mentioned is an Hebrew particle, a grammatical pointer to a direct i.e. definitive object). *The* heavens and *the* earth are thus each introduced by the grammatical particle "et" (את). From "A to Z" as the sum of knowledge/information is of course an English language idiom, but the Hebrew and Greek letters also have numeric values.

alef - 1
tav - 400
alpha - 1
omega - 800

Total: 1202

This is also the sum of the first three words of the Torah (בראשית ברא אלהים), right before the alef-tav particle. I don't know all the Greek gematrias by sight, so it will take me a bit to see is there is something going in in Rev 22:21.

1202 is the gematria of

  העץ אשר צויתיך

"the tree of which I commanded you" (Gen 3:11, 3:17); that is, the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

The precept that the builders [of human establishments] refuse is the Golden Rule.

Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Interesting that in Gen 3:3, the woman describes the tree as "the tree that is in the midst of the garden" (העץ אשר בתוך־הגן), which = 1152. 50 short of 1202, the "sum" of all knowledge A to Z - alef to tav and alpha to omega. 50... there's a lot going on with that number, such as the 50 day counting of the omer until the giving of the Law on Shavuot. Fifty gates of understanding, and so on..

kol (כל) = all = 50
The full spelling is kaf (כף) lamed (למד), which = 174, same as the Greek word for book (βιβλίον).

It shows up in the context of all being all: no adding, no subtracting:

Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

the Psalm has a seamless theme running through it: the Love Of The Lord and His Law

Come to think of it, the English alphabet has 26 letters. Therefore, "A to Z " is... YHVH (יהוה) = 26

And that the difference between kol (כל all, 50) and its full spelling which is also Biblion (βιβλίον book, 174) is 124, which is Eden (עדן). :)

It's not any work at all if it is love.
