In a recent meeting with journalists, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco of Genoa said that populism is not the answer to the problems facing Europe.

The prelate is president of the Italian Episcopal Conference and the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences.

Populism “is not an answer to the problems and challenges of our time,” he said. “It takes advantage of and feeds on discontent, but cannot control it. Instead, we need a new synthesis, a global vision to look to the future with hope.”

Cardinal Bagnasco: visit to Brussels. “Populism does not solve problems, it feeds on them. A new global vision is needed” (SIR)

It sure helps prevent new ones though.

It’s more of Personal Freedom which does solve the problems of individuals, but maybe not so much those of the Catholic Church.

What is "Populism" according to the gentleman?

Can he define it or is it just a way of saying that the concerns of ordinary people should be ignored in favor of "Big Brother Knows Best"?

Torah actualizes a relationship with G-d that enables a man or a nation to rise out of the mire of ignorance and spiritual darkness. It gives human beings the Truth of what is. The Truth about the origin of the Universe and it’s form. And, when it is embraced by a people, a nation, that nation is exalted and blessed. No Pope is needed. There will be global unity one day soon, when Messiah reigns from undivided Jerusalem. Until then the message of the kingdom must go forth to all nations to draw them to G-d.

These evil socialists don’t realize that welfare only embeds dependency (and vice). Or perhaps, they do and they just want to make slaves out of the masses. These European countries promote vice 24/7 to their children and hyper-sexualize them with “sex boxes” at age 3 so their concepts of male and female and family are totally warped and evil for life. They embed evil perceptions of reproduction and “rights” which exclude God, the ONLY source of Natural Rights. No flourishing of the Natural family means the DEATH of culture as we see happening in Europe today. Destruction of all traditions, all history, and, soon, their entire ethnic group will be annihilated. “Reason” was removed from “education” as irrational dehumanizing Marxism and Socialism, where boys are girls, was inserted in their curricula by 1950s.

Virtue is essential for freedom and all top-down systems will be corrupt and destroy individualism and Natural Rights for perversions (vice). Tyranny of the masses or by the elites is always the same-—destruction of all “Free Will” and Indivdual NATURAL “Rights” that only come from God, and never the state.

Populism can result is tyranny also—as can Capitalism, if the people have no virtue formation. Swedish schools have been destroying virtue formation in their children forever—to normalize sodomy and dysfuctional, irrational behaviors which will destroy virtue in children.

Welfare/Socialism destroys virtue always as does promotion of vice. It embeds dependency and “group-think” which is non-think.

A true Justice System promotes only “just” laws which promote “public virtue” as Montesquieu and Christians use to know-—particularly the Catholic Church since they perfected Natural Law Theory (the philosophy of Locke which created our Justice system and Constitution.

Once again proving liberalism is most definitely a mental disease.

The Catholic Hierarchy should continue to dabble in politics. The Church is on weak and shifting sand as the leadership abandons Spiritual leadership for a Globalist agenda.

For some Godliness is found in ornate buildings, structured governance and the disciplined performance of a scripted liturgy instead of the idea of a free Spirit. Populism is a selfish act to those who think this way because it doesn’t require one to submit to anything and therefore is considered egotistical. I’m never surprised at the socialist, big government leanings of many Catholics, they don’t thinks things can “get done” any way else, but I think that belief stems more from a psychological neediness on their part than any need on the part of those they claim to exist for.
