I contend that the overall picture indicates a vast difference between man and animal, a difference not merely in degree but in kind.

i understand the theology. but the more time I spend with dogs, cats, and horses... the more I come to the realization that they are at least as intelligent and soulful as humans, and more so in some ways

Slightly off topic but it amazes me some acquaintances actually believe Great White sharks have feelings and won’t bite if you communicate. This a conversation in my church parking lot a couple months ago. Their brains are the size of a 5.56.

The difference between humans and other animal species is that humans have the ability to make tools like primates, but do it at a vastly higher level than gorillas and chimpanzees. I think cetaceans like dolphins and the closely related killer whale have the brain capacity, but not the tool making ability to really advance themselves.

I remember Jacques Cousteau saying yes, dolphins are very smart but they do not possess human intelligence - otherwise they would jump over the cork line of the tuna nets rather than drowning.

In Genesis, when God breathed into Adam....”man became a speaking spirit.” No matter how desperately these quacks attempt to lower the human race, and elevate the evolution crock, they will continue to fail. Because only mankind have and eternal spirit.

She does not appreciate great music.. I could put on music that brings me to tears while she just lies there unmoved.

Well, YOUR cat, maybe. Mine loves beautifully harmonic music. She also senses when humans are in prayer and comes over to sit with us.

They don;t say what a dolphin is in this article. I fish for what some say are dolphins. We call them Mahi-mahia. The Flipper dolphins are not. The commercial tuna boats I know of, DO catch the mahi-Mahi and include them in their catch. PETA and other liberal groups say “They are catching dolphin!!” which is not wrong, BUT it IS. I guess it’s like calling tuna fish in a can, albacore. Both taste good, fresh, but a tuna is not an albacore. Sorta like a rabbit and a woodchuck. Same family, but different. (I’d eat’em both.)

Good post, but why are humans different? Because we have spiritual (and thus immortal) souls which have the power of abstraction, can deal with abstract concepts, and do so all the time with our symbolic languages, so that we don’t even notice it. Animals have material (therefore mortal) souls which can only deal with concrete material objects (material in the general sense, including anything the physical sciences can measure, such as electromagnetic radiation.) This distinction is in the Creed: I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible (or seen and unseen etc., depending on the translation.) Visible vs. invisible; material vs. spiritual; temporal vs. eternal; mortal vs. immortal...
