How can I get this image to post on SCL?

The way I did it here on this FR post is

- right click over the picture,
- choose "Copy image address"
- post (image adress is http://www.freerepublic.com/images/MerryChristmas.gif)
- add "< img src =" to the beginning of the address and ">" to the end.

I got the Merry Christmas image above to appear as is on the "Add New Post" on WordPress, but when I hit "Publish", the image came out on SCL looking like this:
